Barcelona director of football, Eric Abidal, on Lautaro:

He [Martinez] is a complete player. I think he’s playing at a very good level.

He is a player we are aware of and we know of his quality, but there are also other players with these same characteristics.

Fuck them. Just tie him to a new contract and be done with it. Remove the release clause and maybe add few juicy bonuses to his deal or something. This guy is a keeper.

I don't think that's true. We've had a few players who have been highest paid in the world.

It's not true, anymore, is more accurate.

If we're aiming higher and want to keep Cunte we will have to afford high salaries, and astronomical salaries in 2-3 years at least.

    Not at the moment,

This is why the club needs to progress to increase the revenue. Building image, new stadium and all..

It is a bumpy road, but it is more possible under sunning.

It will be great if we can build a new stadium in san siro, otherwise we have to move somewhere else in milan

I'm actually starting to wonder whether it is that simple. Wasn't this what we were meant to do with Icardi before it all turned to shit?

I think the prospect of Barcelona being interested in a footballer and the possibility of players teaming up with Lionel Messi are a great lure and attraction for any footballer. However, some players find that when they actually move there, the pressure and expectations to perform are greater than they ever imagined. I am not saying this would be the case with Martinez, but it is undoubtedly something that a player would have to weigh up before deciding to go there. Sometimes, a player's reality does not match their dream.

What bothers me most about these reports is that they totally ignore Inter and the will of the club. A short time ago, there were reports that the club was looking to meet with Martinez's agent to discuss a renewal. I am not sure if I am mistaken but I remember reading in one report that talks would happen early in the new year. Personally, with the way he is playing, I feel Inter should be trying to have those talks sooner rather than later. And if they are going to have the talks later, the club should leave absolutely no doubt about its intentions to extend Martinez's contract. The buzz around him and the continued links to Barcelona are disconcerting and Inter need to be pro-active in relation to how they manage things.

I would like to think that where Inter as a club is different to where we were a year ago or two years ago, both financially and as a team with the appointment of Conte. I would also like to think that the club has learned from what happened with Icardi. I do not know what went on behind the scenes in terms of contract offers to Icardi and how much was actually offered but Inter cannot afford to delay or sit on their hands in the belief that it will get done in time when the likes of Barcelona have acknowledged they are interested in the player. The reason I am saying this is because delays and silence do not send the right message to any player, let alone one of our best performing starters, when it comes to contract negotiations.

The only other thoughts I have are that if the club is going to offer an extension, they should offer to pay what he is worth and not be tight arsed about it otherwise we risk losing him. The way Inter deal with with Martinez's extension as a club will be telling because it is a signal of intent. Is the club going to sell it's best players or will his renewal be an indication of the club's ambition to keep growing and be competitive.

Personally, given his growth as a player, the fact that he is still young as well as the way he conducts himself as a professional, I can not see Inter letting him go without a fight. I also do no think that Conte would be very happy if we were to lose a player that has been crucial to our fortunes this season and has great potential for the future. I have specifically mentioned Conte because I would imagine that just as he would get pissed about management not fulfilling promises and acquiring the players he wants, I also imagine that he would be equally dissatisfied if the club sold its best players.

Well, the player does have to agree to a new contract.

Just end giving those release clauses. 100m€ is a lot but it's not an exaggeration these days so we shouldn't put ourselves in a position where we can't control our future. If we want to give release clauses (agent demand) they need to be at the level Juve gave to De Ligt, että which was 150m€ after 3 years of service. Obviously for strikers those numbers should be higher generally.

I think release clauses are there to give agents leverage to extend their clients' contract, it's not as if contracts are worth anything these days tbh.

Not that it makes huge difference but Lautaro release clause is 111m, not 100m.

And that's the most worrisome thing with Marotta. When a player expressed the desire to leave the club, Marotta tried to sell him to the highest bidder instead of forcing him to stay. At least that was the case at Juve. Next summer will be a very interesting one in order to realise management and ownership vision for the club.

Real shame if he leaves in the summer, as he's looking like he's going to absolute explode this year. Hopefully we can at least up the release clause if he does want to move to Barca.

I'm not too fussed about it, as it'll be a shit-ton of money for us and we all know Marotta can use money well. The only problem I'm foreseeing is that there's really not too many players with Lautaro's attributes who are relatively young. Maybe we'll splash on quality wingers and move to a 3-4-3 instead, who knows.

Guys don't be scared, we have money now. We are a young team on the rise with stable coaching and management. We can match or better any salary offer up until the point it becomes ridiculous and not worth it.

Yeah didn't remember was it 105 or 110, so just said general 100 (and it ended up being none of these).

I think it's just fine. If player wants to go, it is usually something else than what can be fixed with money. I mean money can fix some issues but that is probably not the root issue. Like there is hardly cases where player was offered like double-salary elsewhere and Marotta can't raise his current salary to if not match, then at least come closer to the offered salary by another club.

For example if Lautaro is offered 10m€ net by Barcelona, then we can say that he can go. If it's something around 5m€ we can probably come to some kind of agreement. But the root issue is probably not a salary IF player really wants to leave the club. Only players mentally invested to the project are the players we need. Players who are persuaded to stay only because of the money, not a good receipt for success in the long-term. Works for short-term, like one year, "show-me season" before you can go for mega club for mega fee, but not for long-term.

Won the penalty that tied it up for Argentina yesterday with a nice backheel touch on to Caceres' hand.

Other highlight of the game was Godin trying to murder Dybala with a sliding tackle
