That highlight reel of Moscardelli (update: 5 million views, here they come) surely belongs in this thread.
He's retro, after all, by vocation and definition.
By the way, Pisa will feature in the Serie C playoff, starting today with the first game of a two-legged derby toscano against Carrarese.
And it will be retro time with Mosca, Ciccio Tavano and Big Mac Maccarone among the others (sitting on the bench or walking on the pitch).

Cutolo too can be listed as a fetish among Serie B/C players, and legitimately so, considering that left foot of his.
The second goal in that compilation, the one he scored for Padova at the Stadio Bentegodi in the derby veneto versus Verona (his former team), is worthy of a mention because it holds particular meaning, on multiple levels.
A story of sweet revenge against the tifosi scaligeri for the little man from Naples.

Branco --> Skurahvy and Pato Aguilera --> “Bring back attacking duos”, to create a topical association of ideas.

Since I'm at it with the references, one of the most meaningful examples of players who had to make “gavetta” (literally, “mess tin”) in lower leagues until very late in their career, before getting an opportunity in Serie A (and absolutely nailing it, in his case, at 30 or something) will always be Dario “Tatanka” Hubner.
A bison on the pitch and a triestino “made with an axe” out of it.
All while behaving in spite of all the rhetoric concerning the healthy life of an athlete: plenty of cigarettes (including one at halftime), glasses of wine when it was the right time and a shot of grappa once in a while (or a bit more frequently).
If all the eyes were on Ronaldo before Inter-Brescia 1997/98 (and, by extension, on the first Italian defender who had to mark him, Savino, with various interviews and dedicated profiles), Darione could have ruined the party and made the headlines on Monday with his own debut in "la massima serie"... if it weren't for Moratti's pupil making the entrance.
Later, when significantly older, Hubner became Serie A top scorer with Piacenza, and all the convenient whatifs (regarding national team and top clubs) romantically added to his well-deserved legend.

The most famous of them all is Toto Schillaci. Lega Pro/Serie B player that Juventus snatched for their first team and ended up top goalscorer of the World Cup within 13 months.

Milan thought they'd repeat this with Lapadula

Random throwback between the English EL final and the English CL final, and with a context: we laughed as kids in Italy, sons of our time back in the early 90s, watching “Calcio Inglese” (montages of comical plays and Caveman-style football from England - the newborn Premier League and the First Division - that aired during the satirical tv football program “Mai Dire Gol”), but we also had fetishes and we romanticized certain players from “Across the Channel”.

Matthew “Le God” Le Tissier deserves a mention for many. Certified retro.

That was indeed a sad day/day-after, for both the verdeoro people and us interisti (from the controversial reports that came along with the starting line-up against France, Ronaldo out, no, Ronaldo back in, the actual final, the shell of il Fenomeno with his Nike Mercurial boots tied with laces around his neck during the award ceremony... to the return flight and the way Ronaldo went down the stairs of the airplane).

A World Cup that should have ended on a “high note” for Brazil, after the memorable semifinal against Holland.
And the preparation had already started on the highest note possible (Romario as the intruder, sadly and in hindsight):

As journalist Franco Rossi would have said talking about the prestigious history of World Cup finals, “may the best team [better of the two] lose” (as it happens often enough, for internal and external factors).

On topic, extended highlights of a mandatory game from France 98 (among others):

It's Copa America time now. The following video won't be from that tournament but a year after an epic final were Brazil beat Argentina in PKs. This is the "I wish this was the Copa America final" game.

One of the most dominant games I've seen from Brazil. Remember that I watched it with friends as we were celebrating a birthday and I was the only one supporting Brazil (not that I didn't like Argentina or anything).

Before Barcelona was UEFAlona, here's the deciding semi final of the 2001 Uefa Cup. Liverpool wins 1-0 with an extremely harsh PK decision right before half time and gets the 1-0 aggreggate score to beat Alaves in the final (who we fucked up against in the round of 16 at home, also despite leading by 3-1 away... Thanks for the memories of the 2001 season Marcello Lippi)

No videos but a picture this time

This is the Uruguay National Team of the 1924 Olympic Games. A significant tournament as it signalled the world that South American football exists and Uruguay has shunned the world being the only South American team to participate there and the rest were almost exclusively European (for those who don't know, Egypt was playing and was considered part of 'European sports' until the late 50s, they even have won the Eurobasket once). Uruguay went on to win the Olympic Games. And the next ones. Those were the biggest football events in the world. And it was also this reason why Uruguay was chosen to host the first World Cup in 1930. And win it. Their victory in 1950 in Brazil gave them the 4th star they have on their jersey. Two for the Olympics and two for the World Cups.

The picture is from an old woman's home that was hosted them since they found the Olympic accommodation underwhelming. They just went there and she was kind enough to let them stay over.

P.S: Some keen eyed people will notice that Vecino is there. It just means neighbor In this case, proximity to the district of Colombes just north of modern Paris. The woman's last name was Pain, which means bread in French

Considered by many as one of the best Euro games of all time, for some the best, here is the 1984 Euro semi-final between France and Portugal.

Enjoy the highlights with the typical European vuvuzela sounds of the 80s and early 90s

European Cup final 1972. Our 4th EC final (we lost the 1967 one to Celtic after the back-to-back ones)

This is the next back-to-back team, Ajax, who have won the 1971 European Cup final against Panathinaikos at Wembley.

Inter here has the chance to win the 3rd European Cup and become the #2 power in European football behind Real Madrid and their 6 trophies, but instead we have been sidelined to history as Ajax wins their 2nd and later on proceeded to win a 3rd in a row.

Video for the short attention span people coming right up, short highlight film:

Extended clip here. Watch how Gabriele Oriali man marks Johan Cruyff, featuring Mazzola, Facchetti, Jair and Boninsegna among others.

Anyone who wants the full match, it is here:

Amazing what that duo could have achieved if Adriano was right in his head. Thankfully Mourinho showed us a glimpse of that.

One of my favorite players, one of the most underrated players of the 90s. His fault for choosing to play in Japan for almost a decade of course.
