Weak lead without any possibility to keep the ball is a disaster situation to bring Gags in. Conte wanted to defend the lead and for Conte, Gagliardini is defensively better than Sensi. That's true in isolation. Gagliardini can tackle from time to time, he's better in physical duels and he obviously wins far more headers than Sensi ever will.
But it boggles the mind that Conte doesn't seem to recognize the root cause or context surrounding the issue. It's exactly as you say - we're defending because we can't hold the fucking ball at all. Sensi would've allowed us to retain the ball and relieve pressure so much better that we wouldn't have even needed to defend so much in the first place.
Of course, if the cunt is injured again, then Conte can't do much. But if Sensi was fit but unused vs Samp and Roma for "tactical" reasons, then Conte can go fuck himself.
That said, I have a feeling that Sensi's fitness is like a fucking graph of the stock exchange or the dollar exchange rate - every now and again it peaks above a certain conversion rate, and then he's fit to play, but the rest of time he's just various, fluctuating degrees of unfit or injured.
