So. We've been linked to Sime Vrasljko and Martin Montoya. Who would you guys prefer? Both right backs capable of playing as wingbacks. I was very impressed by Vrasljko when we played Genoa and that was his first Serie A game. Montoya from the school of tiki taka probably brings a bit more possession wise, and may be more comfortable playing as part of the midfield.

I'd go with Montoya. Talent wise, he's on par if not better than Dani Carvajal of Madrid, obviously more balanced player than his Madrid counterpart. We may also have possibility to acquire him for free due to expiring contract (I think he's refused to sign a new contract with Barca up until now because of lack of playing time over Dani Alves).

On other hand, Vrasljko seems solid defensively but little bit of suspect with his delivery when going forward. Not often see him playing tbh, since this is his first season in Italy, but surely he's one young talent to watch.

    Zuniga close to Barcelona?

Colombian media claim Napoli wing-back Juan Camilo Zuniga is very close to agreeing a move to Barcelona.

The 27-year-old has failed to agree a new contract with the Partenopei and his current deal expires in June 2014, so from January he’d be free to negotiate with other clubs.

It had until now been reported that his delays were down to interest from Juventus, but Colombian media paint a different picture.

“On Monday there should be a meeting with the directors to see if the player will renew his contract or not,” Radio Caracol journalist Carlos Aleman told SportItalia.

“If he doesn’t, then Barcelona are the most plausible option, especially if Dani Alves leaves. I don’t know if the Juventus links have gone, but Zuniga would prefer the Catalans.

“In Colombia both he and his family have repeatedly stated he’s dreaming of Barcelona.”

How lovely that they are dreaming about Barca.

I didn't know he's only 18 years up to now when you mentioned it Quite surprising for me really, since I follow Cagliari's games since last season. He's still raw, but a good talent indeed (plus his work rate is quite something).

Anyway, I'm watching Barca-Rayo now, Montoya is very shaky in this game, obviously one of his worst games. He seems not confident, and is caught having wrong positioning at times. Any Rayo's attack coming from his side always looks dangerous for Barca. I wonder if his bad performance may relate to clouds over his future. He still can make it though, if being managed properly, albeit not as starting player in a big club as Barca or Inter (esp. with his current form).

Probably due to uncertainty over his future. That can be taxing on a young player especially. Agent probably pushing for the move, Barca telling him to be patient etc.

    Javier Zanetti

    Fiji

    Vrsaljko = solid, consistent player

Not a player who especially stands out, but does his job very well.

However, even in the Croatian league he was recognized to be very defensive. Undoubtedly he will show his capacity to go forward, because he was still effective when deployed as a right midfielder, interacting well with the other midfielders and making a few nice crosses

But I'd say that his defensive side to the game is stronger than his offensive side

He's very versatile, and quite intelligent and hardworking, so hopefully he can succeed this year with Genoa (his performances so far have only reflected well on him)

I'm not sure about Montoya though, I don't believe he's especially strong defensively nor consistent tbh

Although if we're talking about young talented RBs, why not mention Giulio Donati? He was excellent for Italy in the u21 Championships, consistent with Grosseto in Serie B, and is now a starter for Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga

He gave them while he was in Milan, not sure if he can repeat this efficiency if he joins.

    Better stay where he is.

I've read comments from Juve fans saying Isla has been killing their counters, much like Nagatomo with us. Any validity to this?
