Sensi was the best midfielder in the league for about 4 weeks. Fuck man, September-October seems so long ago.

No. Sensi hasn't showed much in a longer period of time. Barella has shown lore but hasn't showed anything in international state. Eriksen's pedigree from EPL and CL is st completely different level.

Christian Eriksen needs to do three things to improve himself and kick start his Inter career according to a report in today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport.

Eriksen joined the club in a €20 million deal from Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur in the January transfer window but has so far failed to live up to expectations and has taken quite some time to adapt to his new surroundings.

    1. The first thing Gazzetta believe the Danish national team midfielder must do is improve his fitness to the levels he was at at Spurs prior to his condition worsening near the end of his spell when he found himself in and out of the team.

    2. Secondly, Eriksen must change the approach he has so far had with Italian football [I agree he sometimes seemed to lack sense of urgency/determination]

    3. Finally he must learn all the secrets behind being the perfect mezzala in a 3-5-2 system as Inter manager Antonio Conte will not be changing from his tried and tested system.

I think finding a home and learning italian should also be on the priority list, it`s not the ideal scenario to live in a hotel.

Eriksen forced to a mezzala role is just facepalm-stuff.

^^ Inter legend Beppe Bergomi seems to agree with you Cafe:

“Eriksen, on the other hand, finds little room in a 3-5-2 in my opinion. Under this aspect Conte had some difficulties, in order to enhance him we could change the formation to a 3-4-1-2, personally I would keep a 3-man defense anyway.

I would try to adapt myself to Eriksen, in order to enhance him. I can see him well behind the strikers, he has also sacrificed himself as a mezzala, but that’s not his role, it has been seen, he is not a player who likes to go fight for the ball. In England, tactically he was freer, he didn’t have all the tasks required here. He has to adapt to our football, and at the same time Conte has to find the right solution to make him return to his best. Antonio is one of the best coaches, I’m sure he will figure it out.”

Yes I've been saying that all the time. It's not like our other players couldn't play such formation. If you have world class midfielder available, you use him. You change your system and formation if needed to get the best out of that player. You get more out of that even if other players' output decreases a bit, and I doubt it would even happen.

In Conte's system it's vital that midfielders fight hard because there's only 3 of them and 2 positions are used purely on wings and 3 on defence. So something needs to change, Eriksen has looked like a lost puppy out there time to time, because it's not in his comfort zone to take part in those midfield battles.

I think it was Ancelotti who said, when explaining why he played Pirlo at DM...

You pick your best 11 players, not your best formation.

Eriksen is, perhaps a bit off form, but one of the best midfielders we've had at the very least since Sneijder, and arguably since before that. A signing like him justifies changing the team to help someone like him play at full potential.

He should be deffo played as AM. He has played as CM lots of time in Spurs as well, but ass attacking minded CM with less defensive responsibilites. Similar to how Sensi played in his first month here. And Spurs ALWAYS had two midfielders that are good in defense next to him, since he didnt defend much (in terms of tackling). We have those two, Brozo and Barella. Sensi probably too.

That being said, even 3-4-1-2 can deffinielly work. Brozo and Barella behind Eriksen, is excellent trio. And having Sensi of the bench instead of Vecino when we need to attack is as great as it can be.

Pushing the fullbacks a bit less forward can be a solution for 3-4-1-2. So Barella doesn't havto play as DM basically.

    5-2-1-2 also.

Then you create another problem and that is that every attack will go down through the middle even if the attackers drift out wide to create space our midfielders have to drift down the centre.

Such a shame that we've missed out on half a season of this guy. This thread in January was absolutely bonkers while we were negotiating to get him

Eriksen: 'Inter made me feel wanted'

Christian Eriksen describes living under lockdown in Italy, not touching a football for seven weeks and why he had to leave Tottenham Hotspur for Inter.

Serie A clubs are allowed to go back into training from this week, as Italy moves into Phase Two of the coronavirus pandemic response.

“I’ve been running around the parking lot basement and calculated I can run 35 metres, then have to take a turn and run 35 metres back,” Eriksen told Danish newspaper Jyllands Posten.

“I haven’t touched the ball in seven weeks. It’s been the longest period without football in my life and I really am starting to miss it.”

As he had just moved from Tottenham Hotspur in January, Eriksen didn’t have a house to live in yet and spent lockdown in an Inter building.

“I thought of talking to Romelu Lukaku and Ashley Young, but they already had families to look after, and 14 days sleeping on someone’s sofa is too long.

“Instead, I ended up staying at the club’s training structure with a chef and five members of staff who chose to quarantine themselves in order to protect their families.”

Eriksen has been spending his downtime learning Italian, building Lego and watching Netflix, but ran into trouble during a drive in Milan.

“The police stopped me and in my rather bad Italian I had to explain what I was doing, where I was going and why I was out the house. I’ve never had so much free time and you can’t even really go shopping. We can’t complain, as it’s far more difficult for many others, but it is so different to the life we are accustomed to.

“We do follow the training schedule sent by the club and their diet plans too, but you have to make do.”

Eriksen’s Inter career had barely begun when the lockdown occurred, so he made only four Serie A appearances, two in the Europa League and two in the Coppa Italia.

“It seemed the right move for me, as they were very eager to sign me, and that’s important for a player to know he is wanted. It meant they would’ve done anything to bring me in.

“Some Tottenham fans got angry when I said in a BBC interview that I had a better chance of winning something at Inter, but that is the truth, there are many stronger teams in England.

“There will always be people at Spurs who are angry with me, but the vast majority of fans were positive and I liked playing for that club. I met some lovely people and have fond memories.

“I would’ve liked to leave in different circumstances, but that’s not how football works.”

He sounds weirdly detached from what he has experienced at Spurs. That's surprising to me. He seemed more invested. I guess that whole project was quite Pochettino-centric so to speak.

Actually, everything around Spurs is surprising to me, the way they so suddenly slipped into irrelevance and ended up with freakin Mourinho who's been more of a pundit than a coach for years now...ridiculous

Not complaining, we got a gem out of Spurs' strange misfortune.

One could speculate that Eriksen was essential to Spurs success, and his dip in form was because he wanted away years ago, and Levy has been blocking it all along, and Eriksen finally got sick of it and went public, and refused to extend his contract.

Certainly he has been rumored away for a long time, while Levy kept demanding crazy sums for him.

And his dip in form meant a dip in form for Spurs.
