    Iceland vs Italy-Friendly (Scores Inside!)

Good job Marcello!! He tried an alternative side, without many of the regular players:

    ITALIA (4-3-1-2)

    -------------------Buffon---------------------

    Oddo----Nesta----Materazzi----Zambrotta

    ---Gattuso-------Volpi---------Perrotta----

    ----------------------Fiore--------------------

    --------------Bazzani---Di Vaio--------------

Now this is certainly not a great squad, but it's not that bad! Nesta and Matrix are in the middle, Zambrotta is there, Perrotta was a starter at Euro 2004, so was Gattuso, Fiore is much better than Del Piero according to many, and Di Vaio-Bazzani is not bad at all.

Well, Italy lost this game 2-0

    17' (1T ) Gudjohnsen
    19' (1T ) Einarsson

    ISLANDA
    (3-5-2)

    1 B. Kristinsson
    19 K.O. Sigurdsson
    15 Bjarnason
    5 Hreidarsson
    7 Gudjonsson
    3 R. Kristinsson
    8 B. Gunnarson
    17 Einarsson
    14 I. Sigurdsson
    11 Gudjohnsen
    12 Helguson

    Great debut for mighty Lippi!

    Iceland "freezes" Lippi's Italy

REYKJAVIK, 18 August 2004 - Lippi's national team was supposed to be a construction site. Our impression is that the workers are still on holiday. Only this can explain the 2-0 defeat in Iceland, which marks in a terrible way the new coach's debut. A coach with a very hard task: revitalize a side that crashed out from Euro 2004 shattered in a thousand pieces, and aim to win the World Cup in 2006.

Obviously the big change of direction wasn't expected tonight, but no one predicted such a disaster. But Iceland turned into a nasty iceberg for the Titanic-Italy, whose players kept laughing and joking right until the start of the game, when their opponents seemed focused as they were going to play the game of their lives. And in a way it was that, since never before Iceland had the honour of playing one of the most prestigious teams in the world. Of course they wanted to play a good game, less obvious that they could do it with such ease in the first half. But that's what happened, thanks to an Italian side slow and clumsy, never capable of creating chances until Miccoli came in as a sub in the second half. The only consolation is that also Enzo Bearzot's Italian side lost his first game, 2-1, but the opponents were Germany, in that case.

Oh man, what a match! :cry2:

The team played horrible, it seemed we dinn“t have any plans. After seeing Lippi“s first match, i miss Trap already. But of course, this was just his first matc, a friendly and plenty of players were out of form, almost everyone but Miccoli who was just great!

Way to go Italia! First qualifying match is in few weeks against Norway, we better solve our problems or we“re gonna lose!

Worst player in the field award goes to Materazzi. This man simply cannot do anything good with his NT. He was so horrible that even Jimmy“s cat would be better. I certainly hope this was his last match in National Team level.

I know that Materazzi has played much better in Inter, but still i cannot imagine what would it be like if we sell Cannavaro now. That would leave us Cordoba, Materazzi, Burdisso and Mihajlovic. Sell Cannavaro and we“re screwed! (I doubt he“ll be sold tho)

We also have Gonzalo Sorondo, Tim. And I totally agree that selling Cannavaro is plain stupid.
    Juventus: 29 Scudetti

    Inter: 13 Scudetti

Hey bro, that wasn't me. That was my sanoo brother, Tommi.

Anyway, can Italy can any lower in recent times? Following their humiliating Euro 2004 performance, their Olympic team isn't making amends either. Apart from stellar performances from De Rossi & Gilardino, the rest of the team are pretty much going the way of Euro 2004 Italy. And now Lippi's Italy has gone the same route. Granted, it is a friendly, but starting off on the wrong foot doesn't exactly bode well. Let's hope for better days ahead.

Hmm, what did Jimmy say his cat's name was again?

    Ciao,
    Tim
