BERNI: "INTER HAVE ALWAYS BEEN MY DREAM"

Nerazzurri youth team product tells Inter Channel: "What a feeling watching Ronaldo train"

APPIANO GENTILE - Appearing on InterNOS, Tommaso Berni spoke live to Inter Channel as he answered the viewers' questions. "If I hadn't become a footballer, I'd have travelled a lot, that's for sure.

"You need to let yourself go when it comes it comes to languages and not be afraid to make mistakes. Portuguese is difficult." He then spoke about his spell abroad: "Football is a lot of fun in England and that's how it should always be." Then coming back to Inter: "I train to make the first team. The coach picks the side and I accept his selection with a smile. I like being in the group and being a team player. It doesn't matter whether I play or someone else does, the desire is still the same. Mine was the first contract dropped off by Piero Ausilio in 1998 if I'm not mistaken. It was great coming back here, I couldn't believe it. It was an emotional moment when I signed. If I'm honest, it was a dream to come back.

"When I was at the academy, I saw Ronaldo train. It was amazing, I was very yong and I remember it well: it was brilliant, what a player!"

Berni then came back once again to his return to Inter: "It was amazing because I'm always smiling. I always come to work with a real hunger to train. I knew Carrizo and Handanovic and it's fun training with them. When I was a kid, I actually played up front."

On the subject of front men, he gave his thoughts on Shaqiri: "Great players are always welcome." Then goalkeepers of course: "Handanovic is such a well-rounded goalkeeper, great in all departments. It would be great if Neuer could win the Ballon d'Or for what he achieved with Germany. It would be an award for the whole goalkeepers' union.

"I've got a great relationship with all my team-mates. I'm not sure whether Kovacic has learned Italian well thanks to me but we do room together so...

"I'm a big music lover, now vinyls are back in fashion and I'm looking for records to add to my collection. My passion for music comes from my older brothers."

You just answered your own question. You would preferably want a youth player to get a lot of playing time.

Players like Berni are ideal for this spot.

We signed him last year because we needed locally grown players for the uefa cup. Since we wont be playing in europe this season we could have well used a youngster in this position.
Really pointless, why sign a youngster for a position that doesn't allow them any development opportunity?

Young players who would be at the level of an Inter 3rd choice GK are farmed out to the lower leagues for a reason. To give them match experience and hopefully rise about the level of a 3rd choice GK.

Players like Berni are made for this position. Those who are too old to develop to a higher level than they are already at, have some experience to bank on, whose alternative is to being 3rd choice at a big club is to be first choice in Serie C, where even there they might get deposed by a youngster on loan, thanks to the common agreements with the big clubs and provincials that they must play guys who are supplied to them on loan.

If you really wanted an alternative to Berni, then it's really just more of the same. Keepers in their mid 30s. They're the only ones that would willingly take such a position. And probably the prime candidate for a Berni replacement would be Luca Anania. I remember him being okay for Pro Patria a few years back. He came from our academy. Don't know where he plays just now. But the alternative to Berni is another player with similar history.

Anyway, regardless of all this, there is a chance Berni might drop to 4th choice anyway, if Vid Belec doesn't get sent away on loan once again.

BabyPhat
04 Jun 15, 22:44
Thats my point. If Belec doesnt get a good loan offer. Why tie down Berni in a contract, regardless of how cheap it is, when there is a possibility of having a primavera player who doesnt have any other options be 3rd. Plus as i said, we are not playing in Europe, so its not as if Bernis status as a former youth player is really of any use.

J..
04 Jun 15, 22:48
Well if we can't get Belec out on a loan then why should we keep him? I rather want a proven goalkeeper like Berni as a third choice.

So apparently he isn't club trained :chan:

Did some research after vito's post in the EL thread and it looks like he was here for three seasons between the age of 15-21 but he must have missed out on being club trained by a couple of weeks at most. With this in mind I don't see why we replaced Castellazzi with him or why he's even at the club.

He was registered for us 3 seasons in a row starting when he was 15 years old, so that means he should be club-trained.

Nah because you don't need 4 AT and 4 CT, you just need 8 total and at least 4 must be CT. So we could list 5 CT and 3 AT. Could have been just a typo by Inter?

actually, i meant the city of milan, i was referring to antonio donnarumma.

berni's contract should be in the regione of 200 k (or so i've herard), while antonio donnarumma is going to earn 1 mln euros per year.

But they fucked it up big time.

Berni is living the dream.

Getting paid lots of money to hang out with football players of the team he loves, occasionally gets to be underneath a goalpost while they take shots at him for like 1-2 hours a day, no one has any expectations from him other than being on time and he gets the best free seats at Inter games plus free tickets for his friends.

Only on the team because we need former youth players instead of just giving the youth player a shot on the team

Why would you waste a youth player by making them your third keeper?

Tommaso Berni remains a vital presence within Inter’s dressing room despite never having played for the club, Corriere della Sera explained today.

Berni joined the Nerazzurri from Torino in 2014 and has not played a single minute in the six seasons which have followed.

However, the 36-year-old recently signed a new one-year extension to continue as their third goalkeeper behind Samir Handanovic and Daniele Padelli.

“Berni trains well, advises Inter’s younger players and has been a reference point for every coach the club has appointed since 2014,” the paper said.

“Earning €200,000 at a club where the wage bill comfortably surpasses €110 million, he is not your average footballer.”

Berni, who used to play the guitar before breaking his little finger, boasts a wide range of unconventional interests outside of football, including romantic novels and 1960s culture.

The Italian married his girlfriend Luna in Kenya in January but the couple are planning to renew their vows in Peru, Asia and other picturesque locations around the world.

“Berni is a curious and whimsical man who embraces diversity,” Corriere continued.

“His life changed when he read Sognavo L’Africa (‘I Dreamed of Africa’) by Kuki Gullman, an Italian writer and environmentalist who has lived in Kenya for many years.

“His wedding to Luna wasn’t the most conventional, given they celebrated it among the Pokot people in Kenya, a tribe which lives in the heart of Africa and celebrates century-old rituals.

“Berni’s decision to hold it there came down to his spirituality and a desire to discover ancient places from which man originated.”
