Troubles in sight for the Inter?

I dont read/understand Italian so well, but i think it went like this:

Inter didnīt allow J.Zanetti and Kily to play for Argentina (for some reason) and now Inter are in trouble, because they broke Fifaīs number 40 and 41 rules. I also read that at least J. Zanetti is dissapointed īcause it wasnīt friendly he was supposed to play. They were supposed to play WC qualification match against Ecuador. Argentines coach Bielsa is furious and he has reported this to Fifa already.

I even read that Inter now risks a disqualification from international field or/and the result against Reggina will be cancelled and Reggina will be the winner.

This story is from plenty of Italian sites already.

    Hereīs the link for Gazzetta

Argentina to complain to FIFA about Inter

    Mon 29 March, 2004 16:26

BUENOS AIRES, March 29 (Reuters) - Argentina are to complain to FIFA, saying Inter Milan failed to release Javier Zanetti and Cristian Gonzalez in time for Tuesday's World Cup qualifier with Ecuador, media reports said on Monday.

Inter included both midfielders in their squad for Sunday's Italian Serie A match against Reggina, making it impossible for them to arrive in Buenos Aires the stipulated 48 hours before kickoff.

Argentina coach Marcelo Bielsa, who dropped both players as a result, attacked the Italian club, telling Argentine media that fixture congestion was killing the sport.

"They weren't going to be able to meet the demands of professional football," he said.

"They were willing to come but the situation was absolutely abnormal. They accepted the decision with sadness and disappointment because they have a great identity with the national team.

"But I told them that asking them not to travel in these circumstances showed that we value and recognise them as players."

Bielsa added that he considered even the regulatory 48 hours as insufficient.

"If a player is going to play in different continents, he should arrive five days before," Bielsa said.

"In this case, they did not even respect the 48-hour period. It makes me indignant that it has come to this. It's killing football. It's taking away from the public the possibility of seeing the spectacle they would wish for."

National teams are usually entitled to have their players five days before competitive matches but this week's World Cup qualifiers are taking place on a date allocated by FIFA for friendlies. As a result, the 48-hour rule applies.

Biesla can shut up. Does he remember what he did to us last year? he took JZ and Crespo to a friendly in japan and we lost them against milan. This cost us the match and had we won that game maybe we could've faired better in serie A. Instead of thanking inter for that now he is attacking them? this guy is just looking for excuse since he can't get the job done. Besides, how the heck do you schedule WC qualifiers on tuesdays? are they stupid? I support inter decision because our aim is to secure 4th place and win the uefa not help whatever country in the WC qualifiers. Fifa is an impotent organization and they couldn't solve the club vs. country row and still they can't. Until they find a solution don't blame any club.

On the other hand, this was unavoilable, especially considering how we are screwing Nigeria up. Inter and Nigeria will have a real dispute soon, I think.

Letīs just face it. We HAVE to release our players to the NT. Itīs just too bad that Trap and etc. chooses to use the Inter players more than any other top teams players.

Not true my friend. At least not Trap (whom i dislike btw). He almost always picks about three players from each "big" team. Injuries might happen to anyone and sometimes heīs forced to pick extra player(s) from some team.

Other NTīs, donīt know that much. Maybe it may seem so, because we have huge amount of NT skilled players in our team.

Sure, he picks them. But ponder about the playing minutes too. There was one NT game where I counted how many minutes the Inter players received against the other top teams. Inter 'won' by a mile.

Yeah, i remember you posted those minutes.

I dont think that itīs usually that way. I dont believe thereīs any conspiracy against us. Maybe some of our players are just that good.

Someone has to stand from the clubs to teams like Nigeria. They choose the worse time to hold a tournament and they hold it every other year. January to February is the midst of the season and is the time when the team is mostly thin.

We are not screwing them whatsoever, if they want their players then they better take into consideration that we are paying for these players and it's us that get affected by their long absence. It's as easy as this, FIFA should step up and present an annual calendar taking all factors into consideration. Otherwise the same problem will arise year after year.

as we have so many injured players (too many),
    FIFA may agree with inter..

it's not an easy situation for the club. On one hand, the club knows that letting the players play for NT are good for morales and everything...

on the other hand, with our current condition, we could not just let them go..

I don't understand why recoba can still play for his NT...

Africa has unfriendly schedule against european competition... fifa should backup the club since the club which basically support the player's living..

Bielsa sucks..., they should replace him with cuper

It's not only for inter. FIFA has to sort things out with all the other federations. How much resources does FIFA have, i think they have more money than the united nation but they seem ineffective. There has to be a global calendar that all the clubs and NT's follow to avoid all these headaches.

Hopefully we win this argument with Bielsa and that we don't end up having to pay or something...

Though I also agree that the International and club fixtures clash 2 much... though there isn't really a solution that I can think of other than play all International games for 1 year then all club games for 3 years and I doubt that will be liked by everyone

I honestly think we should pay the fine and end the whole conflict! No price is worth having J.Zanetti getting injured!

For me players should play for their NT when it is qualifiers unless the NT gives them permission not to. Clubs who complain know the country the player comes from and the clashes that may arise, if it bothers them that much then they should only buy players from Europe for instance.

If there is a fine then we should pay it, but FIFA need to try and sort it out. Things like this happen a lot, look at the African nations cup, so many clubs complained about this and some players like Martins didn’t even go. Sadly I think these clashes will always occur between club and country and there r good points for both sides, but at least it gives us something to talk about.

I find this situation to be very strange. Adriano played against Reggina yet he can be included in the Brazil squad. Why can't J.Zanetti and Kily be included in the Argentina squad too??? If Inter 'doesn't' wanna release them, I think we're wrong and stupid. It's better to risk losing J.Zanetti and Kily through fatigue/injury than losing them (or 3 points) for sure due to breaking the law.

Argentina`s game was played on Tuesday and Brazil`s game on Wednesday so I guess that explains it.

Well the oba situation is diffrent if I am right inter ha sonly refused to realise him for non official fifa games while on the other occasions he himself(not inter) decided he wasn't ready for international football.
    Forza Inter per sempre!!!!
