Preview: Players for knockout stage of 2008/09 UCL and transfers in the winter.

Mourinho has a week to go until the UEFA deadline for the Champions League knockout stage lists. "Walter Samuel will the be first player back on the list," he confirmed. "We have Crespo and Obinna out at the moment and we also have to assess Vieira's situation and see if he can recover soon or not. The group won't change much though. The Samuel choice is obvious: he has been a starter in the last three months and he's fundamental for us."

    My opinion:

    1. Goalkeeper: Cesar / Toldo / Orlandoni

    2. Right full-back: Maicon / Zanetti
    3. Central defender, right-foot: Cordoba / Burdisso
    4. Central defender, left-foot: Samuel / Chivu
    5. Left full-back: Maxwell

    6. Central midfielder: Cambiasso

    7. Box-to-box midfielder, right-foot: Vieira
    8. Box-to-box midfielder, left-foot: Muntari

    9. Playmaker behind strikers: Stankovic / Jimenez; Right winger or second striker: Quaresma

    10. Centre forward: Adriano / Crespo / Balotelli / Cruz

    11. Second striker or left winger: Ibrahimovic / Obinna

Youngsters listed for the requierment of the number of club-trained players:
    Bolzoni, Mei, Santon

First team players not in the UCL list:
    Figo(1972), Materazzi(1973), Mancini

Transfer or loan out in the winter:
    Dacourt(1974), Rivas

I think Samuel will replace Materazzi. Maybe Crespo and/or Obinna will replace one/two of Quaresma/Mancini/Cruz. I don't see any other possibilities. I don't think it's likely Vieira will be deemed unfit to be at the list.

Anyway, we can do a maximum of three changes. Samuel is one of them.
"It will be born here, at the "Orologio (Watch)" restaurant, meeting place of artists and it will be always a team of great talent. On this splendid night it's colours will be given: The black and the blue with a golden background of the stars. It will be called Internazionale, because we are brothers of the world."

Crespo might come in for Cruz. This is a real tough one to call. Cruz has been great for us and you have to love this guy's professionalism. But then Crespo is one of the greatest strikers ever and I am sure he will be back to his best very soon. I want to see Crespo win a CL as much as I want Zanetti to win it.

Nice to see that he rates Il Muro very highly, despite his little dip in form. I think we need Vieira as cover for our midfielders. I would perhaps put Crespo in there too. He is proven CL quality and scored agaisnt Man Utd twice the last time he played against them in this competition.

Cruz won't be left out, that's quite sure. The thing is, if Crespo replaces Mancini or Quaresma, probably the former. Figo won't be left out either, Mourinho trusts experience.

Sure, but our opinions won't mean shit, when Mourinho makes the squad list.

"I can't say that this game gave me any indications in particular, the positive notes are the new role of Mancini as a half-striker and Quaresma as a second striker.

According to the match of Atlanta v Inter, Zanetti is not midfielder but only right back as the substitute of Maicon, Figo is still better than Obinna, Crespo is a good substitute and the first choice of centre forward is Adriano. Now we need a box-to-box midfielder with right-foot, Hamsik! And Muntari should be qualified and healthy on Feb 24. Hamsik and Muntari are the only two box-to-box midfielders of our squad, no any others for substitute.

    My new opinion:

    Samual - Materazzi
    Hamsik - Jimenez
    Crespo - Cruz

    1. Goalkeeper: Cesar / Toldo / Orlandoni

    2. Right full-back: Maicon / Zanetti
    3. Central defender, right-foot: Cordoba / Burdisso
    4. Central defender, left-foot: Samuel / Chivu
    5. Left full-back: Maxwell

    6. Central midfielder: Cambiasso / Vieira

    7. Box-to-box midfielder, right-foot: Hamsik
    8. Box-to-box midfielder, left-foot: Muntari

    9. Right winger: Quaresma / Figo; Playmaker behind strikers: Stankovic

    10. Centre forward: Adriano / Crespo / Balotelli

    11. Left winger or second striker: Ibrahimovic / Mancini

Youngsters listed for the requierment of the number of club-trained players:

First team players not in the UCL list:
    Materazzi, Dacourt, Jimenez, Obinna

    Transfer or loan out:
    Rivas, Cruz

    Transfer or loan in:
    Hamsik

Mourinho: "On the coach back to Milan I'll start working to change the many negative things that happened in this match."
Zanetti: "we have to keep working like we always do."

Burdisso is right-foot. Materazzi is left-foot and too old.

    Walter Samuel,

I think it's more the need for a speedy man marker wh can replace Cordoba.

Chivu is Samuel's backup and not Materazzi.

What is with the obsession of preferred foot? And Hamsik won't arrive in January.

If Hamsik couldn't come here, then can try to let Jimenez to play box-to-box midfielder.

come on whale. it doesnt really matter which foot is preferred. if we play two central defenders one has to be fast (cordoba) adn other has to be strong (samuel, chivu, materazzi) burdisso is not fast and even if he is strong, he's still worse than materazzi.

I'm not obsessed by the prefer-foot.

Now let's see the fact directly: Who is the 4th central defender, Burdisso or Materazzi, or Rivas?
