You're probably right.

After all, somewhere along the way, there were people who said similar stuff about Zanetti, based on some signs, and now we see how it turned out all different in the end.

How foolish of us, to believe there are actually genuine players still living out there.

For every Zanetti there is 99 Zlatans, we all know that, money and titles matters more than the club for 99% of all players. Sneijder might sound different next summer when he wants a payrise and if we fail to win anything important next season.

Hence why i wrote you are naive. But keep believing all you want.

Its funny how a person who keep promoting the same "no player is bigger than the club" and "respect the club bla bla" speeches day in and day out can so easily be deluded/tricked from some random comment given by a player and invent in your own head that he is going to stay forever and will never change mind from this day.

Like i said, naive.

I wonder why Sneijder cant be that 1 'zanetti' in the midst of the 99 'zlatans'. the fact that we have seen it happen before doesnt mean it would happen to anyone. We are keeping our fingers IF anything but it doesnt mean we have to be so pessimistic about it.

For the love of....:palm:

Im not saying he cant, im saying its not very likely because there is 99 Zlatans for each Zanetti and thats why its naivi to think he will be, but go ahead you might be right, i dont care im just stating its naive.

I guess its my own failt for using difficult words like naive in my posts.

If I'd take any other guy, or say a new guy who came to the club and said this, I would agree ^^^. I would even say it is 1 to 1000 ratio.

However I'm pretty confident that the chances of that are much better for Wes.

For every Zanetti there is 99 Zlatans,

I like to be positive this time around.

ps. It's not one liner. It's all that we saw, heard from Wes ever since he joined us last season. We'll see how it will end up, but somehow I rate the chances high enough that he might follow Cambiasso, as another stranieri worthy of our name.

If the coaches dont pull a fast one on us and vote for their darling Messi, we should be ok. He had an amazing club and national team season, I doubt we would find any player in 2009 2010 who had more influence than Sneijder did for his club and country. Messi may have dazzled people all year long but he was shit at the WC and didnt win anything with Barca apart from La Liga.

That's what I always remembered him from, especialy from Ajax days. Great shots from distance. In Italy it is a lot harder, since the teams play tactical games (usually not press high), and there is rarely any opportunity to shot from distance. But I hope for Wes to score couple of screamers this year. He did make couple of great shots last year (like with milan), but either the post helped the other team, or the keepers great save.

Anyways, Wes looked really good for someone who is with the squad for such a short time.

"HE IS A TALENT AND WE ARE DUCTILE. I FEEL READY TO CHALLENGE ROMA."

Milan - Wes was trying to avoid the cameras but the magic that decided the mini tournament against Juve forced him to talk to the cameras about what happened in San Nicola of Bari.

Inter have impressed.
"I saw a good team in both matches. We won the TIM trophy which doesn't hurt. You said that I played well? Yes I had good feelings and it was nice to find the warmth of the fans."

A proof for the Golden Ball.
"But I surely don't live with the obsession of a personal goal. I just think about doing well for Inter and win as much as possible. For now, I played well for the first 45 minutes of the season and if in the future I win the Golden Ball, then it would be better."

Is TIM's victory a starter for the Super Cup?
"Every victory is welcomed because it gives moral and belief in their own means. I am getting better every day and certainly on Saturday against Roma I will be available."

You were the man of the match despite you just returned. What is your secret?
"That's true. I only worked for seven days, including four by myself. But the truth is that in the three weeks of vacation I didn't really lost my condition. So it all came back naturally."

Coutinho is your substitution. But if you always play like this, the Brazilian may never see the field...
"Coutinho is very young and talented. He will have his time."

Now that you've seen him up close, do you believe that you two can play together?
"Why can't we play together? We are flexible. Benitez will evaluate the situation."

Did you tell the coach anything before coming on the field?
"I gave no specific indications. I just told him that I will play my game and be in on the action."

A message to Balotelli.
"I am happy, he was wanted for a good club to play with continuity and City have a great project. I hope that Mario will demonstrate his full value. He deserves to play in a leading role in a team full of good players. I wish him the best."
Just a short interview from Sneijd'or.

Messi fanboys cant take that Sneijder had a better season and world up than him.
How does the so called "best player in the world" manage to not score a single goal at the world cup for his country.
Messi wouldnt be the player he is without xavi and inesta and it shows when he plays for argentina.

