I'm very fine with this [2015].

BENVENUTO ANGELO!!

He should be an alternative to Cambiasso and nothing else. Which is fine, since I don't think Cambiasso is as hungry as he used to be. Palombo comes from Serie B, to a CL-team. If he's not hungry, then fuck knows, who is.

Guess his salary is around 1m€ or something, since we are possibly ready to give him 3-year deal if we redeem him.

My major concern was mainly due to his age. I figured: Isn't he a bit old and don't have many years left in him?

Then I realised, I'm only one year younger, and that ruined my evening.

His salary BETTER BE less than 1.5mil (I doubt but we'll see). Cause the rumor is 2.5mil/4 years at PSG for Motta. Which means, we could've easily matched that by giving 2.5mil/3 years.

Interesting to see if we whored ourselves for 10mil.

I'm pretty sure it's close to 1m€, probably even less. He must have earned under 1m€ for SURE at Samp. You don't pay million per year salaries in Serie B, specially as it was Samp. I don't believe we've offered Palombo even 1,5m€ per year.

I don't want people to go mad around here, but:

However, Samp have admitted in recent times that they are willing to listen to offers for the former Fiorentina player. His €1.5m a season salary is considered as too high for a Serie B club.

Don't worry, he will eat dirt for us if necessary.

CafeCordoba

We took him on loan only.

My reasoning is that IF we decide to redeem him, is that his salary is low enough (and he's good enough for us, of course).

We are selling for the FFP.

Why not? Cheap Italian NT player that also played in the UCL :D he's just 1 year older than Motta but a lot stronger & healthier record. Or would you perhaps prefer to prolongue Motta's contract in 2013 [when he will be 30, too]?

NeonBlade

Poli and Palombo linking back up together again. Sadly we have missed Palombos best years, he peaked two years ago, but still a knowledgeable strong, very strong player in the middle.

Under Del Neri, both players were good enough to get Sampa to 4th. After Del Neri left, and Di Carlo came in and preferred Tissone to Poli, they got relegated. All we need to do is sign Cassano and its a Genova family again with Pazzini.

Of course I would be comfortable with that.

As I said in another thread. People need to abandon this idea about salaries. Our problems are not because of high salaries in general. Our problem is paying high salaries and getting little/no return. You cannot avoid paying for quality. The notion that you can get quality for cheap is patently false. It is like the old saying "you get what you pay for". If a player is truly quality, you may be able to escape paying them high salaries for a year or two at most. Eventually, YOU MUST PAY.

2.5 mil is nothing. For a quality midfielder? 2.5mil until 33? Nothing. 2.5mil is what we're paying jonathan and mariga combined, 2 players that have CONTRIBUTE ZERO, which basically means money down the toilet. Motta could be injured in 50% of the games and his contribution in the other 50% will still be greater than most of our midfielders.

If we're going to bitch about 2.5mil, then it's best we just accept we're going to be competing at lazio/udinese level.

Palombo is a good midfielder. Certainly not at motta's level though.

Delighted with this move, Palombo is a player I've admired for a long time, great player to have alongside Cuchu in the heart of our midfield, adds some steel and grit while also being an underrated 2 way midfielder.

I'm also very confident he'll fit right into the locker room, he's a natural leader, very well respected, passionate and loyal (who can forget when he broke down after Samp got relegated). Basically this is a transfer which should of happened a lot sooner for us.

Ah almost man, I always liked Samp.. hope they can stay in B this season and get to A after that, good fans.. and that black 'n blue of thiers also makes it up :)

Now that we're doing business with them maybe loan them some young players that won't get much playing time in our team, and might help them get back to A..

Back on topic - Welcome Angelo.... can't talk about anything professional about him cause I haven't seen him playing in a long while..

It's not like Palombo was a stand out player with awesome dribbling skills which you would remember. is that all we go for, goals and dribbling skills :palm: he's a stand out because he's one of the most consistent performers in serie a, as someone already said, he's samps JZ4. Should've left Samp years ago for better opportunities. Still, very excited to have him. Won't even miss Motta with this signing. Perfect replacement. he'll sit right there in front of the defence, spraying passes, controlling the tempo of the match. unfortunately he's slow as shit so he'll get run the fuck over in UCL. But in serie A :slick:

Really? I thought he won a bunch of balls in the midfield for us. Also looked very calm on the ball which should be no surprise because of his experience. There were a couple times where the ball was flying around like crazy and when the ball landed at his feet he seemed to calm everything down and help build the attack.

The long ball was obviously his best moment, but to say you didn't notice him is quite awkward...

02 Feb 12, 16:12
I was quite impressed by him, his long pass was class and he won many balls. We have to keep in mind that he had nearly no time to train with the team and was thrown into a match like this. I think he and Poli will forget us about Motta really fast.

Now we have to wait until he gets used to the team and how he is in a match under normal circumstances.

Come on guys! I know that many people do not watch the other Serie A games often, but Palombo is one of the top 10 experienced midfielders in Italy of the last decad. period.

By the time he start coordinate with Cambiasso, our midfield will be unbelievably unbreakable. That`s not a Motta`s replacment. that`s an UPGRADE. with all respect to Motta. Palombo is like a Motta+Cambiasso combined. he can read plays and interupt the attacks, And he has amazing vision in midfield and superb passing abilities. And unlike Motta, he is a fighter, not lazy ass.

