    French Ligue 1 2014/2015

Even tho almost nobody watches this league, I think I watched more full portugese games than french ones last season, a thread for this could, maybe, motivate people to type more about french players, french clubs and the Ligue.

Valbuena's 28 will be retired in Marseille.

This league is in danger of becoming less competitive with the sales of Monaco. They don't seem to be nearly as involved in the buying portion of the transfer market as they were previously.

Bielsa's Marseille will be a team to watch out for. It's too bad Valbuena never got to play under Bielsa, but OM have many promising youngsters.

I watch PSG's matches. Doesn't matter who the teams are, but watching Ibra is always a joy.

I hate their games, the bias on Arabic beIN is just sickening.

Screw Valbuena, they got Alessandrini. Dude will be light up Ligue 1 this season.
It doesn't get any more serious than a Rhinocerus about to charge your ass.

Problem with ligue 1 is how every single team bar psg and monaco is poor, tho its the only other peague than serie a that i really watch (ol's really the only other team i watch other than inter).

Lyon got screwed over by overspending a few years ago, and have been dependent on their academy (aside from a few young and cheap signings in rose, fofana, malbranque, jallet etc). Garde had been working out well for them, so itll be interesting to see how fournier does. Love their dedication to their academy tho, and aulas is a boss. Think of them of the french atalanta (generally well run, tho lyon has a much better youth academy). Expect to see more of fekir this season, esp if grenier ends up leaving. Benzia is also extremely talented, but is a shithead. Always going for the spectacular vs the simple. Missed two open goal chances in preseason and in an el qualifier

Lille are financially dependent on qualifying for europe, so cash is dry there (they have been massively exceeding expectations in the league for a few years now). Only spent 1.5 million on corchia this summer (iirc he had already signed last january but the federation pulled the plug on the transfer bc of lille being in deep shit financially).

OM has something of a budget, and theyve gone upon the monumental task of creating a borussia dortmund 2.0 in the words of their chairman labrunne. It obviously backfired last season, because the two critical factors in dortmunds success from financial oblivion have been a very progressive and intelligent manager in klopp and amazing dealings in the mercato (that fit in perfectly in klopps system)

OMs manager for the past two years has been Baup, who plays perhaps some of the most boring and uncreative football in france. His mindset is focused on winning, and he doesnt give a shit about how you win, which is arguably more important within the context of a long term project. They massively overperformed in his first season there, but they fell down to earth last year.

With regard to the market, they spent 42 million on players with an average age of 21. Thauvin was bought by lille for 3 million a year ago, but marseille shelled out 15 million just 5 months later. Yes, he had a good season with bastia, but come on. Then they spent 5 on lemina, who played like 10 times for lorient, and 12 million for two ligue 2 players in imbula and mendy. So basically 15 million on second division youngsters.

Then consider that Payet is distinctly average, thauvin's undoubtedly talented but inconsistent, gignac is a shithead, valbuena was injured, morel is a fucking clown, cheyrou is past it, imbula had a rocky year, jordan ayew is a mediocre cunt only playing because of the legacy of his father and the talent of his brother, and anigo is an amateur etc etc, and youve got one hell of a season.

hopefully bielsa will restore some balance in the squad, and alessandrini and michy seem like astute signings, tho im surprised that there havent been any bielsaesque signings so far (eg diaz, isla etc)

Hope pastore finally clicks in at psg without being in a central role. Is in form atm making 2 great assists vs reims and scoring a beauty of a goal vs napoli

has always been one of my favortie players to watch. The class, elegance, touches, vision...

Lyon's my favourite French team so I'll keep an eye out on them. I hope they don't sell Lacazette.
