    ALL ABOUT SHANGHAI INTERNATIONAL
    Friday, 23 July 2004 16:46:42

MILAN - Shanghai International is one of the two Shanghai-based teams that play in the Chinese Super League. After gaining promotion to the Chinese top flight in 2001, Shanghai International finished the 2002 season in ninth position then finished runners-up to cross-city rivals Shenhua in 2003. (Thank god, they play in the main league )

Included in the squad that has travelled to Italy are two former Chinese internationals of great experience: midfielder Shen Si and left-back Wu Chengying (who had a trial with Como two years ago). Shanghai International count three foreign players among their ranks: Nigerian defender Admas Kola, Brazilian striker Jose Ze Alcino (ex-Nantes) and former Lecce forward Kwame Ayew, a Ghana international who last season won the Chinese league top scorers' title along with Honduras international Saul Martinez, who plays for Shanghai Shenhua.

Against the Nerazzurri Kwame is likely to be partnered in attack by young striker Du Pin. Both players joined Shanghai International from Shenyang Ginde before the start of the current season, which began in May and will resume in September after an extended summer break because of the Asian Cup.

Experienced keeper Jiang Jin plays in goal for Shanghai International, while on the wings the club has two interesting youngsters: number 17 Shen Han, a speedy right winger, and the multi-talented number 20 Wang Yun on the left.

Current Shanghai International coach is Chen Yaodong, while the team has been coached by Englishman Bobby Houghton (ex-Chinese national boss) and Frenchman Claude Le Roy, who has also coached Senegal.

Teams often change name in China. Shanghai International have played under their present name since 1 October 2003, when all Chinese Super League were requirement to adhere to a series of measures before the inaugural 2004 season. The motivation behind using the word international is to fit in with the 'demands of the development of professional football'. Before being bought out by transportation company Cosco, the team was called Shanghai Zhongyuan Huili and then Shanghai Zhongyuan Huili International Team, or Shanghai International.

So Prav, I assume you'll go to Shanghai from Beijing, hide inside the Inter Shangai plane's wheel and get yourself a free trip to see Inter live in Italy?

Oh btw, no kidding, 2 absolutely dumb Indonesian kids have done that stunt.

Why did you tell me about this only now. The players from the Chinese Shanghai club have already left Shanghai by now.

For those in Singapore, this match is shown live on Supersports Plus Channel 21, at 2:55 AM Sunday. I probably can't watch it coz I got soccer practice on Sunday morning.

    ======================

    btw,

RISCONE DI BRUNICO - The eighteen Inter players called up for the Saitama City Cup will leave Italy for Japan tomorrow afternoon, then after a training session on Monday the Nerazzurri face Urawa Red Diamonds at 19:00 Tokyo time on Tuesday. Roberto Mancini therefore decided to bring forward the planned day of rest for the players who will make the trip to the Far East.

Sabri Lamouchi and Lampros Choutos left Riscone di Brunico on Thursday evening, while Francesco Coco, Javier Francisco Farinos and Alvaro Recoba returned to Milan on Friday morning. Goalkeeper Francesco Toldo left the summer retreat yesterday afternoon. Daniele Adani and Giorgos Karagounis (in training at Angelo Moratti Sports Centre in Appiano Gentile this morning along with Choutos and Andy van der Meyde) were already in Milan.

    #########

That means that these players won't be available for tonite's game against the Shanghai team:

    Toldo
    Adani
    Farinos
    Lamouchi
    Coco
    Recoba

    =====================

    So, my line up (4-4-2):

    ---------------------- toldo -------------------

    dellafiore -- cordoba --- materazzi -- fav/pasq

    stankovic ---- veron ---- cambiasso --- emre/pasq

    ------------- martins ------ cruz --------------

And this midfield (incase we play diamond):

    --- veron ---- cambiasso ---- emre ----
    ---------------- stankovic ----------------

Finally, emre might get to play ...

I just wonder how many players we have avaliable for this game. It shouldn´t be a lot, but we have also reinforced the team with more youngsters (God damnit, we use more youngsters now than ever! ).

    My lineup nonetheless:

    Fontana

    Favalli - Burdisso - Materazzi - Pasquale

    Stankovic - Veron - C. Zanetti - Emre

    Martins - Cruz

    Then we have avaliable:

    Alex Cordaz
    Daniel Semenzato
    Gonzalo Sorondo
    Esteban Cambiasso
    Simone Fautario
    Matteo Momentè
    Nicola Ventola

I expect Stankovic, Burdisso, Pasquale, and Veron to play the entire game.

Yes, it is certainly positive to see that Mancini is integrating our promising youngsters into the first team!

My concern at the moment: Edgar Davids... Is he ill? Or?

Ah yeah, Cordoba. Thought he went to Japan, but nope.

So more players avaliable then. Goodie.

And this is the official lineup:

    Fontana

    Cordoba - Burdisso - Materazzi - Pasquale

    Stankovic - Veron - Cambiasso - Emre

    Martins - Cruz

Bench: Cordaz, Dellafiore, Favalli, Giani, Sorondo, Costanzo, C.Zanetti, Zicu, Ventola, Fautario, Bindi, Visconti, Meggiorini

Very weird that some of the players called up for the Japan trip is on the bench.

4-4-2 it is without real wingers and no right back.

To win something with Inter would be five times more satisfying than winning something with Juventus.
