In the end of last season when Roma switched to 3 men defence and Roger Ibanez injured, Smalling started games as the RCB. That's 6 games.

I don't know have Smalling played in 3 men defence before.

Yeah, I think we'll make a late attempt for Smalling when Ranocchia goes, try and get the Ausilio classic™ loan + option for him. If Skriniar goes we'll invest in someone like Milenkovic, although Upamecano or Kounde would be my choices despite their price tags.

By the way, does anyone know how Todibo been playing? He was very hyped in January but now I see him being linked with just Everton.

He was Kabak backup at Schalke in the second round of the season. He looked promising but you can't really tell with Schalke as their performances were dreadful post covid. I would only consider him on loan.

He said we will sign one more, with Smalling being the favorite, on top of signing Darmian.

Just checked that Smalling is soon to be 31 years old. Couldn't be more Inter classic to replace fucking Skriniar with him and Darmian.

Smalling is in his prime year while Skriniar is not even close to Juan Jesus. Seems like a win win to me

60 million for Skriniar and don’t use it on Kante. We have enough mfs and a high waged injury proned 29 year old isn’t a risk we should take with all our money. Why not give 60 million + Persic for Pogba. At that point

    I say not bad.

If we can some how get 10-15 for Joao. I’d rate this this a 10/10 transfer window.
My guy, you cant even get pogba for 60m+perisic in fifa or fm. Let alone in real life.

I think Darmian is a backup for Hakimi on paper, although due to his versatility he can be used in many places. However I think that's his spot. Dalbert I think is on his way out, so that would be Perisic/Young and Hakimi/Darmian. Sounds about right.

Regarding defense, I think we're set with Bastoni/Kolarov, De Vrij/Pirola, Skriniar/Dambrosio. Obviously we want to replace Skriniar with someone else who might have less value, but will be more comfortable on that right side.

Going back to our replacement discussion. I think ideally Conte would like to get Kante and someone better like Milenkovic for Skriniar and Brozo. However it's very hard to get both, so it looks more like we'll try to get Kante and Smalling instead. That's the market and we cannot do anything. We will for sure take a loss on Skriniar, but if we get better results in the season, i.e. more money, then which is better? I think it's better to have a better season, as long as it's not a 1-timer.

As to Smalling. He is no world beater, but I don't see why he has such a bad rap here. He was a big suprise for Roma last year, which is why they wanted him back. He is no beast, but he will do alright if we have to go with some cheaper option to get Kante for example.

Hopefully the Fiorentina match showed to management and Conte we need to sign a Godin replacement. We can't go into the season with D'Ambrosio, Pirola and Kolarov as our cb backups.

Should be but he won't because he's too costly. Sign Smalling since Conte likes him. Sign even fucking Rudiger. But at least sign someone who's a decent cb and not a fucking fullback.

Not only that, he needs to be a side CB as well. Smalling played only central CB at Roma. Mancini would be nice on paper.
In a 4-3-1-2 we wouldn't have to worry about these attributes

Conte won premier league with Azpiliqueta as one of the back three, so it's nothing new.

De Vrij was solely missed today. He and Bastoni will play and then we have another replacement for Skriniar. It won't be Kolarov - Bastoni - Dambrosio with 2 side backs in the back three.

€50m after today’s performance. Fiorentina won’t give us any discounts. We’re not Juventus.

Yeah we need to be as lucky as last season when we had no injuries for De Vrij basically whole season? DV out pushes Bastoni to the middle and then Kolarov onto the pitch.

We wouldn'tbe Inter if we don't fuck some department after fixing another, the attack is filled and the midfield is finally superb but let's fuck up the once almost perfect defense. Typical.

But are you comparing Azpilicueta to Kolarov and D'Ambrosio?

Conte got extremely lucky last night and seems like he didn't got a hint. That defence will be a complete disaster. One De Vrij won't save anything if he has those idiots with him.

Bastoni is promising but Conte will burn him is he puts him to this kind of leading role so early.

I really don't know how anyone can bring up Azpilicueta as an example. Azpi always was a great defensive fullback while Kolarov was always known for his contribution in attack. They're entirely different players.

Every coach will tell you you always need some luck in a season. Look at Lewandowskim sub. Had he been injured they would be screwed as well.

It always happen with crucial players in a team when they get injured. I would prefer to have another De Vrij on the bench to cover for him or some higher quality defender, but it's not achievable this year financially so no need to just frustrate myself over that. Defenders rarely get lengthy injuries so that's a ray of light.

Not at all. I was responding to the argument that playing side backs in back 3 is not a good idea. Azpi was indeed a side back before Conte put him in that back 3 on the side.

Regarding our troubles. We'll have De Vrij the next game so with him and Bastoni we have literally the same defense centrally and on the left as we had last year. And we had last goals so I don't know where all that panic comes from. Once we get proper Skriniar replacement who will be comfortable as RCB there will be no issue whatsoever.

I agree it looks Bastoni needs a bit more experience to play that central role before we move him in matches where he will be tested.
