The person that wrote that doesn't get it. Garfield isn't for everyone, different people have different tastes. Sometimes the mere presence of him makes an ordinary joke funny.
Garfield is the most popular and funniest comic character in my opinion. This says alot, apparently there are those who actually like him. And the fact that he has been around for a while testifies that there is demand on him.
