nice to hear that, I am back in croatia now and will have eurosport, but my choice is ivory coast, and OBA OBA!

I hate this tournament. It should be taking place in june not january. But the African officials have no common sense whatsoever. They make it hard for players and clubs.

I hope nigeria go out first round so Oba can be back on 1 February.

The only answer for this is that in north-africa in june it's a very hot temperature, and now it's hot but not as in the summer.... i don't find more excuses for do it now.

hm..ayigbeni has said he won't participate. eto'o will also maybe miss out. let's hope that the tournament shows its full strength, eventhough if for us it means eto'o being out for 2 weeks, but as long as he returns healthy, I'm all the way for supporting Africa.
IMHO it has become the second strongest continental championship after European Championships.
Cote D'Ivoire certainly will have a lot to say, however I would still put my money on Maghreb teams coming strong. I would say that Tunisia, Morocco, even Egypt and from black african teams Cote D'Ivoire, Cameroon and Ghana.

btw. one should look at the groups!!! there are 2 groups of death..

    Group A(!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

    1.Egypt 0 0 0 0 0- 0 0
    2.Libya 0 0 0 0 0- 0 0
    3.Morocco 0 0 0 0 0- 0 0
    4.Ivory Coast 0 0 0 0 0- 0 0

    Group B

    1.Angola 0 0 0 0 0- 0 0
    2.Cameroon 0 0 0 0 0- 0 0
    3.Congo-Kinshasa 0 0 0 0 0- 0 0
    4.Togo 0 0 0 0 0- 0 0

    group c

    1.Guinea 0 0 0 0 0- 0 0
    2.South Africa 0 0 0 0 0- 0 0
    3.Tunisia 0 0 0 0 0- 0 0
    4.Zambia 0 0 0 0 0- 0 0

    Group D(!!!!)

    1.Ghana 0 0 0 0 0- 0 0
    2.Nigeria 0 0 0 0 0- 0 0
    3.Senegal 0 0 0 0 0- 0 0
    4.Zimbabwe 0 0 0 0 0- 0 0

    Quarterfinals
    3- 2-06 winners A - runners-up B [in Cairo]
    3- 2-06 winners C - runners-up D [in Alexandria]
    4- 2-06 winners B - runners-up A [in Cairo]
    4- 2-06 winners D - runners-up C [in Port Said]

    Semifinals
    7- 2-06 A1/B2 - C1/D2 [in Cairo]
    7- 2-06 B1/A2 - D1/C2 [in Alexandria]

computing this, I would right now say..

    1) Tunisia
    2) Cameroon/Ivory Coast
    3) Egypt
    4) Ghana

I agree with Stefan, this is a very stupidly timed tournament. And I don't think it has alot to do with hot weather, there are plenty of locations in Africa where it is moderate. And they can always play in the night. But this is one sign showing how screwed up Africans officials are at everything.

Anyway, I sadly won't be able to see much of the games, at least as far as I know. Unless some TV channel does charity this time, I miss French TV

I too think a Meghreb team will win it, and my bet is on Tunisia to retain the trophy. That group with Egypt, Morocco and Libya is interesting. I expect some fireworks in the Libya-Egypt game

did you use to live in france??

Tunisia IMHO is currently the strongest african team. They might not have the flashy names, but as a group they seem like the strongest.

No, but I lived in the French part of Canada, and they used to show African up on French TV there all the time.

If I were Eto'o, I wouldn't do it. His team is doing so well, and he is doing exceptionally well. Someone has to stand out and tell them to stop holding it in mid-season, and to PLEASE hold it every 4 years like normal people would do.

In the end the African federation will bow down to the clubs and should do so..

Don't worry, the timing of the matches won't be crazy or anything.

Anyway, I was planning to go watch Nigeria live but sadly they'll play their matches in Portsaid, not Cairo. But Martins and co. will train at Shooting club which is only a few minutes away from my house, I'll try to go.

Any egyptians here with me ?

Well I will support Nigeria here because of Oba ofcourse. They have a good chance to win it, they have great players and they must be pretty angry of not reaching the WC so they will give their best.
And does Obinna play for Nigeria?

Obinna was called up to Nigeria's training camp in Faro, Portugal but I believe it ends there. Why would we bring him in January if he won't be available ?!
