    Inter vs Udinese Match Report

    Hello Interfriends,

The start of the 2007-08 season does not start in the mode Inter would have liked. A scrappy 1-1 draw with Udinese at home means 2 points lost and leaves Inter fans with many questions after a not so great display by the team.

Stankovic scored early in the first half and the squad looked decent but after a comedy of errors and tired legs in the second, Inter did not seem to be up to form at this point of the season. It was an extension of the Roma game in the second half with very little movement, lost passes and bad touches.

Add to the mix a horrible blunder by Julio Cesar who handles the ball outside the area for a straight red card and an own goal by Cordoba in injury time and you have the story of this match.

Mancini made a few changes from the Supercup squad as Figo returns in the playmaker role with Stankovic playing wide on the right, leaving Chivu out for Maxwell on the left. The move works well as Inter control the midfield and Ibrahimovic is allowed to roam and pick up the ball where he wants.

It was infact Ibra who created the 1-0 goal as he takes a pass in the center of the pitch and with a control, a juggle and a volley pass finds an on-rushing Stankovic on the right wing. Stankovic enters the area and beats Chimenti at the near post. A great play, a great goal and Inter seem off and running.

After taking the lead however Inter seemed to take the foot off the gas and Udinese slowly came back in the match as Sivok and Inler found more of the ball and were able to feed Asamoah who troubled the Inter back line all day.

It was Asamoah who hit the crossbar with an effort and Quagliarella took a hard right footed shot that Julio Cesar did well to block that sounded the alarm. Inter needed to score another goal and they had the chance as Stankovic played in Cruz but he put his half volley over the bar from close range. It would have been the goal that would have settled the match.

Inter looked out of sorts in the second half. They all looked tired, very little movement and bad passes gave Udinese more of the ball. Asamoah used his speed to affect and when he chased a long ball down the center of the park Julio Cesar missed judged his run and the bounce leaving him no choice but to handle the ball outside the 18 yard box.

A straight red card for the keeper and Julio Cruz who had a dreadful afternoon came off for Toldo leaving Inter in 10 men. Udinese took the game to Inter but the nerazzuri still looked as though they could grind out the result. Mancini played his hand and put in Chivu for Dacourt and Suazo for Figo which helped to keep Udinese at bay for fear of a counter.

However it was not to be as Udinese win a corner deep into injury time and find the 1-1 goal. Quagliarella makes contact with the incoming cross and his glancing header hits Cordoba in the head and re-directs passed Toldo to tie the match. Cordoba did not know much about it as it him from close range leaving him helpless.

The 1-1 scoreline ends the match leaving Inter looking up the table as they lose two points to Juve and Milan both winners on this day with Roma still to play later on this evening. Work needs to be done and condition needs to be found.

Granted Inter's South American players have had a late start but its crucial that Inter start the season on the right foot as many more teams will be challenging for the title this time around!!

Inter are nowhere with form and condition right now, they better start getting their asses to work, or we'll be having a hard time catching up with others.
