Also, good thing is that the tempo of the game was not too much exhausting and extra time was not needed. Both us and Fiorentina need some energy for the weekend. They are playing Juve.

EPL is a number 1 league right now, just look how easy and fast their player adapt to serie A, the quality of their player though, thank God Conte have experience from EPL he just knew if he want to win serie A he just have to buy player from EPL

I really like what I've seen from his 2 games so far. He's quick, tireless, and does everything expected from a wing back. Plays with the intention of making something happen and isn't afraid of making forward passes and taking his opponents on. Seems to have a knack of getting into decent goal scoring positions too (but mostly ignored or overlooked by team mates). In short, highly effective and reliable. Easily an upgrade over fucking Biraghi who shits his pants whenever he is required to move the ball forward.

Anyway, watched the 2nd half just now as I had to go to work at half time.

Defence & WB's - Ranocchia and Bastoni were fine but I felt Godin was the best of the 3 CB's. Hopefully he can keep up this level. Young looked pretty good again. It's clear that his fitness is at a high level despite his age. Candreva did his job, but he's still looking a little flimsy for my liking these days. He doesn't seem to possess that same clarity or aggression going forward that he did earlier in the season.

Midfield - Barella easily man of the match, even before the goal. He recovered tons of balls in midfield and did a good job with distribution. He was the one keeping things tight during that poor first half. Thankfully he's hit a great level after a handful of ordinary matches following his return from injury. Vecino was good from about the 30th minute onwards.

I guess I have to include Sanchez in midfield for today. I appreciate the difficulty of his position but it wasn't a good game at all. He played like a winger or SS in terms of his intentions to receive a forward pass, hold up the ball and make plays. However, there was never enough space or time for him to achieve that playing centrally in midfield. That, and he was also constantly a step too slow.

Good of him to drop deep often but overall he lost the ball way too much in the opponents half and was generally lacking in sharpness, which is to be expected following his long layoff. I don't think he's a solution at AM in a 3412. Hopefully Conte won't waste time on that experiment again and will just play him as a forward. We need a better performance from him at Udine and against Milan who are in a good patch of form.

Forwards - The thing with Lautaro is, he's so direct and trigger-happy all of the time. The only variable seems to be whether he's in form or not. IMO when his form fluctuates slightly, his efficiency follows suit. "El Toro" is a fitting nickname because when he's on form he tears through opponents but when he's not, he's like a bull in a china shop - chaotic and lacking composure and poise. As for Lukaku, did he even have a shot today? Overall I thought both forwards were barely average. 6/10 if I'm being generous.

Subs & Coach - I think Conte made the right subs. We need every available body in the squad to be contributing when called upon so it was good of him to get Eriksen and Moses in the mix so soon. I think both of them and Esposito did fine in the short periods they were on.

Overall this game was a turd, but a small step in the right direction. I still want more in terms of hands-on, tactical management from Conte. I read a stat that since 2012, we have never won more than ONE league game in January with the exception of the 16/17 season. This season was a repeat of that dogshit trend and we only won 1 league game out of 4 in Jan. We did win 2 Coppa Italia games though so let's carry on that momentum for Christ's sake.

Also, I read that de Vrij, Skriniar and D'Ambrosio are suffering from "flu-like symptoms"..? individual training for those cunts, please.

Eriksen showed some good signs but Vecino and Barella I think were the stars in midfield in the second half, Vecino wreaked havoc running into space I think Conte gave them a good kick up the backside at half time.

I dont think Sanchez should be playing in the slot behind the strikers but that role should be filled by Eriksen and hopefully Sanchez will have a nice home coming against Udinese.

Bastoni is fantastic but he does make some mistakes which may sometimes cost us, Ranocchia became an adult.