Also he scored 0 in the Worldcup is another lame excuse for hate.

I never said he is a poor player messi is an amazing player but somtimes he gets to much credit that he dosent deserve

I'd vote for Julio Cesar instead of Messi for sure. The best footaballer of the world couldn't score even once against the best goalkeeper on the semifinals. I could even vote for Julio instead of Sneijder...

heck, I'd even vote for Pandev over Messi

That's Unpossible

I never said he is a poor player messi is an amazing player but somtimes he gets to much credit that he dosent deserve

Please elaborate, I watched almost 70% of Barca's matches last season and saw him fail in just 2 and they were against us. He was good at Camp Nou as well. He manages to shine in a team that is full of talent, technique almost every time he is on the field.

Even for Argentina, he was good, didnt get the goal but hit the post, created a lot. To me he is on his way to being the best ever.

he shines because he has xavi and inesta he is still an amazing player with out them but not as good as you think
and hes not even close to becoming the best player you cant compare him to even the likes of a pele or maradonna
maradonna is the only reason why argentina won 2 world cups when messi wins a world cup with argentina thats when i will consider him the best
and messi isnt even consistent on the argentine national team so theres some proof there

The question is... If Wesley picks up a major injury, Is Coutinho truly his replacement?

Suneet
19 Aug 10, 14:55
Not yet, but Pandev+Coutinho+Deki :( is good enough backup for Serie A. I think we will chnge our formation if Coutinho, Pandev and Sneijder wont be available for the same gmae.

About Messi's comparison to Maradona well only time can tell, but he is easily Maradona of this era for me and this era its much more difficult to be a footballer, so lets save that debate for some other day.

Moving back to Sneijder, am I asking too much if I say, he needs to score from more free kicks or make the keeper work a little more than he did last season?

Toninu
19 Aug 10, 15:05
Yeah, Wes wasn't as dangerous as expected, I remember some great free kicks with Real, not too many in our colors but he did score some vital free kicks like against Siena (twice) and the one against CSKA which was lucky but still counts :P.

On Coutinho replacing Sneijder, he could be a decent back up but one has to remember that no one can be Sneijder but Sneijder, from the bit I've seen of Coutinho I consider him to be different from Sneijder.

Nero Indigo
19 Aug 10, 16:28
I'd actually like to see him shoot more from outside the box - before he joined us, I knew him to be dangerous when shooting from outside, but here he passes more than he shoots. I'm not complaining though; whatever style he chooses suits me fine. As long as we're winning :D

Luka
19 Aug 10, 17:08
The reason for him not shooting as much from outside of the box is the league he's playing in. In Italy the teams are tacticaly best in the world, and very rarely it happens, that there is free room in front of the opposition deffense. Usually they have 1 DM guarding the area there, and sometimes they have even 2.

Suneet
19 Aug 10, 17:10
Luka has it spot on. When he got space and range he still wnet for a shot if I'm not mistaken. I think when Eto'o is playing central Sneijder needs to start shooting from outside more since Eto'o is quicker than milito to the half chances.

|| WS10 ||
19 Aug 10, 18:12
I think Sneijder needs to take more long range shots this year
at times he is in a good postion to take a shot and he would pass instead
with a shot like he his he should test the keep alot more
i wanna see more goals this year like the one we saw against juve in the tim cup

Netherlands Midfielder Wesley Sneijder Eager To Welcome Liverpool's Dirk Kuyt To Inter

Superstar praises attacker's selflessness

Inter midfielder Wesley Sneijder is keen to see Netherlands team-mate Dirk Kuyt signed up from Liverpool.

The 30-year-old is believed to be on the verge of a £13 million move to reunite with ex-manager Rafael Benitez at the San Siro. After Sneijder and Kuyt helped propel their nation to the World Cup 2010 final, the ex-Ajax and Real Madrid player was eager for them to join forces at club level.

Speaking to Corriere Dello Sport, he said: "With him it's like playing with 12 and not 11 players.

