Lukaku destroyed our wage structure then getting Vidal and Sanchez who no one else wanted didn’t help matters. On top of Eriksen being such a massive flop for us

Lukaku is a star player but still wasn’t wanted by his club and 3rd to 4th choice. We could have gotten him cheaper potentially. The wages were crazy high. Maybe if we just gave Icardi his raise we would have done better and not had that werid situation 2 seasons ago + sold him for so cheap. Good question. At the moment I would say De Ligt is better deffender and Bastoni is better moving the ball forward. They have different abilities. At the moment, I would say De Ligt is better overall, but Bastoni will eventually outgrow him. The potential for Bastoni is huge, for De Ligt not so much.

De Ligt is ahead in terms of development defensively but pure defensive CBs are far less precious than good offensive ones. Bastoni is a far more valuable player than De Ligt. I would maybe even dare to say that Bastoni is a defensive midfielder trapped into a body of a CB.

I do rate De Ligt but ultimately I see him as Skriniar with a birth defect.

Bastoni is more valuable because his salary is less than 10th of De Ligt's salary. Ability wise De Ligt is better for sure and he's a true leader at that age (was captain at Ajax).
