This may or may not be the best team, but it doesn't matter, because it's your girlfriend's, wife's, wife's mom and hot aunt's favourite team. Whether she is into a playboy like Totti, a sommelier like seedorf, an artist like albertini, or a Balkan charmer like stankovic, this team has it all. I'd also like to remind you that the Mancini I chose is pre-rape, so you cant judge because it had not happened yet.

Anyway, Eduszee boasts one of the toughest CB pairings in the tournament, so it would be a fool's undertaking to physically impose. I decided to get small and crafty up front, using Mancini to pull defenders out wide where theyre vulnerable, leaving Montella space for a crafty run with totti in support. My defence doesn't matter as much because my midfield will never lose the ball. Their possession skills and dynamic passing range will get zambrotta and cafu into optimal positions to add more pressure on his backline.

0 0 Cannavaro 0 Blanc 0 0<br />
 0 0 0 JulioCesar 0 0 0<br />

    Subs: Crespo, Favalli and Baresi.

Now some explanation. Julio Csar imo is one of the best goalkeepers ever. Monumental to our Treble succes for sure.
Defense of Ziege, Canna, Blanc and Maggio. Ziege is good in going forward and causing damange on the left side, same counts for Maggio on the right side. A solid good fullback/wingback. But the real beauty is in the heart of the defense. 2 massive leaders, 2 captains and extremely complementary even though they never really played with each other. Blanc is going to be great in handling the larger forwards, such as Trezeguet, Batistuta, Ibra, ... Also very intellectual as a defender and a World Cup winner. Cannavaro, even though not at his best with us, is the first of my 2 Ballon D'Or winners, doesn't need an introduction. Legendary captain, and amazing pacy defender in his years after his stint at Inter. And also a World Cup winner.

Now for the midfield, Andrea Fucking Pirlo only aged like a fine wine. Let's not bullshit each other, the best deep-lying playmaker to have ever been around on a football field, or if you don't agree, at least we can say the most classy one. World Cup winner and even in his late years monumental to every club he represented. Siding him on the left would be De Rossi, another captain material, leader on the midfield and my pitbull to guard Pirlo and lead the midfield defense. Amazing player with a high intellect in the art of defense, also one agressive bastard. But exactly what Pirlo and Gazza need beside them. Next of Pirlo and De Rossi, you can find Paul Gascoigne. I'll admit, this is a bit of a gamble, but his talent is undeniable. The most talented English player ever, but the intellect of a peanut. However, on the field with his creativity, hard-working ethics and technically gifted skills he could unlock any defensive midfield. Also very much able to score goals with his head. And then of course, the best player and the captain on my squad, Zidane.
Where do we even start with him? My second Balon D'Or winner on the field. Creativity, dribbling, vision, leadership, elegance, ... You name it, Zidane is the full package. (Except for against ADRossi with Materazzi). He has won it all in his career. World Cup, Champions League, ... Absolute legend and arguably the best "10" from the 90s and early 00s. With his intellect, I could even post him a line lower and have Gazza one line forward as the attacking midfielder.

Now off to my strikers. Bobo Vieri. Inter legend, our most expensive record buy for a while, a profilic and proven goalscorer, foot, head, volleys,... doesn't matter, Bobo finishes the job. Also he had a good technique for someone who has been seen as a somewhat clumpsy player. Next to Vieri, I'll put Kluivert. Patrick Kluivert is also one of the all time greats, won the Champions League at a very young age, was for a long time the record goalscorer for Netherland. For being a tall mofo, he possesses a great first touch, great technique, pace, strong football intellect, ... Even though his only year in Serie A wasn't succesfull. No one can deny he is one amazing footballer. I feel that him and Vieri are a good partnership, pace and power, both masters with the head, both capable of assisting the other, they aren't relying on crosses all the time, ...

Now my bench. Crespo. Basically what can be said about Kluivert, can also be said about Crespo. He was partnered up with Vieri before, so I could still change that from game to game. What he excels more in than Kluivert is the ability to make room for the other forward. He might not be the most technical striker, but he was ruthless in front of the goal.
Secondly I put Giuseppe Baresi there, now again, depending from team to team, I could change from 4-1-2-1-2 formation to a 3-4-1-2 formation. I'm looking at Devious' attack for this formation. Baresi was the lesser Baresi in history, nonetheless a legend for us regardless. A hard-working and tenacious ball-winner, with an excellent ability to read the game, Baresi was regarded as one of the best and most versatile Italian defenders of his generation, as he was capable of playing as a full-back, or as a defensive midfielder, in addition to his natural centreback role, due to his stamina.(Stolen from Wikipedia to explain it better). He would shine along Blanc and Canna, but also instead of Gazza on the midfield. A midfield of De Rossi, Pirlo and Baresi would actually make Pirlo and Zidane shine even better.
Lastly, I chose Favalli. Basically I just wanted a reliable defensive fullback so in case of a team with strong wings (Figo), I'd have a defensive option to help out.

So that's my analysis of the team I picked. I cursed when these players were taken: Gullit, Stam, Zambrotta, Panucci, Cassano, and I felt it sting a little with missing out on Bergkamp.

    Bring it on, bitches.

I thought the Bergkamp pick was a direct cheap shot aimed at KevinB. So I did the same with Dellas. Crespo on the bench, must be nice.

You only lack one great striker and central defender imo. Your fullbacks and midfield are going to be tough to anticipate. But then again, I fear it'll be a popularity contest. Shame we can't use Football Manager or something to simulate some results.

What if I told you that we could?

The problem is that I have to integrate several databases together but it's doable and it won't take that long to make. It might be even easier to just create a new database on FM20 using either old databases which I have access to (from 96 and on) or via some "legends" db that people have created.