"Kuyt is always running for two and with the work that he does he's always vital, whether for the national team or Liverpool

What a great performance by Sneijder. The guy was fantastic last night, had some great dribbles, also nice shots from distance, and the most important job that he does assists and great passes. I really wanted to see any free-kick goal by him but that didn't happend last night.. whatever, hopefully we will see such great performance even against Atletico Madrid in the European Supercup. In only one year he showed that he's loyal! He has a nice agent, denied the rumours about him going to manchester or real, no public salary-talk, no tricks, he wants to extend his contract, he's a role model on the pitch (the only thing was the red card against bbilan but in derby time it's ok)

Sneijder exclusive on Inter Channel

Tuesday, 24 August 2010 19:58:59

APPIANO GENTILE - Wesley Sneijder spent thirty minutes chatting to Inter Channel's Edoardo Caldara and Roberto Scarpini after Tuesday's training session. From football and taking free kicks to life off the pitch, the Dutch midfielder responded to all kinds of questions from the fans.

Welcome Wesley.
"Ciao to everybody."

How did training go today?
"Well. We trained very hard. It was a tiring day, but we have to focus on our work and make our best preparations for the coming season. We have started well, but it's only the start. Now we have the European Super Cup, our first international game."

Laura from Milan says you looked very handsome during your wedding...
"Thank you. It was a wonderful day. Both me and my wife received many compliments."

Who made all the wedding arrangements?
"My wife. I was busy with work, with training sessions. Yolanthe took care of everything. She was fantastic; she organised everything to perfection."

Roberto asks you to tell us something you like about Italy and something you don't like.
"There are lots of things that I like: the people you meet in the street, who are very kind even if they are fans of other teams. So I want to thank my club, which has helped me and protected me since I arrived. What I don't like is the traffic in the morning when going from Milan to Appiano Gentile."

Salvo from Reggio Emilia read that you said you want to finish your career at Inter. Now he wants you to say it on Inter Channel.
"I would like to end my career at Inter because I have settled in very well here. I have fun with my team-mates, who are exceptional. We have won everything, so why should I leave if the club doesn't want me to?"

Luigi, the owner of a restaurant in Milan, asks what your favourite food is.
"I adore Italian food, but you have to be careful because you get fat if you eat a lot and this is not good. Do I like pizza? I prefer fish."

Mariella from Messina asks who your idol was when you were a boy.
"I didn't have one idol in particular. Zidane was the player I liked most when I watched the big games on TV. When I was little, there were Van Basten, Gullit and Rijkaard in Holland who were three decisive players."

Did you ever think you would win so much?
"I arrived in Italy on a Thursday and on the Saturday I was already on the pitch in a derby against Milan and we won 4-0. I understood right away that ours was a quality team that was very strong physically with an iron defence. I didn't think I could win so much, but as the season went on we had even more confidence in our capabilities. All our recent games have been finals; we are used to doing well and we are ready to do it again this year."

Francesco Mazzanti asks what your secret to taking free kicks is.
"You have to practice a lot. I have worked very hard, ever since I was in the Ajax academy. I also practiced at home. I keep working every day and I always dedicate the last part of every training session to this type of exercise."

You're playing with even more freedom under Rafa Benitez.
"I'm playing even closer to Milito and I like this because I am even closer to the goal."

Simonetta from Cordignano was at the Stadio Meazza for Inter-Roma on Saturday and she had never seen so many children wearing Sneijder shirts. The young fans seem to adore you.
"This is wonderful. It makes me very proud. It was the same for me when I was a kid, so I'm very happy to see the youngsters wearing my shirt."

Are you planning to have any more children?
"I am already the father of a four-year-old, but I would like to have more."

Paola, Jole and Riccardo from Ferrara ask what you said to Samuel Eto'o after Holland-Cameroon. There's TV footage that shows an embrace between the two of you.
"He told me he was convinced that I would do well in the successive matches and he told me to concentrate on the World Cup. I thanked him and told him to enjoy his holiday, but not in an ironic way. I advised him to rest after such a long season and enjoy time with his family."

What did Julio Cesar say to you about the two goals you scored against him in Holland-Brazil when he returned to training with Inter?
"We talked about it in the dressing room after the match. We joked about it. I made fun of him when we returned to training in Italy, because I had never, never scored a goal with my head."

Angelo from the province of Palermo and Tiziano say that you deserve to win the Ballon d'Or and the UEFA awards next Thursday in Monte Carlo.
"I'm not thinking about what I might win right now. I'm only thinking about the match against Atletico and the next one against Bologna. The individual awards are nice, but you can't win them if you don't have a solid team behind you. I am in the right place but I want to point out that it won't only be my merit if I win. I repeat, I'm not thinking about the awards but the people talk about them and if I do win I will dedicate them to my wife, who protected me during the whole of last season, and also to my team-mates and all the fans who have always supported me and my team."

