Udinese vs Inter Match Report
After a poor showing and poor formation against Porto this week, Inter return to winning ways against Udinese winning 1-0 away from home. Last time Inter beat Udinese away was December 13, 1998 making this win a bit more special.
Mancini returns to the 4-4-2 formation after a bad attempt at a 4-5-1 in midweek. Mancini does make a few changes though as he moves Figo on to the left side with Ze Maria wide on the right in midfield. Adriano comes back into the side along with Recoba up front.
Inter start off very well as a team and have the upper hand from the start. Veron and Cambiasso own the midfield while Samuel and Materazzi held the defensive side yet again giving Inter control. Veron was great all over and he compliments Cambiasso so well that it works to perfection.
Adriano who got the start after a week of showing up late from Brazil and being benched in the Champions league has all to prove but his day is cut short as he gets injured after a collision with Muntari and seems to be a shoulder injury at the 15th minute. Adriano played until the 25th minute but was forced off with Cruz coming in for him.
I must say though Adriano is starting to worry me. He does not look like he wants to be out there. His face is never happy as you see with Brazil and in todays match the team as a whole played great but to be honest, in the 15 minutes before his injury Adriano barely touched a ball!!
Either way Cruz is in fine form these days and even though it did not work out with him as the lone striker against Porto he is clearly in better form and with Recoba beside him he did very well today.
Inter came close to scoring on a few attempts over the first half the most notable being Recoba who bursts towards the area and beats the rushing keeper DeSantis at the edge of the box but Recoba's shot was saved on the line by Sensini.
Inter do score however at the 36th minute as Cruz took a through ball from Veron towards the box. Cruz did very well to beat Felipe with a dribble and then went to lay off the ball to Recoba. Sensini however got in the way and his intercept turned into a pass for Cruz who took advantage of the mistake and put the ball into net past the keeper to make it 1-0.
It was smooth sailing as Inter took the lead and came close on several occasions in the second half to add to the lead. Figo had a great second half with some good runs and 2-3 shots on goal that were well saved. Figo really did not impress in the first half and seemed to be very slow and out of his element on the left. The second half though he seemed like a different player and did everything right from runs down the line to cut-backs to the inside to some good shots on goal that a lesser keeper would not reach. Hopefully he can repeat the second half performance on a consistant basis for Inter.
The Inter defence controlled Iaquinta and Di Natale and with Veron and Cambiasso winning the midfield battle Udinese never looked to threaten. The only complaint was that Inter was not able to score a second and kill the game but in the end it was not needed. Still it would have been a more relaxed ending since Cosmi goes for broke and brings on DiMichele and Rossini and ends with 4 strikers on the pitch.
Overall it was a very well played match and a total team effort which was great to see. Veron had a good game distributing, Cambiasso seems to be winning balls all over the pitch and Samuel has totally settled the defence. Inter now have 6 wins and 2 losses from 8 games which is much better than the draws from last season but Juve is on another planet right now winning 8 out of 8.
Nice writting, Eddy.
Just keep pressure on Juve, they will make some mistake sooner or later.
thanx eddy, I didn't notice what you said on Adriano.....
