I usually donít get excited until the tournament actually starts. According to their coach as stated in here they will be coming with their full squad which was expected. It wont be as easy as they think deep inside it might be, but surely they should be ranked as fav to win it.

I almost forgot about Australia and yes..maybe...it should be in the other forum.
But really, I forgot that Australia participates and thought that only a handful of people from Iran, bahrein and Saudi Arabia might be interested..

but yeah...it should be in national team thing.

can any of u fellas givie me a bit of background about the comp... just a few things like who are the teams to look out for, whos in form, a bit of history, like past winers n stuff.

i know iran are a great team, and will be dam good competition, but thats just about the only country i'm familiar with.

correct me if i'm wrong, but AUS have pritty shitty record playing away to asain teams, especially in arab countries, should be interesting.

and give us your predictions. for me, given the right circumstances i.e injuries/suspentions ext.. Australia can win this thing. althoguh the fact Aus are even in this comp is bit wierd...we so dont fit in haha

last two times Japan won it. The last time they even sent a better B-Team with only Nakamura as a real A-team player but still won it.

Record champions are if I'm not wrong Iran, Saudi Arabia and Japan each with 3 wins.

As for contenders, Australia should be in it. I quite fancy the current Saudi team, they are quite good. Iran depends a lot on the players and their mood. We also have probably one of the weaker coaches of the tournament among the title contenders.
South Korea should also be in it, although they historically never cared for Asian Cup.

So, you got Japan, Saudi Arabia, Iran, S.Korea and Australia, Bahrein and Uzbekistan as dark horse, and that's about it.

The weather conditions favour probably Australia and Japan/East Asian teams.

I think the favorites ofcourse have got to be Japan and Australia (if they bring their first team). S Korea and Iran too...

As for dark horses you might see them in Uzbekistan or Qatar.I am abit pessimistic when it comes to Bahrain because of the group they are in although they played very well in the qualifier against Kuwait, well at least the first half

Australia will bring their First team with all the European based players. I really don't see anything stopping us if we are on song.

Aussi-what????? Saudi can beat Australia in this tournament, Saudi and Iran are probably the only teams that can handle the Aussie's physically and both of them can beat Austalia.

In the WC Japan couldn't match Austalia physically but they did more than enough tactically and technically.

However, Saudi and Iran are their own worse enemy (more on that later.) Both teams have great players, specially Iran with their players that play in international leagues. But this is the Asian cup, so experience in europe may count for little and so might the interest from some Iranian players.

Unfortunately, those on charge of either federation (at least I know it's so in Saudi) can't run a farm with a donkey and two goats, let alone a federation. Right now, there is upheavel in Saudi Arabia regarding the federation. Basically, everyone is sick of their favoritism to some clubs and some players, and this is creating tension between players.

If both teams got the right direction and the right harmony, they can both play for the final. Sadly, I doubt it'd be so, and probably it would Australia vs Japan/South Korea. I am glad Saudi will play Bahrain late, because there will be tension and the brothers down the bridge would love to beat Saudi (maybe as much as winning the cup, or maybe times are different now!)

Anyway, I'd love for Saudi or Iran to win it (with all due respect to other teams) but my money is on Japan again.

BTW, a special shout out to the Asian federation, great timing! I bet those players in Europe would love to play in the middle of their holiday, specially in the year after the WC. What's next? Only allow 7 starting players and hold the final on Everest?

The Cup will be coming to Australia! I get what Hamed says and coz Australia is going with the intention to win and make it a big deal we will likely get it.

Again??? I thought the issues are settled for now and last time I checked, the squad was pretty balanced with players from Ittihad, Hilal and Shabab more or less brotherly shared. I thought that the team was pretty broad and the players from Hilal that played, really deserved to.

But you are spot on...Asian Cup is nothing you can come and win easily and both Saudis and Iran will be extra motivated in any game involving Australia.

But last time I checked, Bahrein waived the Saudi flag after beating Iran , so no matter how much they love to beat Saudi, they sure as hell love more to beat Iran and if we play them in the second round, it should be one hell of a game.
But yeah...Japan simply seems to strong to beat..actually with the way the federations are run, any team from the Persian Gulf in the final will be something close to a miracle.
