    Drama In Serie A!

There's a big scandal that is shaking Serie A for good: it's about players and clubs involved in bets about football results.

Today Mr Emidio Frascione (a FIGC official) asked for these sanctions:

Modena: relegation in C1 and a 6 points penalty.

Chievo: 9 points penalty, 6 months suspension for Del Neri.

    Pescare: 5,000 euros penalty.

Sampdoria: 6 points penalty, 5,000 euros penalty.

Siena: 6 points penalty, 10,000 euros penalty.

They also asked for several players from these teams to be suspended or cautioned. Nicola Ventola was found not guilty.

If the judge will rule in favour of this, Siena would go to Serie B and Perugia would be back in Serie A.

Wow, this just adds to the atmosphere surrounding the Italian Serie A. As if it wasn't already corrupt enough.

But the most important thing is that bit about Ventola.

The Italina league should really clean up its act...It has to remain at the top of the European leagues in quality and these scandals just hurt it,not to mention the financial difficulties and constant losing of big stars...Their has to be a major shakeup on the highest level and new, decent blood has to come in..

A huge fine should be the answer IMO. I truly find it ridiculous that the clubs were only fined a maximum of 10,000 Euros (Siena). I mean, come one. That is just peanuts for them! I'm sure their highest paid player commands a salary twice or perhaps thrice that size!

I disagree about any possible relegation. It will just point at the signs that Serie A is corrupted. Perugia will benefit a lot should Siena be relegated. I think the best option is to deduct their points for the upcoming season.

The sentence has been announced. No big deal really, in a nutshell:

5 points penalty for Modena, 37,000 euros penalty for Siena, 15,000 euros for Sampdoria, 5,000 for Pescara, 3,000 for Como.
