San mean Saint in Italian. Its a bit like St James' Park at Newcastle. So San Siro is just some old holy Italian bloke
When you scored you went to celebrate with Mancini. What did you want to do to him?
"I shook him a bit; I could have hurt him... (smiles). Jokes aside, when you score a goal there are ten seconds in which you forget everything."

Our stadium has two names, Stadio Giuseppe Meazza and Stadio San Siro.

San Siro means Saint Syrus... there are a couple of them in Italian history. This was the original name since the stadium was inaugurated in 1925, and was based on a nearby church with the same name.

In 1980, after Giuseppe Meazza passed away, the stadium was renamed in his honour. (You DO know who Giuseppe Meazza is, right?!)

Interesting tidbit from Wikipedia: "Although Giuseppe Meazza played for both Internazionale and AC Milan, he enjoyed more success at Inter and is more favoured by the Inter faithful; as a result, Milan fans favour the term San Siro for the ground."

I didn't actually know that, and more often said "San Siro". I say we insist on calling it the official name, Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, and let the name San Siro fade away in honour of one of the greatest INTER players (and to spite the AC Milan fans)

Playing necromancer here, but since this doesn't really have anything to do with a new stadium, I didn't want to fill that thread with this.

Just wanted to point out that, with all this talk of building a new stadium or modernising the Meazza, my god, we tend to forget that have one of the most magnificent and history-filled stadiums in all of football:

    So breathtaking.

True but unfortunately it brings much less money than a mordern stadium that would be owned by us and being successfull in nowadays football is all about having money.

The San Siro is the San Siro - irreplaceable. One of the few true theatres of European football along with Old Trafford and the Bernabeu. Shame the stage doesn't measure up to the spectacle, which has gone from Francis Ford Coppola and Alfred Hitchcock to Michael Bay and some other generic Hollywood director I'm too fucked to name. AC Milan are losing a piece of their identity by moving out - which is fucking awesome.

H/w, it badly needs a renovation because of its condition. remember that photo of the torn out VIP seats? Ridiculous.

Exactly. One of my favourite stadiums is a great example of this.

Paint the red truss structure on the roof blue and replace all the seats with just shiny black ones would take years off the stadium.

Seriously, I think we should take the existing roof down and find an another solution. I know the roof structure is iconic but I think the stadium it self could be much more beautiful with a more elegant looking solution of some kind. With a blue touch of course.

The renovation that will be done to the Miami Dolphins stadium with a single piece floating roof is just wonderful in my mind and something I think would look great on San Siro as well.

    Before.

    After the renovation
