    Greetings

Hello, I have been a Birmingham City fan for over 60 years – No, don’t stop reading, and allow me to explain. During the 1950’s when the transfer market between England and Italy was beginning, especially with the transfer of John Charles from Leeds United to Juventus, my father said to me and by brother. “Pick an Italian team to support and stick with them.” My dad and brother chose Juve [How sad is that?] where as I picked Inter. So you can imagine my delight when Birmingham City was drawn to play Inter Milan in the the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup.

Inter Team that played Birmingham at St Andrews 1956/ 57

    Ghezzi

    Fongaro Giacomi

    Bearzot Bervadin Nesti

    Vonlanthon Pandolfini Lorenzi Skoglund Campagnoli

Inter team that played Birmingham at St Andrews 1961:

    Buffon

    Picchi Gatti

    Bolchi Guareni Balleri

    Bicicili Lindskog Firmani Corso Morbello

    Welcome.

But I'm curious, so you're in your 60s and 70s now? Pardon my temporary impoliteness, it's just very surreal that someone of your age is visiting our forum.

Yes, The first match that can remember going to was in November 1954. The result was Birmingham City 9 v Liverpool 1 [Still Liverpool's record defeat]

The great Inter side of the mid 60’s that took consecutive European Cups were brilliant. Armando Picchi and Aristide Guarneri I had had the privilege to see play at St Andrews, and then on our old black and white television, the solidity of Giacinto Facchetti, the silky skills of Luis Suarez and the superb Sandro Mazzola, who was the son of Valentino Mazzola, I can remember my father telling me about Valentino playing for Torino and the terrible air-crash of 1949. My hairdresser Tino is an Inter fan, and just recently he was telling me too about what a fine player Valentino was. I can recall seeing Gerry Hitchens playing for Aston Villa – Birmingham City’s rivals - prior to his move to Italy and then on to Inter in 62 for a then staggering fee of £85.000 where he scored 17 goals in 39 appearances
