    Inter - Bolgona Report

    Hello Interfriends,

Inter gains 5 straight victories with a 4-2 win over Bologna today. The day could be all smiles with the win and of course the 4th place spot as Inter climb over Parma in the standings. However the one negative is once again Vieri and his commitment to the club. Vieri was not even on the bench today as Zac told him he would not start but would be used as a sub. Vieri refused to join the team under that condition and once again it will spark bad media coverage and overall speculation about his future.

Vieri was however seen in the stands along side Materazzi during the match but his comments to different reporters are contridicting. To one journalist he denied any problems stating "The coach told me I would be on the bench today, I told him I would rather practice instead and now Iam here to watch the match" To another journalist he said "I don't have anything to day to Zaccheroni, I only talk to Moratti." The public at the San Siro today did chant against the Italian Striker and I must say I agree with the fans if its true he refused to play.

Vieri is once again confirming that despite all his talent, his comitment and his ego too often are in his way. Iam sorry but Iam of the opinion that from the biggest star to the water boy, you must respect the decisions of your superior. If this story is true that Vieri refused to even join the club then it is a slap on the face to his team-mates on that very same bench that he seems to think is beneath him. Lets also remember that Vieri has not practiced with the club all week and for him to expect a starting place while others have worked for that spot is just plain wrong.

Anyway, on to the match. Once again Inter is faced with many injuries and without the service of Almeyda, Emre, C. Zanettis and so on, Zac decides to move Javier Zanetti into the central role along side Farinos with Kily and Helveg on the wings. Stankovic returns to the lineup to play behind the strikers Adriano and Recoba while the 3 man back line is without Materazzi, and so lineup with Adani flanked by Cannvaro and Cordoba with Toldo in net.

Inter have the lions share of possesion in the first half but do very little with it. Stankovic does not get involved at all while J.Zanetti and Farinos do very well to win balls, but there outlet options are restricted due to poor movement by the team off the ball. The rythym was a bit slow and also many bad or missed passes were seen making the game quite choppy.

Luckily Bologna also did not seem to be on there best day as Nakata and Signori only tactic was to kick up for Tare and hope he could make something out of it. It once again took some individual work to unlock the game and it was Adriano who provided it as he looks to be returning to his old form. Although he did not get much service he did well when he had the ball and at the 33rd minute he uses his strength along the left side with 3 defenders around him. Adriano does enough to cross a low hard ball into the area. Oddly enough Recoba is unmarked in the 6 yard box and puts in the one touch goal past Pagliuca to make it 1-0 Inter.

(A side note here, after the great work by Adriano the fans in the Curva Nord began to chant phrases against Vieri and chant praises for Adriano.)

The lead gave Inter the confidence to come out of there shell a bit and were able to string some good counter attacks together. Although the final pass was hard to come by, Pagluica was tested a few times, most notably from Stankovic who got free in the area but Pagluica made a good save. Near the end of the half the injury bug hit once again as Recoba was forced to leave the pitch and was replaced by Martins just before half time.

Inter come out in the second half with new life and fire on all cylinders. Just minutes in they find the second goal from a Kily corner kick. Cannavaro and Adriano climb high to meet the cross and it looks to be Cannavaro that got the touch with the header to make it 2-0. Some how Inter are reborn and begin to play some amazing collective football. Thats right I said collective!

The 3rd goal was a prime example as the Inter defence won a ball just outside the area. Pass to Farinos who then finds Adriano up field. The brasilian cuts inside and sees Martins making a run into the box and sends a great ball into his path. Martins could have shot but somehow saw Stankovic arriving in support so he slots the ball across goal for Stankovic to score a wonderful 3-0 lead!

Gazzetta.it put it best as they said this Inter squad needs to be analyzed mentally more than physically because it is obvious that the talent is there to win with football like that. With the 3-0 lead Zac brings on Brechet for Adani while Belluci cuts the lead to 3-1. Martins then gets his piece of the pie as he pulls a great move at the edge of the box to go past the defender and beat Pagluica at the near post to make it 4-1. Bellucci adds another for Bologna but the game and the 3 points were Inter's to take home with a great second half effort.

Lets wait to see what is on plate for Vieri and the new soap opera that will surely arise this week in the Media.

Yes, in my own match report, I forgot to mention that Inter was playing Jekyl & Hyde. Poor in the first but much better in the second half.

Eddy, what does 'collective' mean??? And did you see the banner the fans made for Vieri??? Do you know what does it mean??? I can only remember parts of it and it says 'Bobo fuoki dai caglioni'. I tried to transalate it using BabelFish but to no avail. Thanx Eddy.

Btw, if you have time, please post in the other forums as well. You view will definitely be invaluable for the forum.

Great Report Eddy...I really thought that we would suffer when Recoba went out and Martins came in.I thought we would have one of those halves where our offence will be isolated from the rest...I am glad i was wrong as the team actually played like one and helped each other out and found each other unselfishly...I have to say Adriano played his butt off and could have scored several times...But whats nice is that he came back assissted Recoba and had a beautiful pass to Martins which he got to Stan whom scored...So he was involoved on more than one level.

Thank You to that link which made me watch the game here in the US...It was really nice

    Hi Handoyo,

The word collective means "together" or "group" When i say they played collective football I mean they played like a team and the build up was a group effort. It was contributed by many players not just an individual player like we see so often. Hope that clarifies things for you.

As for the banner, i did see a portion of it but i was on the phone when they were showing it. From the part you posted it seems it is in italian dialect and if Iam correct it reads "Bobo away from our balls (in reference to the balls in between our legs that is)

In other words, Vieri go away and stop bothering us. But I may be wrong on this one as I said the banner was in a dialect of italian.

    great report Eddy as always,
and good comment on how teamwork should be respected by any player..

and I agree with Gazzetta when they said this inter should be analyzed mentally rather than anything else..

I believe zac mainly works on that..

Cuper is a great coach, but we have to admit than within Zac's period we see many good games.., With Cuper we often cursed even when we won..

In Vieri's case. To me, releasing Vieri will make us like a fool...
but let's wait and see, we should not jump into conclusion too quickly
