    Pessimists vs. Optimists

Yeah, well, usually the pessimists claim they are realists, but it's not entirely the truth. I've always been saying that we are either optimists or pessimist, no one is realist, no matter how much of a realist you think you are. I've just read an article about this so i wanted to share. I didnt know in which thread, so i opened new.

    Here it goes:

People about negativity often tend to think is something people have in themselves. It happens, sometimes we 'feel' negative. But sometimes, negativity can be so deep into you, you won't even know it's there and 'realism' is actually pessimism.

Psychologically, we use the term 'reality is a mask of the negativity'. It's easy to rationalize that those people are simply 'realists'. They often presume the optimists are not realistic and are naive, and simply go with their heads against the wall. The question now remains, are those people 'happy idiots' or optimism is something else?

Well, the 'realism' of pessimist is incorrect. When you see the world from "realistic point of view", you can't help yourself not to be negative, IF your version of reality is negative.

If so, if your version of reality is negative, then you are restricted to believe that everything bad can happen - WILL happen. And all that good that can happen most probably won't, and will be the opposite.

Sometimes, this negativity is so deeply rooted in your subconscious, you wont be able to realize that you are negative person, and how would you tell that you are actually stuck in a field of negativity that will deny you of rationalizing 'reality' and believe that you (or someone close) will attract bad people, happenings, or feelings.
THere's also a test to see if you have negative energy in you (provided by some group of psychologists), if you want i will translate it as well.

here is the link from that article, on one macedonian website.

Except, the article completely missed the existence of 'realistic optimists'.

    Psychology 101.

Things are very rarely so explicitly and uniquely segregated in this universe, there're always grey areas.

Well, it was more about pessimism and negativity, rather than optimists, so i guess that's why they missed it.

It sounds like it's trying to define realists as pessimists - especially where they mentioned realist is merely a concealment for a pessimist.

But the article fails to come into realization that realists don't solely look at something from the negative angle, not on every subject there is anyway.

There is just this fundamental flaw in the conceptualization of this clear division between pessimists and optimists. In fact, I think it is more of a smooth transition between the extreme ends, and somewhere in the middle we'll always have 'realistic pessimist' and 'realistic optimist'.

Which is why I wouldn't read too much into an article like this, scientific theories without a single reference, like the ones I pull out from my arse on daily basis, theorems without clear proofs.

It is entirely true that one can never truly be unbiased, but there are people who are simply closer to being a realist than others because of the way they scientifically gauge and measure through data, i.e. people on the higher educated end. They might be wrong through biased data, but it doesn't make them less of a realist, they are just misinformed scientists.

Maybe, i do agree to some extend. But the article says the truth to some extend as well. Just a simple example is here, the fans on FIF, outside you and some others trolling

The pessimists tend to see everything from negative angle. For example, if our team wins and plays well (Udinese case), they will find out one msitake from a player and talk about it, NOT the positives from the game.

THe optimists wise-versa. Even in bad games, they tend to see the little positives there are. And the conflict then starts, who the hell is realist? None, there are either optimists or pessimists.

i was once on a lecture, and a guy talked about this issue. And he said that negativity is often state of mind and no matter how it 'realistic' it looks, it's actually far away. And that those, like you called, 'realistic optimists' are in 90% more closer to the middle line of realism than the 'realistic pessimists'.

Football fans will generally be either extremely optimistic or pessimistic about their team. You have the delusional kinds, who believe their team is the best and will blame everything under then sun if their team lose. Most Milanisti are good example for this. And then you have those, that Pajo perfectly describe: "The pessimists tend to see everything from negative angle. For example, if our team wins and plays well (Udinese case), they will find out one msitake from a player and talk about it, NOT the positives from the game."

I don't agree with that I have to be honest.

I think in order to make this judgement call that this guy is making, one has to look at the exact circumstance to determine how close to reality one's idea is, otherwise one would just be misinformed.

Overall, I think the guy is rather prejudice here. If we're talking about people with this negativity in the state of mind, then we aren't really talking about people who are close to 'realist' here, but are closer to 'pessimist' rather. The guy is really classifying 'pessimist' as 'realist' here.

I don't really know who are you trying to reflect here on this forum, but the fact that this is an Inter forum, with the majority of people being Inter fans, then it is completely logical that 'extremists' are going to be more prevalent around here. Only people who have the least connection to the club would be able to look at everything related to the club completely objectively, with a few exceptions.

I guess I'm pretty difficult to be convinced unless I have some research papers in front of me, nothing really convinces me any more. Especially not because some guy from the net wrote an article or some guy from the lecture said so.

Put it here because most of the people are just what that guy described

The REASON why many (arguably including myself) tend to focus on negative aspects is because we have higher ambitions for Inter

Ofc it is important to focus on improvements, but fans will always demand more from the team, until we return to the upper echelons of European football, where a team like Inter truly belongs tbh

Then there is someone like Azzizkr/Ojap who will always be dissatisfied regardless of the scenario...

I just think the so called realists tend to think they are smarter than everyone cause they somehow overcome the joy of the current positive aspects of the situation and that due to their supposed "superb vision and intelligence" they rush to the negative aspects drawn from their own side of conclusion.

Besides the fact that pessimistic people are usually sad people who have plenty of negativity and serious issues in their life, or just simply it`s in their characters reflecting the informations in the DNA they hold. In the end of the day the pessimistic`s predcitions tend to be the more obvious then the optimistic`s cause life is sad and miserable and when it comes to sport, it`s usually 1/20 becomes the only ultimate winner, while it differs from 3/20 to 7/20 to become satisfied with the results they achieved bearing in mind they are not among the ultiumate winners. So it leaves alot of room to think in a pessimitic way cause it`s only natural that we end up not winning the scudetto (not being in the 1/20) or not even qualifying for the CL (excluding from the 3/20 in our case).

So being pessimistic/realistic is just stating the obvious, it`s far from being the smartest or the more superior asshole.

But if you watch Inter on regular basis despite the fact things are going bad, there's still at least a little optimism in you about the future.

Or, if things are going as shit as they do now for us, and you still support and follow your beloved club, then you're a great optimist, just that you're not consciously aware of it.

My username has nothing to do with the player of loserpool fc, it is just a reference to an Italian novel.
