    Pharmacies/Doping in football

There are many problems in football...but the biggest problem at the moment, for players, is the doping.

Anyone read/heard yet about the newest incident in Italia? Im just watching Punto e a capo program from Rai Due. I just saw quite shocking video that was taken in a Parma locker room from the season 1998/1999 just before UEFA cup final against Marseille, where Fabio Cannavaro injects the substance called Neoton [now banned - at that time it wasn't] and several teammates talk about what substances they take too. Our own Sebastian Veron is/was one of the users as well and was shown on the video. Of course, it wasnt illegal then, but man it looks ugly. Cannavaro also said in the video "Here is the evidence that we are disgusting."

We just talked about doping with Tim few days ago. We both think that almost everyone if not everyone uses some kind of doping/illegal pharmacies. We also talked that were not going to defend any users, but we kind of understand why they use. Sometimes they play three intense 90 minute matches in a week, add all the trainings etc and thats what you get. You would be a true superman if you can handle that without anything illegal.

Heres few links to stories [all italian]...

    I feel disgusted!

This is what I just posted in the Serie A thread. But this deserves its own thread:

Oh My!!! I heared that they will show a famous soccer player using drugs before a game. I honestly didn't think it would be Cannavaro.

Man, Thank God we tossed him, I would haven't been able to stand him if he was still with us. There is a difference between doing it in purpose, and doing it accidently like Kallon.

Damn, Gismo indicated something like that, but I never took it to heart. Well, no wonder he is injury free with Juve, I guess our doctors refused to give him his 'fixes' with us.

What? For a second I though you said Frey!!! Man, I don't want us to be associated with these things. Send his ass back to Chelsea or River Plate.

...there is also a difference to use something legal than illegal. I have no doubts that Kallon did use illegal drugs on purpose. I do think he was not the only one that used doping at Inter, he was just unlucky to get caught. I also think that almost everyone uses something pharmatical drugs [legal or illegal].

Im quite that that we all would be amazed if we knew what happens behind the closed doors...

Ugly stuff, but I'm not suprised.

It's an illusion that today's footballers or any other elite sportsmen/women decline these sort of things. They'll take whatever legal stuff they can get to enhance their performance, and as the report said, that thing was legal back then. It's not a matter of who's doping, it's a matter of who's getting caught!
100% record when attending games, Moratti, please hire me!

BUENOS AIRES, April 29 (Reuters) - Argentina and Inter Milan midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron said he appeared in the film in which his former Parma team mate Fabio Cannavaro is seen using a drip on the eve of the 1999 UEFA Cup final.

"You can see me, I was in the room," Veron told an Argentine radio station. "But you can't see that I did anything."

The film, shown on Italian state broadcaster RAI Due's current affairs programme "Full Stop and From the Top", shows Cannavaro, then a Parma player, relaxing in his hotel room the evening before the UEFA Cup final against Olympique Marseille in Moscow which the Italian club won 3-0.

The Italian international, who now plays for Juventus, is shown inserting a drip into his arm which his lawyer confirmed contained Neoton, a drug used in cardiac surgery to protect the heart that is not on the World Anti Doping Agency's list of banned substances.

Veron said Neoton use is common. "It's used when there are a lot of matches in a short space of time and it helps you recover more quickly," he said.

"We had just played the final of the Italian Cup, I think it was two or three days earlier, plus there was the journey to Russia. Some players decided to make use of this, which is also something the doctor knows about."

Veron, who is now on the books of English premier league side Chelsea but has been on loan to Inter Milan all season, added: "All the teams use it.

"It is something that is used and has been used and to do so is firstly a decision of the player and then the doctor."

He said the video did not make pleasant viewing.

"It doesn't look good because you see when the doctor pricks his arm and it's not something which is nice to see. Also, the television puts on that background music and a whole ambiance which has nothing to do with it."
This wasnt a banned substance they used, but still Neoton, should be used as a cardiotonic, not as a performance enhancer. Its freakin dangerous!

No wonder players die in heart-attacks during matches/trainings.

Thanx for the clip Xandru and Ari, although there was no sound, but I didn't need it, Canna was disgusting

Let's not try and play down this incident. Canna doped himself, clear as a sun light. Doping for me is using something that enhances your performance unfairly. What is the difference between it and bribing refs? You are doing something extra that gives you an edge without the knowledge of the other team.

