Is it not time to re-evaluate the Moratti era?

"When facts change, I change my opinion as well." - John Maynard Keynes

A good part of Interisti have been doing it for some time now. The bashing, the insults, the name-calling. No, not of rival players and fans, but of their own proprietor Massimo Moratti.

His presidency has been described as a failure, himself dubbed as a loser. But in light of recent facts emerging, it is clear that he did not fail, he was not allowed to succeed!

What have up to a week ago been only bar-talk and fan jibes, dismissed as sour-grapes by those in favour of footballing powers, is now an established truth in front of all to see. Referees were favouring Juventus. And GEA, who was all but owning several Serie A clubs(Messina, Reggina, Siena, Udinese) insured 6 points for Juve from each one of those.

Inter(and other clubs as well) were starting the season with at least a 10 point disadvantage even before the first ball was kicked! Under those conditions, it is a near impossible task winning the title. One would have to do a record in proportions of Inter's last Scudetto to actually do it, save an absolute disaster from Juve(or them being coached by Ancelotti).

"OK, but what of the Champions league?" you ask."Why could not Inter succeed there?". Simple. You get to the CL by playing in domestic competitions. And if they are irregular it inevitably draws consequences in Europe. It's not just Inter that has been faltering. In the past 7 seasons, only twice has a Serie A club made it beyond the CL quater-finals, whereas Italy once ruled the Euro cups. It was a clean sign to anyone that something is rotten in Italian football.

I am not alone in this opinion. Reading reports from various Italian sites one can not miss several frases that point out the same:

Sportnews.it: "Now is the time for Inter directors to think long and harsh and not destroy the good things in the club that there are, to try to improve and to think of tommorow. And when the the atmosphere is cleaned up perhaps it will be easier for them too..."

Gazzetta.it:There was still time for a nice headed goal from Nonda vi a Totti free-kick, and then Inter celebrated an honest trophy, in these days it is no small matter

Judge Moratti by what he does in a clean environment, when Moggi is kicked out and GEA is dissolved. The last 8 years or so simply don't count.
    Moggi, magari' mori' oggi!!!!!
    Galliani magari' mori' domani!!!!
    Lotito verme!!!!

    That quote was superb. Bravo.

Nice reading. I really love Moratti so I never said he should quit and this is one more reason why we should be thankful Grazie Massimo

There's something that I must add.

Moratti is a true gentleman. Despite amassing huge financial reserves, he has thus far kept Inter away from the corruption that is rife in Italy. If anything, I believe this speaks volumes about the character of Massimo.

He may be an inept manager of a football squad, but in the general sense of things, he is an excellent president - honest, sincere, loyal and generous.

    Ciao,

I agree with the article very much, but there's an important theme I got to mention.

There's talk of us signing Capello.
Now, with the scandal revealed, wouldn't signing Capello make us look like we appreciate the job Juve did in the last two years? Because we know they won the league unfairly, on the other hand we do know that he's a good manager from his days in Milan, Madrid and Rome.

My question is, do we need Capello to win or would Mancini be good enough to win the Scudetto in a fair league?

well those who know me know...i hate Moratti

But i must say i'll eat my tongue if at teh end of next season if Juve are relegated and INTER win the scudetto

I'll have to shut the F*** up and respect Moratti

While he should have had the wiles to defeat Moggi by exposing him earlier and showing the world what was going on i'll still have toshut up and face up to the fact that it was not his fault

BUT!!!!! this remains to be seen
    O INTER OMORTE

We all love Moratti for the love and passion and commitment he has got for the club. For the image of the club, for the feeling of pride and honor we feel to support Inter.

But that does not rule out the mistakes he has made, and we hv had to suffer for that.

These r two different facets of Moratti's charachter, and one shud not overshadow the other.

In a country rife full of corruption, Moratti has done an excellent job keeping our club honest and clean, even if the results haven't been there.

Don't forget all those times we beat Juventus who had 3 more players than us on the field.

With all of the investigation and all...
I think Moratti has done a good job... He could have won many league trophies.
and I agree it's no time to re-evaluate.. At any condition, inter never win scudetto with such corrupted league officials...

So no matter any coach he puts, Inter will never won it. But now it's difference. But the battle is still going, after this battle has been won by the football fans around italy and the world... We could start hoping to win it again.

cool_cuchu ... i dont agree with u. Both Lazio and Roma hv won under these circumstances, and no ref was responsible for May 5, 2002.

Moratti is a gr8 man but he is a poor administrator. His loyalty and passsion for Inter will never negate his incompetence in football management

You guys are very willing to re-evaluate Moratti's position after the scandal, how about re-evaluating Roberto Mancini's?

To be honest, I would rather go trophyless for the next 50 years than to win one illegitimately.

You cannot blame Moratti for our style of play and our results and performances, but you can definetly point the finger at Mancini. After all, Moratti has given Mancini everything he needed for his project 'Lazio'.

Be careful what you wish for, it might just come true.

50 years is a freaking long time. Hell, I might be dead by then.

I don't understand how can you hate such a great man...Moratti has dedicated his time, money, body & soul to this club so much it's unbelievable. If you wanna hate someone/something, hate his judgment, but not the man himself.

Moratti is a rare breed of an owner. I honestly can't recall any other of his kind in the world of football today.

For us right now, it may be too d@mn easy to say, "Oh f*ck, if I have it, I'll spend billions to help Inter!" But I'm sure that as we mature and as we have the responsibilities to take care of our family, that's no easy feat and Moratti has done that countless of times.

A huge f*cking big up to Moratti.
