    Gobbi From The Penalty Spot

When I went to Italy last month I bought this book called Nostra Signora Del Dischetto, which means Our Lady From The Penatly Spot. It was written by an impartial source, using La Gazzetta Dello Sport as main reference. It reports ALL penalties given to Juve in the history of Serie A. All of them, rightful ones and dodgy ones. For each penalty the circumstances are described and quotes from the people involved are reported.

These quotes are on the back cover:

"Egidio must shut up today, otherwise they'll ban him for life."
Egidio Calloni, Milan striker, 13 March 1977

"The penalty? Don't put me in an embarrassing situation."
Moreno Torricelli, Juve defender, 27 March 1994

    "Let's forget about the episodes."
Marcello Lippi, Juve coach, 15 September 2001

"For me football is happiness when you play 11 against 11. But when it's 11 against 12, it's just sadness."
Ronaldo, Inter striker, 26 April 1998

"It wasn't a penalty but I couldn't tell the ref in time."
Alessandro Del Piero, Juve striker, 27 January 2002

I will try to post the dodgy episodes from the book. I'll start with the most recent (March 2005) going backwards.

There are also some stats at the end which I will get around to post.

And remember, always and forever, we are not Gobbi bastards!

I loved the one by DP, "I couldn't tell the ref on time"

Maybe there is justice to what is happening to him now!

If we intend to discuss about all the dodgy penalties given to Juve, this topic will reach up to 200 pages.
    JuveMerda pieces of shit!

True, the book only considers the ones that are CERTAIN without a shadow of a doubt, and obviously only penalties GIVEN. Then there's all the rest (penalties not given against them, offsides, disallowed goals and so on).

You know Frisk, as of late, I am in love with Totti. He maybe loose in the head, but he is the biggest man in Serie A these days.

He says it like it is, and shoots straight from the hip. He is just giving it to Juve and Capello, all without hesitations. He has done it before, and he is the only Italian superstar to say the truth.

    Bravo Totti!

    Join the club Hamed,
I have been a fan of his for several years, mainly because of what you just said. They guy has the guts to talk to media against those filthy animals for years now and also Capello for obvious reason in the past 2 years! Canít wait to watch the Roma ĖJuve game.

    I love Totti!

Come on Han, Veron is the one who started it. He tried to stump on him when he fell, but he misssed. Then it was him that started the head-butting, and used his hand first.

I stand up for my team players, but I like to say the truth. Plus, I hates when my players start things like this, just made us look like soar losers.

Yeah, but Totti acted like the b!tch that he is, as if he was punched by Mohammad Ali when all Veron did was pushed his face.

Seriously, he's one heck of a player and I love his Juve jibes but I can't stand his duplicity on the field!

I will not argue against him being an ass for alot of times, that is for sure.

I just like his frankness and the fact that he tells the tough truth alot of times.

You see this is why I can't dislike you Frisko, top thread.
Question, is the book in Italiani or in English? I'm guessing Italian.

I must say, I wouldn't be able to read that, as mentioned...every part of my house would have cracks on it.

Yeah I know Han, I've been slacking. Here's some more:

    Serie A 2003/04 - Brescia v Juventus 2-3
Penalty: 53' when the score was 2-1
    Taken by: Del Piero, scored
    Ref: Bertini

What happened: Nedved dives after a challenge from Di Biagio. Replays show that there was minimal contact between the players.

Quote: Gianni De Biasi (Brescia coach): "The ref would never have given us a penalty like that."
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Serie A 2003/04 - Juventus vs Udinese 4-1
Penalty: 54' when the score was 0-0
Taken by: Del Piero, hit the bar
    Ref: Pieri

What happened: Le Grottaglie heads the ball, the ball bounces on Bertotto's back, then on his arm while he's completely facing the other way. Pieri lets the play continue, but his assistant calls him over to report a voluntary hand ball.

Quote: Luciano Spalletti (Udinese coach): "The penalty? What penalty? Did anyone see a penalty?"
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Serie A 2003/04 -Juventus vs Bologna 2-1
Penalty: 80' when the score was 1-1
    Taken by: Trezeguet, scored
    Ref: Paparesta

What happened: Paparesta falls for Zambrotta's dive.

Quote: Fabio Pecchia (Bologna midfielder): "Football is a sport for wise-guys." Gianluca Zambrotta (Juventus defender): "It's true, I exaggerated the fall."
