Qualification to WC 2006 - Asian [ Scores Inside ]

We need a thread for this and i thought there was one....

Anyways today lots of games going on and in the earliest one Bahrain beat N.Korea 2-1

This was massive because of the conditions the Bahraini team was going through....like the last minute resignation of the coach and appointing a new one ON LOAN.

Plus the very long travel to N.Korea via China with the flight going through lots of turbulance, and then hours of wait in the Airport...But they got through it all and I hope they can hold Japan too and we will be in good shape.

great idea Ziyad hope there are other people interested in this thread other than me and u

Well, our match was really hard against a well organised team and their way of playing football with pace and their attacking attitude. They really made it difficult for us and we were really lucky to win this tie

Well we weren't lucky enough cuz iran beated Japan 2/1, but still we are in a good situation and we should really start thinking about getting something from wendsday's match against japan in tokyo to keep our hopes high in getting one of the two direct qualification tickets available.

    Other results:

    Saudi Arabia 2 - 0 South korea

    Kuwait 2 - 1 Uzbekistan

So, a great day for arabic teams in Asia

Well, good win by Saudi although many fans don't want to the team to make it to the WC because of many things. The team is selected based on interest and not talent and people are sick of the refereeing in the league.

An ex-NT player was asked recently if he thinks the team will make it to the WC. He said that he hopes not because if they make it this time they will lose by 8+8 or 16 goals!!!

BTW, why would Bahrain fire the coach? He did pretty good, I guess they got infectd by the Saudi virus of having 6 coaches in 2 years!

Our coack recieved a great offer from oman and resigned but actually we didn't go for a new adventure, we are having our old coack who guided us to great results too. But the problem is that he is loaned to us for just two matches

Hamed ,i thought Saudi looks like a new team...more so than in the gulf cup. They have different players so i was hoping this problem with favoritism has ended...

Anyways yesterday was a great day for Gulf football...Where are the rest of the Asians of this topic...

As for our coach he bailed on us last minute and went to Oman...I hope Wolfgang can get us through this and hopefully then we can get a new coach who is great at getting small teams do well in the WC..

Anyways where are the Kuwaiti members on here...Big gulf derby on Wed. and big game for us against the Japanese who will want to flex their muscle after the Iranian defeat.

There were more than 100,000 spectators in that game against Japan as there always is when the Iranian national team plays...

From what i heard that after the game ended and on their way out there must have been overcrowding and these people have died as a result, maybe a human stampede or something...very unfortunate on such a happy occassion for Iran.

Five die in crush at Iran qualifier

At least five football fans have been killed after a crush following Iran's World Cup qualifying match against Japan in Tehran.
The tragedy occurred when around 100,000 spectators tried to leave the Azadi stadium in the Iranian capital following the 2-1 win for Iran.

Dozens of supporters have also been injured in the incident, reported state-run television on Saturday

More than odd I would say suspicious. Somebody screwed up badly here, I hope they're not trying to cover things up.

Here is the latest on the tragic incident after the game.
Anyhow 2 of my relatives were in the stadium and they did more or less confirmed the reports which media published explaining the sad events after the game was over.

FIFA opens official investigation following stampede in Tehran
FIFA opened an official investigation on Saturday 26 March into a stampede that apparently occurred after the FIFA World Cup qualifying match between Iran and Japan on Friday evening, 25 March in Tehran.
    FIFA

According to various news reports, five people were said to have been killed and 40 more injured when the spectators were heading for the exits of the Azadi Stadium after the game which Iran had won 2-1.

The FIFA administration sent a fax today (Saturday) to the Iran FA requesting further information on the tragic events.

    ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

On a good note, it was a GREAT victory for my country. I'd say there now is a 70% chance that we reach the finals in Germany.

And this is what's happening in Africa, no wonder alot of players want to play for a European NT rather than their own. Get civilzed people

Trouble Mars Three African World Cup Games
    3/29/2005 11:58:00 AM
A riot caused the abandonment of Mali's home World Cup qualifier with Togo in Bamako on Sunday. And there was also crowd trouble in Cairo before and after the game between Egypt and Libya, while in Cameroon, Sudan players angrily confronted the referee at the end of the match.
The riot in Bamako was sparked by a 90th minute goal from Togoís Souleymane Cherif Maman. Mali, playing their first match under new French coach Pierre Lechantre, had been leading 1-0 through Soumaila Coulibalyís 16th-minute goal until the 83rd minute when Mustapha Salifou equalised for Togo.

Mamanís last-minute goal would have left Mali stuck at the bottom of Group One with only two points. It was the cue for thousands of Mali fans to invade the pitch, prompting police to fire tear gas at the angry fans as state television cut its live transmission of events inside the 70,000-seater 26 March stadium. Gunshots were subsequently fired in chaotic scenes as thousands tried to get out of the ground.

Outside the stadium, cars were attacked amid reports of several injuries as rioting continued into the city, with thousands descending on the capitalís main African Unity Avenue and yelling:
"Give us Frederic Kanoute and Mamadou Bakayoko! Weíre going to kill them!" Kanoute and Bakayoko are two of Maliís top players.

Protestors blocked a main road with burning tyres, cutting off western Bamako from the eastern half of the city.

On Monday, Mali Prime Minister Ousmane Issoufi Maiga went on national radio to congratulate Togo for their victory, and said his government would work to repair the damage caused by his nationís íunsporting behaviourí.

This is not the first time trouble has marred a match between Mali and Togo. In October, four people died in a stampede when the floodlights failed shortly after Togoís 1-0 win in an earlier World Cup qualifier in Lome.

Fifa have received the match commissionerís report on Sundayís events, and this will be examined by their disciplinary committee in the near future before a final decision is made on what happens next.

In Cairo, visiting Libya fans ripped up plastic seats and hurled them at police before the Group Three game, which Egypt won 4-1.

In Yaounde, where Cameroon beat Sudan 2-1 with a late goal, the problems were on the pitch. The beaten Sudanese players angrily confronted Senegalese referee Badara Diatta, who they felt had added too much injury time, during which the Indomitable Lions scored their match-winner
