    5 May 2002 - Did you cry?

I was reading Patrick's interview and he mentioned that he cried on 5 May 2002, when we lost the scudetto losing 4-2 to Lazio on the last day of Serie A.

I cried too, I was sitting on the sofa following the game online and I was smiling so much at the start, and when Vieri scored.

When they scored the 4th tears just started flowing, it's been one of the biggest disappointments of my life. And Juve won it, and we didn't even finish 2nd. :cry2:

    What about you?

    I cried for hours, man.

I can remember when Ronaldo got subbed out and he was shown on the bench crying, that's when I really got in bad shape. I was stubborn for most of the game believing that this wasn't reality and we couldn't just throw away all our efforts from the season out like that.

I'll never forget Simeone shaking his head as if he didn't want to score versus us. That hurt alot, he actually wanted us to win really. The tears of Matrix, he was defending while crying!

One of the saddest days of my life, no doubt.

There was no feeling in this world (thus far) that compared with the complete tragedy that took place on 5th May 2002. Before the match, i was confident Inter would finally win their 14th scudetto - the game was in our favor as we had a full squad (as opposed to Lazio's weakened team), a travelling band of 40000 Interisti and the huge weight of expectant destiny on our shoulders. I was decked out in an Inter jersey, shorts, cap, scarf and i was waving my Inter flag out of my window. Somehow, i felt that today (May 5th) was going to be our day and i was feeling really great.

However, the turn of events after the hour mark saw me slump further and further into my seat. I didn't realise when the tears started flowing, but they just did. It made it worse to see the camera pan around the Olimpico on the faces of the Interisti - all teared and red-eyed. I think i really started crying then and there and i really couldn't continue with the match. I withdrew into my room and i just started crying.

That was a truly horrible moment for any football fan. Interisti are usually known for their resolve in dark times, but May 5th was the worst it could ever get. That's probably what makes Interisti a truly solid bunch of loyal fans - we have stuck around through all the dark times, and therefore, we have been through the worst with this beloved club.

    Ciao,

I certainly cried then. It was probably the most horrible moment as an interista for me. I bet most of us can't realize how much it takes to get so close to Lo Scudetto.

I still remember how happy I was... And I remember how Jukka Pakkanen reacted (he was the commentator of the game and a well known interista.) "And know Poborsky scores, all hope seems to be lost."

LOL Bianconeri, you should have been in Italy when Perugia beat Juve on the last day and gave the Scudetto to Lazio: millions of people (including me!) went out in the streets celebrating Juve's defeat. There were so many Inter flags, as if we won the Scudetto! Wonderful memories

Same here. I cried, but it was tears of angers rather than sadness.

Strangely for me, the first Derby loss of 03/04 was the worst. This came close though. The Euro-Derby loss came in on 3rd place..

I almost shed some tears, it just came more as a shock to me. I canīt say for sure but I would perhaps have cried if Iīd seen the match on TV. It was so close... I recall listening to some chilling music not to get too many nerves during the match. Then the next year I was like afraid something bad would happen on 5 May. I guess that day is printed in the minds of almost every Interista. And because of the passion and love for the club many tifosiīs feelings were manifested in tears.

I remember that day as if it was yesterday. I arrived home at about 15.10 and checked the RAI teletext (I didn't have a chance to watch the game live). 1-0, Di Biagio scored, I was just over the moon. Then, after a few minutes I entered the Polish Inter chat and listened to Inter.it live radio (or maybe not? ) . We were still in front, 2-1, what a start! The chat admin was even starting to prepare a 'scudetto decoration' on the site. And then... Poborsky again... the worst possible moment. 'These nerves are not for me'-I thought. I decided to miss the second half and read a book about Ronaldo. Then, after having a dinner, it was 16.55. A time of truth. A quick look at the teletext and... total shock. I felt so disappointed. I just went to my room and started crying. Nobody was able to console me.

A sad day for all Interisti

I was in the army then. We were guarding that weekend so I didnīt see the match. Actually I havenīt seen it ever. I would really like to torture myself with it. So if anyone here in Finland has that match, I would love to lend it.

I followed it with text-tv and after the event I couldnīt do anything. I just had incredible empty look in my eyes couple of ours. It was very strange feeling. And yes, there were some tears, too. Others looked me like I was some sort of freak. And I hated it, they just didnīt understand

I also remember very well that I strangely enough felt very proud to be Inter-fan that night when I finally went to my bed. I finally realized that it is something very special to be true Nerazurri..