Thanks Wesley. Keep up the good work.
"A thousand thanks to everybody."

SNEIJDER: "GOAL AGAINST ATLETICO AND THE GOLDEN BALL."

"Another goal against Atletico for Inter and the Golden Ball."
The Dutchman: "Against the Spaniards, I've never lost. I want to win everything."

Appiano Gentile - Repeating is often "crazy". Very crazy. Everything is crazy. But there is a chain of coincidences that gives a sense of this madness. "Atletico Madrid? Ok, Let me tell you this." Wesley Sneijder then sits, takes a cup of coffee, and spreads the story. "When I was at Real Madrid, the first game of the season, my first game in Liga, it was against Atletico Madrid. A derby right away just like here in Milan." Win that one? "Two to one for Real. The second goal was mine at the 87th minute. I've played against them four times, I've never lost. And obviously I would not want that to happen now." This is Wesley Sneijder: one (crazy) year later.

On August 27, 2009 Wesley Sneijder arrived in Italy. Tomorrow, the same day, another important day. It was an incredible year.
"Crazy, very crazy and incredible. In one year we've won many many trophies. The fifth title is before us and we must take it."

Traps are everywhere though.
"I know Atletico Madrid well and they are a dangerous team. It has very good players like Ujfalusi but above all Aguero and Forlan."

People say that for you and Forlan, this is the game for the Golden Ball.
"Rich quality player as he's shown with each of his shirt. He shoots well with both feet and definitely a menace for tomorrow game in Monaco."

Sneijder equals Golden Ball. Thoughts?
"I don't know what I will do if I win it, but right now I think have around four months: and first thing is to win everything then we'll see. Do I feel that I am close? A little yes considering the victories with my club and the near-victory at the World Cup."

Recent Golden Balls went to those who won the World Cup.
"True. But for this I want to change history."

Was there a bad moment in this sweet year?
"The red card in the derby, because it was very strange. The referee (Bergonzi) did not do it on purpose, did not realize that I just wanted to talk to him, instead he believed that I was attacking him. But now I know, I won't speak to the referees anymore just to avoid misunderstandings. Indeed, in the Supercup against Roma, Bergonzi asked me why I wasn't talking. I explained that I wanted to avoid misunderstandings. He is one of the best and now I just shake hand with the referees before and after the game."

Why is Inter's Wesley is so different from Real's?
"In Spain, I had private problems: the divorce with my wife and I didn't see my son because of that. Then, an injury that left me out three months, at that point I found myself chasing. Real did not believe in my anymore and I had to train alone. the worst thing for any footballer."

Which is the best: six titles or another Champions League?
"I would choose six titles because it can happen very soon and I don't know if another Champions League will come."

The draw is tomorrow. Anyone you want to see? Avoid?
"I would like Ajax. When I left, I've never played against them. And then I want good challengers, the best teams. I don't fear anyone."

As always feel under pressure?
"I like it very much because I want the adrenaline. I want to win everywhere, even in a football-tennis match against Rapetti so if we win tomorrow and then lose to Bologna then it would be very bad."

Has you called Kuyt?
"No."

Impossible.
(Laughs) "Yes he is a friend. I would like to him to come here. Playing with him is like playing with 12 men. He can do anything such as protecting the ball, running, and scoring. He is welcome here and not because he is Dutch."

Did you say this to Moratti?
"To him like to everyone."

Benitez and Mou in three words.
(Laughs) "They're. Completely. Different."

Hypothesis: if Rafa asks you to go back to the middle of the field would you?
"I would not be happy. I played that position eight years ago and my position is different."

In Milan, however, you need to "diversify"...
"Yolanthe and I like to get a hat everything, take our bike to go for a ride. In Milan, your country, I like the environment. I don't notice any problems from those who came here from my country, from Amsterdam to Madrid. At there it was tough, but not here. Italian language? I understand and can speak it, but for now I am more confident with English."

Tell us about Coutinho.
"Good player and humble. The future is his but he needs to grow. If we can play together? Yes, because he can play anywhere."

What if Ibra goes to Milan?
"It would be harder to win the derby even if it never depends on one man. And in the championship, they would be a strong competitor like Juve and others."

But now the competition is Europe.
"We are facing a finale and this is a bid threat against Atletico. However, we are used to this as well. We like to play them. We want to keep the tension high."

