    Will two-times champion Alexis Sanchez be remembered more than three-times loser Lionel Messi?

    Will two-times champion Gary Medel be remembered more than three-times loser Lionel Messi?
    We are not now that strength which in old days
    Moved earth and heaven; that which we are, we are;
    One equal temper of heroic hearts,
    Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
    To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

    While I agree to an extent that mostly champions are remembers, teams that male the final deserve the credit too. Everyone rightfully considers Simeone's CL runs a huge aucess despite him never winning it.

    It works in a funny way. Cristiano Ronaldo will be remember for winning the CL through his winning penalty despite him not doing much in the game.

    I consider Mascherano a brilliant player for Argentina despite not winning anything. His performances over the World Cup and Copa America final were amazing. Unfortunately most people won't remember that since he's a defensive player. Goetze gets a lot of credit for the World Cup win and he deserves it ad he scored the winning goal, but not as many people might remember Scweinsteiger's MOM performance.

    ridiculous. I never said anything about being remembered. As others have mentioned being remembered/winning the final is not necessarily the same as having played well. Ronaldo/Gotze/Medel are good examples. Dragging to your team to the final IS an achievement, it's not like failing to win the final erases what happened in the previous six games.

    As far as I am concerned it does. You play tournaments to win, getting to the final and losing it is the same as going out in the first round, you go home with nothing.

    In terms of international football yes. Messi will be remembered all right in terms in international football, as the so called greatest player who failed to win or score in 3 finals...Baggio is remembered as the great player who fluffed his lines when it really mattered...
    Forza Inter per sempre!!!!

    So that must explain why nobody remembers empty-handed failures like Cruyff and Puskas, and yet every French fan still celebrates the trophy-winning skills of 1998 World Cup champion Stephane Guivarch.
