Can someone name all these open goal/easy misses starting from that PSV game?

Lautaro had a few already, Icardi a couple, there's Candreva's recent miss, then there's Vecino today, probably a couple of more players... It's becoming a trend.

We showed signs of improvement today, especially in the second half. Some of the players who have so far been disappointing - namely Nainggolan and Perisic - stepped up their game, and our build-up play benefited from it. It's no coincindence, however, that the goal came only after we subbed a second striker in. Watching Inter attack is often like hearing a good joke that sounds promising but never gets to the punchline. And that's because we leave Icardi too isolated inside the box, where he's constantly man-marked (and shut up) by the CBs. Spalletti must understand that we need more men inside the box (not around it) when we attack if we want to increase our chances of unlocking the defences. It's not Lautaro for Icardi, it's Lautaro and Icardi.

Actually was going to write before this game that we should switch to 4-3-1-2 in the league. That's what worked with Mou and Leo back in the day. With a 4231/433, we rely on wingers to create chances, and that ain't happening. 40,000 potshot crosses/season is not how you reach CL. Plus we have 1 less midfielder. It'll make us more sus defensively, especially on the wings, but we need to score more than 1 goal in 4 games, and our defence can handle itself.

With 2 strikers up top, Icardi takes the pressure off Martinez, and Martinez takes the pressure off Icardi. Much easier to score. That's how Lautaro scored. Icardi made a run, gave him space, and he took it. With 4231/433 you have like 4 dudes marking Icardi and isolated wingers desperately booting it in the box.

Easy to defend against 4312 when your wide players are shit/slow and your amf is not very creative. We just need players in the box, perisic doesn't have to stay wide
The whole 90 minutes, he shouldn't.

First match I've been able to watch so far this year and ultimately I was just happy we got out of there with 3 points on the board. We had so many good periods of attacking play but absolutely no cutting edge in the final third. This game made it clear as day that Lautaro needs to play alongside Icardi, we finally saw a little bit of space in the box once defenders had both of them to worry about instead of ganging up on Icardi. We were fortunate that Parma were even worse in front of goal than our boys were, That's for sure.

Heh, i've been slaughtered for suggesting this should be our target from summer and on.

At the moment we cannot pull this off with players like Perisic and Politano on the team. And that also means that we will not have a creative guy and we'll end up using Nainggolan as a trequarista again, with one of Vecino and Gagliardini starting. That's a no no really.

We used to have the same issues with Mancini and that team's midfield was top class compared to this one with Stankovic, Cambiasso, Vieira/Dacourt, Solari ocassionally or Cesar and also Figo. There's a lack of creativity there and while a solid midfield can get you past the smaller teams 9 out of 10 games, you will have trouble against the big teams that have more than 2 ways of successful attacking.

Initially we need to transition to a 4-4-2 with Icardi up front with a rotation of Lautaro and Keita until we get some new central midfielders, eg Barella and creative AMs, like James, a cheaper version could be De Paul or even someone versatile like SMS who could pull off the creative role and also be used further back and in rotation with Radja.

It's one thing to go with a 4-3-1-2 of Nainggolan, Brozovic, Barella + Milinkovic-Savic and another to go with a Vecino, Brozovic, Joao Mario + Nainggolan Plus, unfortunately our major asset offensively still remains Ivan Perisic and we cannot slot him anywhere in that formation, not even as a trequartista. So if the plan is to sell him, it'd be wiser to go for two solid central midfielders, since we're already going for one, instead of going for 3-4 new wingers to accommodate this formation we're currently not utilizing very well in the 4-2-3-1.

4-3-1-2 in the league, 4-3-3 in CL. That was the case in 2010, it worked with the fallbacks we had in the day, Maicon and even Zanetti's dribbles were most decisive when we were short of solutions up front. As Brehme explained, we require better players for anything to work properly.

Looking back at this thread, these are the most repetitive lines: "Vecino " " Vecino LOL" "Vecino "

For a 4-3-1-2 we need better fullbacks. It doesn't work with our personal. It imply also letting Perisic out.

Why doesn't Perisic drible past his oponent on the wings anymore? He used to do it (let's say 2 years ago) but now he just crosses.

You gotta wonder if we're just cursed to watch boring games.

Just watching the highlights back, this could have easily ended something like 4-2. Between Gervinho hitting the bar, Inglese fucking a header up, D'Ambrosio with his hand (), Vecino being Vecino (), and Brozovic hitting the post this could have been a scorcher of a game.

But nah, 1-0. I'll take it.

The Candreva of Lazio and the one we've had here are also very different. One does have to question what exactly it is that kills their attacking instincts

I dont think its pressure or only pressure. At Lazio Candreva wasnt always required to hug the touchline and keep crossing inanely for the whole game.He used to score quite a few goals at Lazio and i do remember him doing well taking shots on the counter. It could be that he lost his pace with age but its also definitely our tactics where we just want to keep feeding Icardi with these crosses and the wingers are surely not free to do more.