I have seen quite few Samp games from last few seasons and I believe I have seen enough of Palombo in Serie A to really know how he plays. He is not gold standard but a useful midfielder and can bring ball forward. He used to be one of nightmares against us. i haven't seen much of Guarin, the only time I saw him was the EL final and if he played the way he played in EL final, he definitely has skills that we needed the most.

I never like Palombo bcs he can be a troublemaker whenever we play Samp. The same feeling against Miccoli.

I have absolutely nothing against Palombo. I wasn't being critical of him in my last post. Just saying what I saw and the fact that I don't fancy the idea of him and Cuchu as our starting midfielders. Then again, I've never been a fan of 2 DM's on the pitch at the same time. I think 1 is all you need in this day in age but this probably won't happen while Ranieri is in charge. In my ideal world, Palombo should be the replacement for Cuchu so he doesn't have to play every single game anymore.

The only way I accept 2 DM's is when we have the players to play 4-2-3-1. But as vito touched on, unfortunately we don't.

I have absolutely nothing against Palombo. I wasn't being critical of him in my last post. Just saying what I saw and the fact that I don't fancy the idea of him and Cuchu as our starting midfielders. Then again, I've never been a fan of 2 DM's on the pitch at the same time. i seriously believe we could pull it off.. i mean its worth a shot given that everything inter has formed into has been shit on or barely gotten by (palermo and lecce aside)
it just means taking a risk.
goal:ceasar
defense:maicon, rano, smauel, naga
D mids: zanetti, cambiasso
A mids:ricky, sneijder, forlan
strickers:milito, (pazzo against lesser teams)

have ricky and forlan play like a seasaw around sneijder and zanetti or chuchu as the back or the triangle. plus runs by naga and maicon would complete our attack.
i know there are faults but its close to the 4411 we play with sneijder. but more offensive.

That would be great for one match...but what happens when Forlan gets injured in that match??

Our best formation for me should be the tree 4-3-2-1. 4312 leaks goals, 4231 cannot happen thanks to our management and 442 I'm tired of.

And 4-3-2-1 will score 1 goal in 10 matches :P

I disagree Milan won quite a bit with that formation however their front were Kaka, Seedorf and Shevchenko so there's a difference.

LOL at least you corrected yourself there. If we had a player of the same quality as Kaka in his prime, then any formation would work :P

We could give 4-3-2-1 a try though, wouldn't hurt considering out attacking ability in the 4-4-2 is far from impressive.

Well it is just inconsistent. We have matches like Lecce, Parma and Palermo where we score 4 and 5 goals in a 4-4-2 or 4-3-1-2 and then we have matches like Lecce and Roma where we fail to score any goals...And I feel it is like this more because of our players and strategy than formation.

I think the advantage of having 2 advanced midfielders (referring to Christmas tree) will make us more compact while at the same time allows Sneijder and Alvarez to create for the lone striker, I think it gives us more balance than the 4-3-1-2 as Alvarez does track back and it gives Sneijder a role in the team. In the first 45 minutes we did play with something similar 3-4-2-1 and we did have an amazing first half.

Xmas tree seems like the best formation for us at the moment considering that types of player that we have in our squad. Why play a formation that use a winger when we don't even have a proper winger?

Exactly ! Our usual 4312 which has guaranteed us results in Serie A on so many occasions in the last 6 years is leaking goals now( Maybe with Guarin in midfield, Forlan in attack, it might be different ). 4-4-2 makes Sneijder a toy to play with. We can't do this to our best player in such desperate times.

Place Cambiasso in front of defense and that formation does not look half bad.

Better at holding the ball and general distribution. Could be our go-to guy in midfield, holding the ball and keeping possession while our other players move into space. would like to see him and Poli in midfield together. they worked well together in Samp.

:okay: 'could be our go-to guy in midfield' not sure if serious?

Dude's old and slow. He does not have the ability to cut in top-flight football any more, like deteriorating Cuchu but worse. Did you see how he played yesterday? And not just that game, he's sucked in every appearance so far..

He can go back to Samp. Glad he was only brought in on loan. In theory he'd make a decent squad player, but he's 30 years old and has already declined considerably. His wages are undoubtedly higher than the likes of Mariga, and at least Mariga shouldn't get any worse in the near future. Plus, we have plenty of CM's on the books already.

Dude is 30, has 2.5m wages, played for a middle table team in Serie B, how the hell did ya think that he will be any good :yao:

Palombo is a solid midfielder, just because he didn't work out here does not take that away from him...you think you are smarter than everyone here, when if fact you truly sound ignorant when you say things like this.

Ofcourse the argument of 'he played for a middle table team in Serie B' doesn't make sense at all, as there were several Serie A clubs who wanted him.

My thoughts as well, I feel he came to us 2-3 years too late. He really hasn't been the same player since Samp got relegated, I remember he was bawling his eyes out that day and I'm sure it took a lot out of him both physically and emotionally. I don't know why the hell we have taken him on the Indo tour though, it's all but a given we won't sign him.

some reports say he will not be bought, some say nobody knows yet.

latest news: Stankovic could leave so Palombo could be an option!

Palombo's permanent agreed transfer fee is 4m Euro. Sampdoria didn't promote from Serie B [yet], so I believe he would love to stay. But I don't think we will offer him a decent backup's wage and keep him to replace Stankovic, we have the younger ones...

I see we can mature duncan, and if Mirage come then i see him instead of Deki as sub player and younger ( i know he does have ACL injury but that wont stop having him as back up as his Payment will be around 1 mill max )
