Yep, last one being won almost a century ago in the 1923–24 season.

    James leaning away from Napoli
    By Football Italia staff

Multiple reports now suggest James Rodriguez and Real Madrid are leaning towards Atletico Madrid, as Napoli won’t buy him outright.

President Aurelio De Laurentiis stated openly that he has no intention of purchasing James in one cash sum, preferring to take the Colombia international on loan with option to buy.

This irritated Real Madrid, who had until then been eager to sell abroad rather than reinforce their direct Liga and city rivals.

Now several Spanish and Italian papers, along with CalcioNapoli24, note James feels unappreciated by Napoli too and is ready to accept a less stressful transfer to Atletico Madrid.

The asking price is €42m and Real Madrid would be prepared to take a loan with obligation to buy at the end of the season.

However, De Laurentiis remains adamant he wants no guarantee of purchase.

On top of that, there is another reason why James is ready to walk away from Napoli, which is they are refusing to match the salary he currently earns at Real Madrid, whereas Atleti would keep it at the same level.

According to the latest reports, Real Madrid have given Napoli until Thursday to close the deal or they'll start Atletico Madrid talks instead.

I think Napoli is a better fit for James right now because they will build the team around him more and Ancelotti likes him. Cholo will probably end up benching him after he fails to track back. Atlético also just bought Joao Felix who is going to play the SS position which i think would be the best fit for James if he went there.

Yeah, it's a bit hard to see Atletico buying James. Or, maybe they will just for the hell of it, but James might be disappointed after realizing he's not playing every match. On the other hand, banking on Joao Felix alone is a bit risky move?

If they get James they will surely sell Lemar. There is no way Lemar can play minutes with Joao Felix and James in the squad.

Liverpool only sold 1 player who has significant importance in the team. They sold players that were not required. On the other hand, Roma has a garage sale.

Liverpool sold Suarez and Coutinho. Smart moves.

I don't think it's the same selling 3 starters in the last 5 years (Suarez, Sterling, Coutinho) with selling almost the entire lineup in just two years.

Their smart move was hiring Klopp. They had sold Suarez and Sterling but you can't say they had used the funds of their sales well with getting players like Balotelli, Markovic and Benteke. They started making smart signings only after Klopp was hired. Even Firmino didn't have much of an impact under Rodgers.

Of course is an exaggeration between Roma and Liverpool. Liverpool sold 3 players for more than 250m dollars (Suarez, Sterling and Coutinho). All of them extremely important. Roma indeed was a supermarket.
With Sabatini Roma also sold nearly every year one of their best players (Lamela, Benatia, Marquinhos, Pjanic) and invested in "promising" players. With this strategy they were second in Serie A, record of points and fought with Juve until the last day. Not to mentioned he made that under Settlement agreement (our biggest nightmare) and with Spalletti as a conductor. Have they kept that squad and with a coach like Murinho, Ancelotti or Conte, they would have had a real chance to dethrone Juventus. Unfortunately for them Sabatini left, Monchi came and they became the supermarket.

Anyway, my analogy to Liverpool was only as an example! There are more than one way to build a great team. None is good or bad by default. It is essential who and how he execute that strategy! The only exceptions are the PSGs and Citys who can buy whoever they want, whenever they want, without giving a fuck!

Liverpool have their eyes on trophies. Roma have theirs on the bank account.

Not long ago Roma had a really strong team that could really have been a powerhouse in european football not just Italy had they just kept it together and improved on it.

    Szczesny
    Florenzi - Rudiger - Manolas - Digne
Nainggolan - De Rossi - Strootman
    Pjanic
    Salah - Dzeko

Was their starting line up that season. The following season even though Pjanic left, they still finished second. The irony is that after this summer, only 3 years later, only Florenzi remains in the club If Dzeko ends up moving to inter. Instead of building on that and buying the players to improve on that squad which was so close to being as good if not better than Juve, they decided to sell all their players.

    Not necessarily related.

LM is Lemar and Saul, although Cholo likes to play Saul as a CM as well. James would play either RM or SS. Neither of these overlaps with Lemar.

Not too long ago, we were arguing between Lozano or Bergwijn or Chiesa and Jovic and Eriksen. Those were simpler times.

Now its Lukaku and Dzeko and Vidal. I understand the advantages of having someone like Conte at helm, but he sure wants to spend a ton of money on not so exciting players. If this project fails, we will end up losing a lot of money and still ending up with an average squad.

Roma's issue is lack of revenue. People can laugh at them for being a selling team as much as they want, but without a stadium they'll keep selling. And powers that be in Rome do not seem to care about that

So far we bought two of the best, if not the best Italian midfielders available and Lazaro. And it's not like Lukaku won't have any suitors, even after two-three seasons, he's 26 for gods sake. And last but not least we need more strikers and Dzeko for a fair price is a pretty good option to have. All in all its not like Conte filled the squad with Moses', Cantdrevas and Vecinos... Oh wait.

Anyhow, Bergwijn/Lozano/Chiesa just don't have room in his 352 it seems so we're after SSs and STs.
