    Inter - Juve Report

    Hello Interfriends,

It has been a season of ups and downs. Inter were on a high before christmas winning six straight only to see it all slip away without a win in eleven. The tides are turning once again as Inter win its third straight match in Serie A and do it by beating much hated rivals Juventus by a score of 3-2. The win marks the first time since 1992,93 season that Inter were able to beat Juve in both legs of the championship. Goals by Martins, Vieri and Stankovic were enough to bring home the 3 points and should help give the squad the morale needed for the final phase of this season.

Zaccheroni has stated that the reason for the poor run of form in the new year was due to the mass amount of injuries. With healthy bodies returning he is proving the theory correct as Inter did not look like the scared, fragile team we saw over the past months. With players like Materazzi, C. Zanetti and Almeyda back in the side the team seemed to click again. Zac also helped the cause by finally playing Stankovic in his natural role as advanced midfielder behind the strikers. With Stankovic playing higher up it allowed the midfield an outlet and a link to the strikers.

With Martins using his speed and Vieri moving into different areas of the pitch, Inter put Juve under pressure from the start. Just six minutes in C.Zanetti wins a ball in the midfield, Vieri comes to the top of the box to recieve the pass, plays it through to Stankovic who bursts into the area and feeds the on rushing Martins who puts the ball over Buffon to make it 1-0.

Inter played a great game and were firing on all cylinders in every area of the pitch. Inter was first to every ball, they forced Juve into errors and were basically controlling the game .Lady luck however turned her back once again as Camoranesi runs into the area and with an attempted cross levels the game as Kily heads the ball past Fontana and into his own net to tie the match at 1-1.

Inter reorganize and do not crumble as they have in the past after such an accident. Today the team seemed to rise to the occasion and worked harder to put the game back in there favor. The main point was the pressure that Farinos and C.Zanetti put on the midfield and the ball winning allowed Inter to hold Juve at bay swinging the momentum after the own goal. Near the stroke of half time good linkup play sees the ball played into the box for Stankovic, he side steps Zambrotta and is taken down for the clear penalty. Vieri scores with a left footer right down the middle to make the half time score 2-1.

The second half begins where the first left off as Inter score a third minutes after the restart. Farinos sends in a corner kick that Cordoba heads on and Stankovic running in at the far post slots the ball passed Buffon making it 3-1 and giving Juve the killer blow. Inter take full control and when Almeyda comes on the pitch for Farinos (who played very well) Inter have the central tandem that did so well before christmas and control the midfield and the game until the last second when DiViao gets his goal making it 3-2 in the last second of the match.

The win keeps Inter on pace with Parma and Lazio who also won today. The race for 4th place is still wide open with only 1 point between the three teams but if Inter can play like they did tonight and also regain some more players like Cannavaro and Emre, Inter should do well in the final push and hopefully achieve there two remaining targets of 4th place and the Uefa Cup.
