Inter vs Ascoli Report
I know I have missed a few match reports in the last few weeks but being out of the country made it impossible to watch the matches and write reports. Iam back home now and made it just in time to watch Inter win at home against Ascoli 1-0 and start the Derby week off on the right foot.
Inter wins their third game in a row after beating Parma and Messina as Adriano scores a wonderful free kick at the 24th minute of the first half to secure the points. For Ascoli it was the complete opposite as they now have not won a match in the last seven games losing the last three in a row.
Mancini gives faith to Recoba as he starts up front along side Adriano and Inter look lively right from the start. Ascoli try to match Inter and play a high tempo pressing hoping to catch Inter on a mistake but the nerazzuri looked concentrated. Inter had control of the ball and the match but credit to Ascoli who came to play and tested Julio Cesar on a few occasions rather than just sit and defend.
Inter also look to threaten and if not for a fantastic Ascoli keeper would have already scored in the opening 10 minutes but the keeper denies Recoba, Figo and Adriano on clear chances. At the 24th minute however a piece of Magic from Adriano breaks the game open. With a wonderful left footed freek kick, Adriano scores a beauty as the ball hits the underside of the crossbar and goes in giving the goalie no chance and making it 1-0.
Recoba has just enough time to celebrate the goal but is taken off shortly after for Martins as he suffered an injury from an earlier knock. It was a shame as Recoba looked good on the ball early on and seemed to combine well with Adriano but it was not to be his day. Inter continue to go forward and create with good pressure but could not find another goal in the first half leaving the scoreline at 1-0 at half time.
Inter play a more patient game in the second half as they try to reserve some energy for a tough week ahead as they play against Rangers in Champions League and of course the Derby against Milan next Sunday. Inter control the game and don't run any risks as Julio Cesar is not tested at all while the Ascoli keeper makes a few more miracle saves to deny Inter.
At the 19th minute Coppola makes two amazing saves in quick fashion as he first denies Adriano from close range with his leg and then stops Cambiasso on the rebound to keep the game at 1-0. Although Inter controlled the game the fustration of not being able to close the game was evident and some tension was growing as any mistake could allow Ascoli back into the match.
Luckily Ascoli also did not have the firepower nor the skill to get by the well organized Inter side and although a few more goals should have been scored, Inter come away with a comfortable win and 3 more important points in Serie A. With a tough week ahead the win should help bring morale and strength for the Derby next week!
Great report as usual.
Forza Inter per sempre!!!!
Jose responding after the derby:"We could only have lost by having six people on the park, as even with seven, we would have won. "

Good report Eddy, but I have to mention that it was poor finishing that made the Ascoli keeper, Copola, look good. There were 2 or 3 shots that really needed to be goals, they should have finished that game earlier than the 90th minute. They all really need to work on their shooting from open play.
It really took that magical set piece to break them down as they saved everything we threw at them..Lets hope we get a similar break against Milan now
