    Rules

Some general rules. I've done counting the first match and realized something so I'll lay it down here.

    1) Please just copy & paste whatever the thread starter make. Ie, don't change the order of the players. If the thread starter list it as JC, Maicon, Lucio, Samuel, Chivu; don't go and change it to JC, Chivu, Samuel, Lucio, Maicon. It'll make life much easier.

    2) You can also rate the coach, please do that.

    3) With regards to subs, I'll take the liberty of considering your rating or not. I don't want to set a time limit because even by playing 5 minutes, a sub can be decisive in a match.

    4) No discussions whatsoever with regards to ratings in that thread. Do it in the match thread. The ratings thread are strictly only for ratings.

Btw, it'll be something very simple, I'll just average out whatever everyone posted. In the Excel file, you won't know who vote what though. I'll just do it in the same order as the post order in the rating thread.

    Any other suggestions?

Can you keep a running average for each player throughout the season?

Indeed. I'm gonna put up an Excel image file ala Frisko's ratings thread.

    Tomorrow.

I'd like to add one thing.

If you guys are joking around and give exaggeration of votes like 1 for Benitez, I'll just not count your vote.

We're trying to do a serious thing here and we have no room for your hyperbole.

    Thank you.

I'd like to argue either for you to count those votes or for the establishment of a guide.

For me, a 1 should be awarded to the player or coach who definitively cost us the game, while to others, that rating would be a 4. It's true on the other end of the scale as well. Until the ratings are defined, they are meaningless when averaged together. I would be more in favor of a 1-2 horrible, 3-4 bad, 5-6 average, 7-8 good, 9 MOTM, 10 Diego Miltio Madrid performance, as opposed to a Gazetta style outline. It enables you to be more specific in your ratings.

We'll just use Gazzetta style outline. Giving a 1 to Benitez makes no sense at all.

What would you have given him had he start with 11 Primavera players then? 0.5? -3?

We need to use the most common way to rate things out and Gazzetta's is definitely the way to go.

The beginning part is quite a bit of hyperbole itself.

I just feel like that way everyone is rated 4-7 and there's really not a lot of room to differentiate between performance. The main goal of this (if I'm not mistaken) is to see how we all regard our players' performances. 1-10 on a daily basis is the most definitive way to do that.

EDIT: Also, I'm against the 12 hour waiting period. In my mind, the benefit from having the game fresh in my head outweighs the emotions I feel.

Reminder: I'm not gonna count your vote if you don't use the same order of players that the first poster use. Eg, if the thread starter list it as JC, Maicon, Lucio, Samuel, Chivu; don't go and change it to JC, Chivu, Samuel, Lucio, Maicon.

30 FIF Special Ones Comedic Post of the Year
Six months ago I had a talk with Dylan about a possible status thread idea that with time evolved into a form survey. Before I started searching for the proper method to implement the idea, I took a look at the forum’s ‘services’ and noticed that the rating system has been dropped possibly due to the lack of interest and Inter’s predicaments in recent years. If Handayo allows this, I'd like to propose and discuss two types of surveys that could be easier for the members to access and for the mods (or whomever is assigned) to track down. They will both rely on the forms in Google Drive which provide an easy automatic calculation of the votes. However, there is the matter of keeping the polls open to anyone with a link or restricting the participation to members with Google accounts, a thing that will force everyone to vote once. There’s also a third option that enables specials invitations to avoid trolling posts but since it's a drastic measure, I suggest everyone discuss it and we decide later.

The typical rating system will rely on the current one but instead of copying and pasting the starting eleven, subs, and manager, you will access FIF’s Poll Page where everything will be in order for you to simply pick a number from 1 to 10 and submit. The options available are with half a mark to give people more leeway with voting. The poll is functional on a smartphone as well. Special thanks Wobblz for his great banner.

    The page’s layout:

    The poll’s link:

    Click Me!

Since it's a beta form, it's open for everyone to test.

Before I go into the second type, I'd like to say that it remains a mere idea that requires more discussions since it'll be time consuming and demands attention on certain details we usually ignore during the heat of a match. Again, I don't expect this to kick off immediately but at least we'll have the summer to determine if it's worth a while or not.

This Form or Progress ratings system is a bit longer and requires somewhat of a dedication through some of the mods and a specific number of serious members who are willing to participate. Unlike the normal ratings sheet, this one will dive deeper into a player’s performance by analyzing the typically ignored and unconventional aspects of the game. Keep in mind that there could be over 50 questions spreading between the tactical and physiological aspects. This will help us not only judge our squad each week, but also determine a player’s progress on a specific level. For instance, WhoScored keeps a record of a goalkeeper’s saves and errors leading to goal but they ignore the side observations like the intensity of a keeper’s vocal communication or his area command. The same goes with a midfielder’s commitment in falling back during a counter attack or closing down or helping out his teammates when they’re marked. The same with Palacio's tendency to stretch the opponent's defense.. etc.

Another example would be the discussion and evaluation of Icardi’s growth between his time under Mazzarri and Mancini that we had months ago. If you recall, I posted a table of stats in Mauro’s thread that bore vague interpretations and inconclusive results. This time around, I’d like to provide a better summation based on the desired strengths he could develop but I need some of your help in identifying the traits we should monitor in each position.

What I’d like of you guys is to share with me the questions and observations you find yourselves asking after every game on a failure here or there. What do you look at in a player’s performance and the manager's decisions? If it's possible I'd like to rely on the practical knowledge of guys like N4L and anyone with coaching experience.

On the goalkeeper’s analysis, I’ve came up with 6 questions that observe his: confidence, positioning during Freekicks and Corner Kicks, vocal and area commands, along with the method of ball distribution. The questions will vary between scale ratings, multiple choice, and checkboxes. A thing that could be changed based on your suggestions.

A sample of the survey’s main page:

Talk about it and if there's a better system let's discuss the alternatives before the season starts.

Once again, apologies for the long delay especially to Dylan.

    I really like it.
I'm not entirely clear on what confidence is in a GK - some top class GKs don't rush off their line or participate in build-up play as often as Neuer, or tend to go for the punch instead the catch, but I wouldn't consider them less confident, just different.

I think the second part of your proposal is a bit pedantic. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the heart of what you're trying to accomplish is to find a way to organize and collect qualitative/intangible observations from the game. I feel qualitatively describing quantitative features like (eg) Handanovic's pass length is unnecessary.

The problem in all this is that kind of data can leave a lot of room for interpretation. For example, lets say you're asking for the direction Kovacic dribbled in. If he dribbled in a certain way towards his own box the whole game, that's what the poll would show. However, there could be several unstated reasons behind that which would make the data totally incomplete. For example, Kovacic could have been manmarked. He could have just been passive. Perhaps he was playing with less intensity because he wasnt completely matchfit. Or it could be a tactical instruction from Mancini, etc. So without an explanation the information you've collected would be obsolete.

Instead, another idea would be to have match reviews for each player. Design a web page for each game where you can select which player you want to review from a dropdown menu, and a textbox below to add your comments. And perhaps at the top of the page to have a list of the players who featured and the coach, all their names linked to different pages which show all the submitted reviews for each player or coach. Just a thought. There's also the question of demand for all this.

First part of your proposal would be great though.

I personally dont think the majority of Fif are as knowledgeable about the aspects of football that you would be analysing in the second part as you would like to believe and the ratings of the second part would be heavily dependent on the outcome of the match, myself included of course

    Like the first part though

Sorry, I'm loving too much the Inter 7 - 0 Juve to comment about anything else .

No, but really the first part is great, the second I think it's a good idea, but it's kinda tricky.