And this point about being banned or not is irrelevant. He knew when he used it that it gave him an edge, so he knew it was unfair to use it. And this lame excuse by Veron that everyone uses it is as horrible as his back-passes. And even lamer is the claim that 'we have to do it because we have too many games.' Well, too freaking bad, if you can't handle it then quit soccer and be whatever is it that you want. I hope we get rid of him, I don't want any dopers in our squad.

Now it all makes sense, Canna is suddenly injury free thanx to the Juve pharmacy. We always have players injured, maybe it's because we have a no-drugs policy, unlike other teams. It seems Moratti is pretty strict, I am sure that's why he sold Kallon, although they were very close and Kallon didn't do it in purpose.

    Ohh, the double standards.

You seriously think that these players [who get caught for using doping or performance enhances] are the only ones who use something? Why dont you believe Veron when he said "All the teams use it."? You really think Inter is pure and our players doesnt use anything similar than this neoton? I think its naive to think like that [no offense].

Sport is what it is. Zdenak Zeman charged that "Italian soccer has to move out of the drugstore" in 1998 and his views hasnt changed since. Im sure he knows what hes talking about.

There is no double standard whatsoever. Canna took the thing on purpose, bragged about it, and was smiling. Kallon didn't do in purpose, he was cleared of that, and got punished for it.

Until you give me a proof that we dope our players, I won't believe it. I don't know why you'd even say such a thing, I thought it was universal knowledge amongst the fans that we are a clean club. Ever wondered why we get ridiculous amount of injuries and not the others? Maybe there is something....

Anyway, if the Italian federation has any cojones, they should strip that doper of the captaincy. But knowing things there, he will parade his NT in front of the world in Germany Thank God I am no longer an Azzurri fan.

Cannavaro/Veron and many more used that neoton on purpose, thats a fact. Its disgusting, i know. I dont deny that. But, it was legal and it still is [if i understood it correctly] legal to do that. Its "only" ethically wrong. Still its disgusting!

What Kallon did was that he used doping. If he really did use it without knowing, then he must be a stupid stupid man. How can one not know what he takes to this body? Every athlete that get caught denies using it, of course. Only some are brave enough to tell the whole story.

Of course i cant prove that our players dont use anything, can you prove they dont? Of course you cant.

Try this. In that link you find plenty of prove/speculation/whatever that this sport we all love so much isnt pure.

Don T, there are 1000 ways in which a player can get a banned substance in his urine. It could be from a shampoo that you use or from a mosquite repellant. Kallon brought it into his system that way, it was proven that he didn't take it on purpose but he was punished nonetheless because he should've been more careful.

Canna and Veron took it on purpose. Whether it was banned or not is, like I said, irrelevant. They took something that they knew gave them an illegal edge, and if either was a man, he would've not taken it! Canna was practically bragging about taking it and enjoying it like a hippie stoning himself, that was really disgusting. I really lost all my respect to him.

I stand by my belief that our team doesn't use illegal substances. Like I said, there is a definite correlation between that and the ridiculous amount of injuries we get.

But knowing how shy and non-aggressive Moratti is, he didn't want to make that public. I don't know why is he that gutless when it comes to standing against Lega Calcio, it's hurting us.

Still, most commonly an athlete gets some illegal drugs to his body is via doping injection.

They took something that they knew gave them an illegal edge, and if either was a man, he would've not taken it!
So true and i agree with you on this.

Anyway, im sure we wont agree about this thing, so let me just ask you one more thing and then i may rest my case. Do you think sport in general is clean? [definition of clean means no doping nor performance enhances]

Firstly the substance is now illegal atleast thats what I think I read on gazzeta.

Secondly Cannavaro defenitly doped himself. It was only leggal to take that stuff back then if you suffered from cardiac problems. I really doudt cannavaro was suffering from cardiac problems.

Thirdly Moratti shouldn't buy that ass veron after this tape.

Fourthly Cannavaro should be striped of the azzuri captancy.

Fyfthly Inter is a clean club and till underwise proved it will remain so.

We sold kallon when he tested positive even thought he didn't take anything on purpose.

I have suspicion that moratti maybe found out about this canna thing and thats why he got rid of him.

    Good riddance you doper!!
    Forza Inter per sempre!!!!