It would require to keep them safe from being transferred and also the new clubs mustn't get anyone else. But it is doable, I will try and do it after we finish the game, a) because I'm finally going to the office and my time will be limited to the amount I can cruise on my phone (which usually is a lot honestly), and b) in order to avoid any bias and unnecessary discussion about the video game version.

You're right. I made a huge mistake prioritizing midfielders as there were so many. The goal totals of my strikers are more impressive than their actual abilities. Its shocking how shit inzaghi actually was.

I'm disappointed that you didn't cry for Rijkaard.

I also wanted one of Panucci or Zambrotta for that right back spot.

I like Gullit, think he's better than Rijkaard but my issue with him is that I don't know what his best position is He was great as a central midfielder, attacking midfielder and as a forward, but honestly I was puzzled on where I could slot him and what formation I'd use.

Last I know is that FM2017, some guy made a database with all the legends. But I don't own the editor sadly. Yeah, you could, for instance, start a game, block in-game transfers until January and create friendlies with each other. Anyway, I'm all open for ideas, but I really feel Devious will win this thing because of his crazy attack and people will see Ronaldo - Adriano and just vote for it.

Well, I know Rijkaard was brilliant, but I only had 2 guys in mind for my defensive midfield position, De Rossi and Deschamps.
Gullit is just perfect for the entire midfield plus attack

my right back is a huge achillesheel though

    Recoba------------------Nedved

    ----------Van Basten

Tafarelli, one of the greatest brazian GK's ever and for sure a top 5 90's keeper. Great all around, stable af.

Tassoti probably the most solid defensive RB behind Zanetti, hardworking RB. Having probably a combo of the best CB's in the game. Thuram
and Nesta would go with each other like bread and pate. Two physically dominant players, with world class tackling as well as world class ball distribution.

On the left, criminally underrated LB, Chivu. Pre-head injury Chivu became a myth, I can't remember a better defensive LB.

Imagine Thuram and Nesta behind a double pivot deschamp and veron, totall ball control, winning balls distributing name one thing they got it.

Recoba and Nedved on the flanks.. Recoba a bit more advanced. I set up the team like a good old tactics. Wingers attack, midfielders control tempo,
and defenders defend. None of that flaky bullshit. People forget how good Recoba was. 100% fitness he'd put prime Ronaldo under him.

The cherry on top probably the 2nd best number 9 to ever live. Finishing of all the build up, being on the receiving end of all balls.

Good to bear in mind, zola, recoba, veron, even nedved all had great shot, which would make the defense play further up, loosening it up for thru balls.

After Zola gets tired he gets subbed by Ruben Sosa, most underrated player of 90's

And once Recoba tires out,i'd sub martins in as well for him.

    Tassoti---Thuram---Nesta---Chivu

    -----Deschamp----Veron------

    ------------Sosa

    Martins------------------Nedved

    ----------Van Basten

if need be, to defend result, id sub zola with Ancelotti instead for a midfield of Anceloti Deschamp and Veron.

Chivu was elite as a center back. As a left back he wasn't really that great, I preferred him at DM where he played for Romania.

I like the Recoba hype. Zola would occupy the #10 or support striker position though, not just an advanced central midfielder which is what I see there. He needs to be on the same level as Recoba and Nedved, otherwise he'll get bullied in the middle.

Since apparently no one can see my formation code:

    Subs: Klinsmann, Giannini, and Grosso

I have a well-balanced team that doesn't have any glaring weaknesses.

The attack is the strength of the team, anchored by two of the five best strikers who were available in the draft. A lethal combination of a pure CF and a true SS. Donadoni is known for being a winger, but has all of the attributes necessary to serve as trequartista. This attack is also extremely versatile; against opponents who require a wider attack, I can put Donadoni in his more natural RW and shift Baggio out to the LW and deploy a 4-3-3. This trident is the best attack that was drafted and will give defenses headaches with their pace, finishing, and skill on the ball. Klinsmann off the bench just makes this more lethal.

The midfield consists of three hard workers who are useful in both attack and defense. Conte and Vieira are both goal threats from distance and in the air. More importantly, both are tenacious tacklers and shutdown defenders who will allow for my attacking trident to have complete creative freedom. Paul Ince will be my box-to-box workhorse serving a Marchisio-type role, providing cover for Di Livio's attacks up the right flank.

Brehme will serve as my creative force from defense, offering great attacking down the left flank and superb crossing and set piece ability. Di Livio is a tireless runner who will be able to play 90 minutes of quality football. Materazzi and Barzagli may not be the quickest CBs, but both are strong tacklers who excel with their head.

van der Sarr is one of the better keepers of recent memory and while not on the level of a Buffon is more than capable of making critical saves.

Looking forward to getting to the voting. Thanks for organizing, Brehme.

Sorry been kind busy. I should be able to post my team later towards the evening if that's OK. Also didn't realise everyone was going to put paragraphs for explanations in

I'm going to judge it by looking at the players and their positions/formations/balance. Guess I should post an essay too when I do it later.

No need to make an essay here but if you want to it's more than welcome. It'd be far better to do these in the matchup thread so that the voters have something to work with, but I'll be adding these in the post since people have gone through the trouble of doing it.

You have shoemakers in midfield, but you dont even need them with Kaka, Adri, Ronaldo.

This was JJM's post after his last pick.

He hasn't sent me a pm when I asked for his lineup, should I just assume that this is the one?

I'll give him two hours and then I make the first threads.

So obviously we'll have a visible poll option.
There are two ways to solve the situation of what we do with our own vote [so that we can see the results by default as well instead of clicking another button every time].
Option A: We vote for our own team
Option B: A third option will be available for the team users to select. We risk the chance of some drunkard clicking that option instead of one of the two teams to win, but whatever, his vote shouldn't count if he cannot see straight

    I prefer option B myself.
