Real Madrid star Diarra has been linked with a move to the Nerazzurri for quite sometime now, and there were even reports that he could have joined during last month’s transfer window.
It has now been revealed that Inter sporting director Marco Branca is in advanced talks with Diarra’s agent over a summer transfer.
“From the beginning of talks with Branca I knew that Inter were the only club that really want to finalise a deal for Diarra,” he explained.
“In January the necessary conditions weren’t there for a transfer to take place, but now we are working on the more realistic aim of June.”
Diarra signed for Real Madrid from Lyon for €26m in 2006 and won the Spanish league title in his first season at the club.
Despite the fact that his contract at the Bernabeu runs out in 2011, the Mali midfielder is not too highly-rated by the club and boss Bernd Schuster.
According to the Gazzetta dello Sport they may be prepared to offer as low as €12m in order to sell the 26-year-old.
Inter are looking for a top-class centre midfielder to partner Esteban Cambiasso next season.