We didn't play great. Just because we won everyone seems happy.
But in fact, we were clueless how to attack when Fiorentina defended with 11 men. Our wings were isolated and with the 2 midfielders we looked weak and insecure.
Conte needs to work on this.
Inter clueless management with no strategy and wasting tons of money. every year, again and again

I don’t know if this was mentioned but I think for the first time in a while under Conte where we look much better in the second half than we did in the first half. Hope that continues.

Vecino also played well which supports my theory about him and Gagliardini and how in small doses they are actually good players and should be bench players not starters. He gets hate like he was Candreva 2018

A few random considerations about yesterday's game.
First of all, I'd say the trequartista experiment failed miserably. In his post-match interview, Conte explained that he basically had to come up with it because there were only two midfielders available. But even so, the lack of coordinated movements, along with the sluggishness with which we circulated the ball in Fiorentina's half, rendered us toothless against their 9-men defence. Candreva's goal, as proven by its chaotic and quite random build up, was the exception rather than the rule. Alexis showed commitment, but he's still too rusty to offer us a tangible contribution, even more so if he's asked to play in a position/system he's not familiar with. I expect this formation to be tested again somewhere along the road, but I suspect it will be with either Eriksen or Sensi occupying the AM spot.

Lautaro was energetic as usual, but lacked a bit of composure inside the box. Anyway, a striker with his set of skills and his never-give-up attitude always poses a threat to the opposing defence, even on a bad day like yesterday. And his involvement on both of our goals proves it.

Lukaku is tired and could use some rest. Yesterday's game, though, was further confirmation that Conte sees him as an irreplaceable cog in his tactical mechanism. If he's fit, he will play. Which is why I don't agree with the management's choice of not signing Giroud (or a player of his ilk) in this mercato. People say there's Alexis and young Esposito as fourth striker. We are covered. I say let's see how many games they will start till the end of the season. Also, some suggest we should just ditch the EL and focus exclusively on the league. Complete madness. First, it's the loser's way of thinking. Second, other teams (Napoli) have already threaded that path and ended up with nothing to show for it. Third, we need those sexy UEFA coefficient points if we don't want to get stuck forever in pot 3.

The most positive aspect of yesterday's game was Barella's return to his pre-injury levels of performance. Aside from the usual stuff (ball recoveries, tireless runs, etc...), he had a composed and competent display in a position he had never occupied before. What an amazing talent! Eriksen made his debut for Inter. He didn't do anything spectacular, as it was to be expected, but he immediately found a good chemistry with Barella.

    Exhibit #1

As Marotta said after the game (or was it before?), we should be aiming to constantly increase the average quality of the roster. Vecino was surprisingly good on his return after all the mercato rumours. Could the fear of getting shipped to England have finally drilled some tactical acumen into his brain? Let's hope so, but I need more of this before I change my mind.

Candreva scored the opener, which naturally goes to his credit considering the game was stuck at a stalemate, and delivered a couple of good crosses. However, he was once again protagonist of one of his trademark brainfarts, basically setting Vlahovic on a 1vs1 against Handanovic, who came to his rescue and saved us from the 1-2. Young was solid throughout the game. I liked how he was one of the few players to try to make things happen in the first half, notably being our only player to take on Fiorentina defenders. Some of his through balls went wayward, but at least he tried to shake things down a bit. Moses made his debut, but wasn't particularly involved on either end.

The defence had little job to do against an eager but ultimately ineffective Vlahovic and an extremely disappointing (as usual) Chiesa. I really hope we aren't seriously considering him as the main target for our summer campaign. Godin and Ranocchia pretty much coasted it, whereas Bastoni was more involved in the build up, but also committed a couple of mistakes in distributing the ball.

Not a easy match yesterday. It was clear that Fiorentina wanted to win this Cup after beating Atalanta. First half their defence stopped everything and they had dangerous counters with Vhlalovic and Chiesa. While we started very slow. Second half we played much better. A deserved win at the end, Fiorentina was not easy to beat as expected. Juve and Milan had a much easier job (and Milan still made it to almost lose )
