Argentina have a good team and the only other good team could be Brazil, but seeing that Kaka and Ronaldinho have asked for "vacation" it shows how important the competition has become

I dont respect players who prefer their clubs over country.
Copa America value has gone down significantly, ever since they decided to have an event every two years. In 2001, they decided to have it every 3 years, to get the spark back into it, but still nothing happened. Now I think they have made it 4 years. The next edition of this will be played in 2011.

This will be a good tournament to watch during off-season. I hope Branca and Oriali are watching it too, and pick up some good young S.American talents.

If Brazil puts out a B team, then I'm guessing Adriano has a shot to play? In the last Copa America he was the best player in the tournament.

I hope none of our boys gets called up. And I respect players who put club above country 100%. Club before country in my book.

I disagree man. A player feels like he has to fight for his homeland more than a club that pays him, because he feels like he's actually fighting for his nationality as would you.

You don't me man. I would drop the homeland in a heartbeat and get the out of there as fast as possible. But I would never abandon Inter.

    It's definetly a mixed thing..

club over country, country over club..

the problem is that the clubs have to pay for what happens on country level. there should be a way that clubs get something from country games, then things would be easier.

I mean, this is like you working for a company, the company paying you good and your "country" taking you away for whatever to do and not giving anything back to your employer. It doesn't really work, does it?

I always believe they should hold the Copa America in the same year the Europeans hold Euro tournaments. Perhaps then all the club teams will start their seasons on the same level.

The way it currently is, eventually evens it out but it aint perfect. For example we will have an disadvantage if all our Argies get called up. But then again next season after the Euros our Argies will be in a better physical condition.

All I can say is at least the south americans don't hold it in the middle of the dam European season like those idiots who organize the african nations cup.

As Mehdi said it’s a mixed bag. However I would be fine (at least try to be ) with our players leaving for these kind of tournaments if we don’t have to pay for their wages, or alternatively receive compensation if they get injured and so forth. If not, then they better serve their employees….

True say, I think the only time club have a say in the matter is when the player gets injured.

Anyway those who think it wasnt fair of players choosing club over country, its their own decisions for example what Kaka said was brave when he said whats the point when he wont be able to play to his full potential.

When your country actually means something in the world, you prefer playing for it than any club. But when your country is a multicultured, full of immigrants place, with no history and no disticnt culture, why would a person prefer it over money?

That's why Italians prefer playing for their country for example. They have pride for Italia

Oh really? Players for England for example do play for the NT with such pride. All of them do so… now find me another country as multicultural and will so many immigrants as you put as England. It’s an individual thing and one can not generalise the way you just did.

Totally agree. It's personal choice. Some people prefer country over club others don't. It has nothing to do with multiculturalism or not.

Check how the French think about the matter in their own country

Seriously, you cannot expect people from big footballing nations to want to play for their wallet instead of their home. Just the Brazilians, but if you look at most Brazilians, and Brazil's history, you'll understand that as well...

And England was definetly not part of what I said before, as it's a country that has pride and quite some history in football or simply has history.
