Everybody here is obviously a big fan of soccer so I was thinking we should start a thread where everybody can talk about their own soccer experiences. Talk about what clubs you currently play for or even past experiences. We can talk about our personal performances and even share training tips etc.

Well, being 13 and living in the U.S., I haven't had many chances with football. I play for a club team located in my town that travels across the state playing other teams that are a part of our league. I also play for my school. I play right back and have never had any major football-related injuries. I hope to play for a decent college and then move on to Europe.

I've played at Danube Galatz youngsters (http://dunareagalati.uv.ro/) for almost 3 seasons. I was playing as CB and I got my chance in this team because of my height 2.03 m. The coach that brought me to the squad had faith in my abilities all the time as I played 102 games for the team. The big squad didn't get promoted two years in a row and the staff changed a lot. The new coach brought 16 players from his old squad and basically a lot of players (including me) had no chance to promote since he only used his players. I resigned from the club and began thinking at my future which was far away from football after this experience.

Played for about 9 years in top division here in Montreal, even got a chance to play with a few ex and current Montreal Impact players (for those of you who do not know the Impact they are a USL team which is like the Serie B of the MLS).

Played for my highschool, played for a few company teams who sponsored me but I just can't keep up with all the trainings because my cardio is ****ed from drugs and alcohol lol

So my tip today is if you wanna be a pro, you gotta ditch your friends and social life and just concentrate on soccer.

Mike, aren't you just sixteen? It's not too late you know.

For me it's a different story. I never played for a football club because I was more into basketball, where I won some regional tournaments and was considered a talent. But I stopped playing when I was around fifteen because other shit happened and got in the way.

Anyway, I played football in the summers mostly with my friends who all played club football. One of them even got a contact offer from Chelsea but his parents didn't want to let him leave because they felt he was too young. Some got contracts at some of the biggest clubs in Sweden and play in the second divison at the moment. I was about sixteen and we used to play all summer and I eventually got really skilled with the ball. I had a decent dribble, could do most tricks, had decent vison and was in fairly good shape.

The best part of my game was my shot. Everytime I shot from distance it only missed my target with a half meter or hit the crossbar. At least one out of five shots(struck from outside of the box) got in one of the uppercorners of the net.

Not kidding, I had a better shot then all the the kids who were in clubs and later got signed to HIF and MalmöFF, and they used to tell me that constantly. They wanted to get me in on a trial but I had never played club football and didn't think I was good enough. I regret that now, because you never know what could of happened.

I don't have really any football experience, besides playing when i was a kid. I was always an ice hockey player and never felt confident enough to even try to play for the school team, I can barely juggle a ball, lol... I really would love to play in a casual league and train but being 16 in the US with a few more months before I get a license restricts my abilities to practice my ball skills or play in anything for amateurs. The high school only offers Varsity and JV, and I know I would be schooled at either level, unless I played as a defender (I'm 6'2" 175 pounds)... The only time I have ever felt good about my soccer knowledge was one time during gym class when we were playing for some reason i was goalkeeper and I was the only one who could stop one of the varsity soccer players... no one seemed to realize that you have to challenge a striker as a goaltender or deny him shots as a defender, so everyone would just continue to back up into the box to where he could easily score, until I finally took it upon myself to close down the angle and he ceased to be as much of a threat once I started doing that, and then others caught on and it wasn't so much of an upset.

In the US there aren't very many places I can play casually, most teams are usually very competitive and limited to youth players...usually the only teams outside of school here are big time travel teams...

Hockey on the other hand offers "mens' league" which has such a varying skill level that you can barely skate and still participate..

    Anyone have any tips?