Competitions like this could give you things, perhaps the Golden Ball.
"So do the games after so they can make my dream of six titles, although I can also make history by winning six consecutive Scudetti."

Any thoughts on post football?
"I will coach for sure. Maybe at Inter..."Regarding his bad moment, I think he meant Rocchi as the referee.

one of the reasons we failed yesterday was because of Sneijder. not that he played particularly bad, but he was practically a striker, often being the guy furthest up the pitch. perhaps it was because of the 4-3-2-1 formation, but we really need him to connect the play, start the attack and not to finish it as it seemed he was supposed to last night.

Wesley Sneijder: I Hope To Sign A New Inter Deal Soon

Inter's Wesley Sneijder admits a new contract is close and that Zlatan Ibrahimovic was smart to leave Barcelona for AC Milan.

Inter midfielder Wesley Sneijder has confirmed reports he is close to signing a new deal with the club. The Italian press have recently suggested he will sign a two-year extension, taking his contract at San Siro until 2015.

The Dutch playmaker moved to the Italian outfit last summer after being ostracised at Real Madrid, and became an integral component of the Nerazzurri's treble winning campaign.

"I hope as soon as possible to reach a new agreement with the club. We are working hard. I hope it is handled quickly and I can stay connected to this great club for a long time," he explained at a press conference alongside coach Rafael Benitez, ahead of their Champions League clash at Twente.

Meanwhile, he also commented on Zlatan Ibrahimovic's return to Serie A after being deemed surplus to requirements at Barcelona - a situation that had some similarities to Sneijder's.

"Zlatan is a player with extraordinary qualities. I've seen him at Ajax, he's a great striker. He had a fantastic time in Italy before he went to Barcelona," he continued.

"That transfer was a shame, because I would have liked to play alongside him. I hope he has some luck, because I like him as a person and as a player. I think it was a wise choice."

Inter Playmaker Wesley Sneijder: We Can Defend Our Champions League Title
Sneijder believes that Inter can conquer Europe again

Inter midfielder Wesley Sneijder is confident that the Nerazzurri can win the Champions League for the second season in a row.

The Beneamata are set to play Dutch champions FC Twente in Enschede on Tuesday in their opening game of Group A. Speaking in the pre-match press conference on Monday, Sneijder said that they can win the trophy again this season.

"Inter can win the Champions League again, for many reasons, but it obviously won't be easy," Sneijder said. "We have the advantage of having a relatively unchanged team.

"Only a few new players have come in and we have lots of quality and desire. It will be important to be in form for the knockout games, but first we have to think about this group, which is very difficult."

The Dutch international midfielder explained that he is familiar with Inter's upcoming opponents and stated that they won't be pushovers.

"I know Twente well, they are Dutch champions and they will be highly motivated, they will want to win in front of their fans but we have come here to win the three points.

"Twente are a good team and they will definitely try to make it difficult for us, but we obviously want to show our qualities and get our first victory in the group."

The former Real Madrid midfielder also reflected on the Beneamata's less than impressive start to the season.

"Every season starts from scratch," he said. "We had a few problems against Atletico Madrid and Bologna, but we are up and running again. We won against Udinese and things are going much better. Motivation isn't a problem: I said that we are starting from zero with the same great desire to win everything again.

"For me it's special to play here in Holland and when I watch the Dutch league I follow Twente. They will certainly have the support of their fans but we have our qualities and strategies, and we're focused on winning this encounter."

Inter Star Wesley Sneijder Could Miss Palermo Clash - Report

Sneijder is not at his best and might be a doubt for the trip to Palermo.

Inter midfielder Wesley Sneijder is a slight doubt for this Sunday's clash with Palermo, according to Goal.com Italia.

The Dutch international suffered a knock during the 2-2 draw with Twente in the Champions League and is reportedly still feeling some pain, causing him to train alone on Friday. There are some concerns he will not be available to coach Rafael Benitez in Sicily.

It should be noted, that this was a similar theme last season as there would be question marks over Sneijder's availability and he would often still feature in the starting XI in most cases. The former Real Madrid playmaker's condition will be further assessed on Saturday.

However there was also some good news to come from the Angelo Moratti Sports Centre, as striker Goran Pandev will not miss much action after sustaining a knee injury in the same match and should return for the contest against rivals Roma on September 25.
