Moratti's Flying Circus On the Road Again Part. 47

I haven't been that active sharing my opinions of the past three months, so here's my nickel...

At last our coach situation has been confirmed and Mancio replaced Zaccheroni, who turned out to be nothing but disappointment. He wasn't given that good chance in the first place, signed during the season after Cuper's strong influence (I still think we should've kept Don Hector), but giving another season to Zac would've been a waste.

I really don't think Mancio is a rainmaker, in fact I'm not sure he was the best possible choice, but at least he has potential and I'm sure we'll be playing entertaining football (so at least we get something, even if we don't win). It's just that only recently I've been bothered by Mancini's effect on our transfers.

The transfers right... I don't know what Moratti has been eating or has he only now found the paradise of the Bosman ruling. To me the only sensible transfers has been buying Burdisso. And in fact I would've signed Ferrari instead of him in a blink of an eye. He's a proven defender in Serie A and even an ex-nerazzurro.

I've always disliked Davids and furthermore hated Mihajlovic and actually getting Sinisa has made Mancio look bad in my eyes. Ever since I've started supporting Inter over 15 years ago, Mihajlovic is by far the most disgusting player we've signed. I truly hope he doesn't play a single minute. Every now and then we've bought players that I have disliked, but this summer has been extraordinary Miha, Davids and Veron... Well getting Veron the good thing is that it's a loan deal and we can get rid of him. It was just a sign of distrust towards Emre to get Veron.

In other buyings Cambiasso can turn out to be a good signing, though we are extremely well covered in that department. Favalli is a good player, whom we actually didn't need unless we are going to send Pasquale on loan or even worse selling Coco, without actually giving him a proper chance. Ze Maria is really a player we didn't need at all and I only feel sorry for him, because he's gonna waste next season on our bench, when instead he could've been ruling in Perugia's right flank. He's a great player, way too good to be a backup. Signing Choutos was just waste of time and I hope we send him somewhere ASAP.

All in all, I envy Roma, not because they had major names leaving the side, but because they signed fantastic players. I mean Ferrari, Perrotta and Mexes. Juve has signed great players too Emerson (though he turned out to be an a$$hole) and Mutu (if it's true, one great ex-nerazzurro more...). At the same time Moratti's Flying Circus has managed to provide another disappointment during the summer. I guess some things just never change.

We still have an enormous squad and we should diminsh it to 25 players to get a better team harmony and more chances for everyone to play. I guess Farinos, Lamouchi and Adani are the first to leave. I'm not gonna miss the midfielders, but Adani has turned out to be a real hero and his dedication to the team has been exceptional. I hate to see him leave, especially when he was the 3rd choice in my pecking order in our central defenders. I think he's better than Matrix, don't get me wrong Matrix is a true nerazzurro too, but for some reason I've started to think that he's not that good on the pitch.

The expectations for the next season are to get this squad to play like a true team, I really think we're not gonna win scudetto next spring. Let's give this team time, let's finally stop the circus and start to act like a real football team, at least after we've signed yet another Laziale (Cesar, another player we don't need). Then when the team is ready they will bring the glory to us, I just don't know anymore whether to shout "Forza Inter" or "Forza Lazio"...

Jake, nice post. And great to see you back. Yet I stumble over this sentence:

At last our coach situation has been confirmed and Mancio replaced Zaccheroni, who turned out to be nothing but disappointment.
Can you tell me WHY you think he was a dissapointment? Also the idea of having 25 players appeals to me ONLY if Carmi can make magic on the medical field.

    Inter: 13 Scudetti

Zac was a disappointment because he couldn't manage our squad properly. He was already in fight with Vieri. He also had stubborn obsessions about certain things like always playing Helveg...
What I respect Zac for is those two spectacular Derby d'Italia wins, other than that he was only mediocre. Those great long win streaks were against weaker clubs and his CL campaign was a nightmare.

But like I said, the moment to arrive during the season wasn't that good either.

No matter about Carmi's magic. No team needs a 30 man squad, with all world class players, there are youth players also. We should be able to manage with 25 players and with the help of Primavera players.

It could well be Vieri's mistake as well. What can I do if he says he wouldn't accept bench role. I do agree with other points you have made against Zach though

Agree. Whether's it's Carmi or ??, it doesn't mean that we have to have that big squad.

Well I just prefer to have this midfield in our fight for il Scudetto if we are in struggle:

    VDM - Cambiasso - C. Zanetti - Kily

    Rather than:

    YUP - YUP - YUP - YUP.

    YUP = Young unproven player.

    Inter: 13 Scudetti

That's where you are wrong, you think just like Moronatti. For team harmony's sake, I'd prefer a 22-23 man squad and youth players as addition. You can't always have the best players on field, even if you bought 50 players.

I think we should have at least 30 players if Carmi canīt deliver. If he can we only need 25.

I agree. One backup for each position, like Mourinho asked in Chelsea. Then if still missing players like during our famous injury crises, youth players can definitely do the job.

Okay, squad with something like 25 players at most plus Primavera-players then.

    Goalie: Toldo, Fontana, Cordaz
Central defence: Cannavaro, Cordoba, Materazzi, Burdisso
    Right back: J.Zanetti, Nossa (Dellafiore)
    Left back: Coco, Pasquale
    Defensive midfielder: C.Zanetti, Cambiasso, Farinos
    Central midfielder: Emre, Stankovic, (Cambiasso)
Right winger: Van der Meyde, (Stankovic)
    Left winger: Kily, (Emre, Stankovic)
Strikers: Adriano, Vieri, Martins, Recoba, Ventola/Cruz

    Code:
                   Toldo

    J.Zanetti Cordoba Cannavaro Coco

    VDM/Stan C.Zanetti Emre/Stan Kily

              Adriano Vieri/Martins
So this could have been the squad before all those signings excluded Cambiasso's one which was done before the last season even finished and Burdisso's which was a very good buy. Though Favalli was signed quite early, it was still useless.

As you can see there isn't exactly just two players for each position like I said earlier. That's cause we have players like Stankovic and Emre who can be placed to many positions.

There's backline well covered, and that rightback position. Maybe it was good that Nossa went on loan to gather more experience so Dellafiore could have been JZ's backup (Cordoba/Burdisso too).

In midfield, right wing would have been VDM's job and if he hadn't been able to do it Stan would have taken that place. Kily on the left, Emre and Stan as his backups. This could have lead some problems at the central if both creative CM's had been on the flanks (cause Kily and VDM out). But then Cambiasso could have taken that role next to Cristiano.

At the frontline, there's good to have enough players, like for the situation we have right now ahead of the CL qualifier.

Okay, that squad above isn't as competitive as our current one, what comes to player material, but that doesn't always tell the whole story. Like Jake said, team's harmony isn't maybe the best possible with so many players fighting for playing time. Now we have for example Veron and Davids who want to be starters (I doubt Mancio benches them) so we have our former protagonists Emre and Cristiano sitting on the bench.

This was kind of useless post cause this all is just the past cause we have now signing all kind of players. But with this I just wanted to point out that it could have worked well without the frenzy at the transfer market. At least in my opinion that squad above would have been very competitive in addition with the backups from Primavera team.

Burdisso was a good buy, and Cambiasso deal was done like I wrote. That squad I listed above is at the moment the squad I would have liked to see for the coming season.
