If it took more years for Juve to reach this level of success (also financially they are far above us), why do some people think Inter just need 1 good year to return to the top?

Next season will mirror this one we just had.

Yep, also Roma has been weakened quite a lot, lost a starting defender in Rudiger for the beginning of the season and sold arguably their biggest asset - Pjanic, to no other than Juve; Naingolan is also likely to follow. Napoli are surely going to be robbed of Higuain, who would gladly welcome some EPL action. He's frankly hard to replace for them. Fiorentina are Fiorentina and Milan are even shittier than us, Chinese bringing Pellegrini in or not. Things are looking just fine for Juve, after getting their hands on Pjanic and Alves, and having enough money to spend on whatever player they need.

Well, look at Leicester. They've shown there is a way of beating not one powerhouse, but 5 or 6. And the difference in quality between us and Rube is smaller than between Leicester and City/Utd/Gunners/Chelsea etc Also, look at Simeone, Klopp, they all managed to pull of some pretty spectacular feats over the previous years on a budget. I mean, I too feel Rube are out of reach, and have been for a while now, but there are convincing enough cases of teams giving zero fucks about other big teams having more and thrashing them left and right. Leicester's season e.g. feels like this to me.

I don't know what Inter needs to become like that. My point is sometimes usual formulas rich clubs are employing can be pretty impotent. So the rout Rube is taking might not work out.

I thought the latest news was that Nainggolan extended with Roma, and that Higuain was going to do so with Napoli. Roma needed to sell someone to meet the parameters of FFP. It's done now so they won't be nearly as inclined to let their other top players leave unless a crazy offer comes in.

Leicester was 5000/1 odds to win the premiership and considered by a lot of bookies to be the single greatest sporting success in history. If thats where we have to draw our inspiration from, we're fucked.

Not at all. Everyone will be drawing inspiration from Leicester. There's no shame in that. The important thing is if they can sustain there success. Which I doubt.

I don't want Inter to ignore what's happening around them. Leicester, Simeone, Klopp etc all beat some pretty incredible odds. Rube is developing into an established powerhouse, but Real and Barca in the case of Simeone's Atletico, Bayern in the case of Klopp's Dortmund, or the whole EPL elite in the case of Leicester were ALREADY established overlords of their respective leagues. And then they lost. Therefor, Rube can as well. Pjanic or no Pjanic, it's up to Inter to find a way.

Yeah. And it takes years of patience, and dedication to do it. Leicester is a one off and will never happen again in the next 50 years in any top league. We need to build a stable platform and develop. The team that dropped 2 points out of like 18? Fucking matches last season is not suddenly becoming shit overnighr

I don't think any one here is saying Juve are going to suddenly turn to shit over night. I think the argument more is it is possible to build a stronger team. You could say we've been building for a few years already. Our team is much much better than that of 2-3 seasons a go. If we had a really good transfer window now, I really don't think its that far of a stretch to think we could win the league. We have a good base, if we added 1-3 very good players its possible. Again, we dont have to have a better team than Juve, but a consistent side.

Although in saying this, I would rather build for another 2-3 seasons, then challenge strongly and consistently every season, rather than do a Dortmund or Leicester

Me too, but whoever beats Rube will do a Leicester/Atletico/Dortmund that season.

Whereas I think np matter how good this window is there is still no chance we can win the league. Even if we signed pogba and cuadrado and Ibrahimovic

So by that theory Juve will be Champions forever?

Until the other sides get their act together. I think once Roma has their stadium built and have a shirt sponsor etc they'll be able to compete on the regular

Indeed. For us we need at bare minimum the revenue boost of owning our own stadium and a bunch of new commercials or being in the CL. With that unlocking say 50 to 80 million extra we can actually start to afford to buy players who are really good again. Even in the most aggressive from where we are now being in the CL at the end of this season I don't see less than a 2 year path for solid foundations.

I think Shaun has a semi-good point about owning a stadium. All black swans like Leicester winning the league, or Atletico, or Dortmund, all those teams own their stadiums. In that sense we are in very bad situation.

But to claim there is no chance or that we shouldn't learn from those rare events is unjustified. The difference between Inter and Rube is not insurmountable. Even now. That's how teams get stuck with bad coaches.

Owning your own stadium isn't the difference between winning and losing the league. That's an awfully false correlation. It would make a difference for us because we need the 30 or 40 mil a year additional it could bring us. We could possibly win the league by being in the CL- or at least the revenue wild definitely make us much more competitive

Yeah, I think so too, it's only a part of the solution. I think the biggest part is in recruitment and on the training ground. How much was Dele Alli, or Kante, or Mahrez when their teams first got them? There are many ways to close the gap, not just by being filthy rich. It's the easiest way, I get it, but not the only way.

It is interesting though to see when was the last time a team from top leagues which didn't own their stadium won a league? In EPL maybe Blackburn 25+ years ago? Only Italian teams. Maybe French, but I don't know who owned Gerland when Lyon dominated.

Well only to some extent. If we ignore the fluke that is Leicester it typically is clubs who spend on expensive players who do the best. Which is no surprise.

It's not that owning a stadium is key for continuous success, it is the financial well being of a club. And owning a stadium is perhaps the most effective way in achieving that for Inter, considering how bad the state of Serie A is and the appeal of it to outsiders.
