I really don’t think we can play all three.

Skriniar - Godin/De Vrij - D’Ambrosio is the most likely imo. I don’t really want to see De Vrij or Godin anywhere but the central position. Bastoni if he’s ready could allow us to play Bastoni - Godin/DeVrij - Skriniar.

I don't think that's the problem tbh, conte played back three with chiellini, barzagli and bonnuci. Skriniar has more pace than all of them combined

Skriniar is fine as an outside CB on either side. The problem is De vrij and more so Godin being used as an outside CB. I don’t want to see them drawn out 1 on 1 against a winger.

I don’t think De Vrij is slower than Barzagli.

We will just lower all our lines to compensate for speed lost and rely on the speed and stamina of Candreva and Perisic for quick counter.

I don’t know what you guys are talking about, Barzagli in his prime was fast as fuck.

We don’t necessarily have to compare to the prime Barzagli or when he was in Palermo.

Barzagli still played in a back 3 post 34, we just have to show a slow player can survive in a back 3. Assuming Conte is flexible where he places his defenders, speed is not the number 1 detrimental problem here.

Of course if you think Barzagli was still fast at 36, that’s another story.

I don't recall Barzagli ever being particularly fast, that was not his best quality. And generally speaking, I feel speed is a bit less important in a 3-man line, quite simply because there is one more central defender, so you have to cover less space.

Positioning seems to be more important and that's something where Barzagli stood out, which is also the reason why he was still a valid defender well into his 30ies.

All of our defenders, by the way, seem to me pretty much perfect for the 3-main line. It will be a matter of getting used to it.
My username has nothing to do with the player of liverpool fc, it is a reference to an Italian novel.

Is it one more central defender or one less defender overall? Debatable, and depends on the W/FB deployment and workrate.

Either way, positioning is always more important than speed, especially when it comes to defenders.

    -------------Lukaku------Lautaro---------- (Dzeko, Politano)

    -------------Barella------NEWPLAYER--------- (9golan as supersub)
Asamoah----------Brozovic----------Lazaro (Perisic to sub wings / Gags to sub Brozo)
    -------Skriniar-----Godin----Dumbo-------- (De Vrij)
    ---------------------Handa-------------------

Maybe this is the best we can ask for.... unfortunately...
Being 9golan/De Vrij/Dzeko and Perisic almost starters.

Funny to know we have more gkeepers than decent midfielders.

Why do you say that? Other than Lazaro (which admittedly I don't know much about) I don't see the need to sell any of those players. Barella and Dybala and even Lukaku work in different formations and tactics. If we do actually sell/swap Icardi and manage to sell Perisic too I doubt it will hurt us too much with ffp. I think even if Conte doesn't bring us instant success, a team like that is a good start for future/continual success. Obviously Asamoah/Kolarov would be replaced as will Godin in a few years. Probably Nainggolan too. But overall I think having that team in the picture would be a great start, and best team on paper we've had since the treble.

If we get Mazzarri after Conte, then it would be a natural progression in tactical evolvement, so fingers crossed we won’t have to sell the players bought by Conte.

I think Alex lineup is more like what Conte is aiming for. It has been reported it will either be Lukaku or Dybala, not both. Conte wants Lukaku while Marotta prefers Dybala. I agree with Bluenine next coach will have issues with our squad. It will be a squad without wingers, without attacking midfielders and with a right wingback too attacking for a back 4. We both hope Conte is successful at Inter else we could need an overhaul with the next coach.

    Dybala as Hazard or Pedro.

Lukaku or Dzeko as Diego Costa.

Lukaku and Dybala have different role.

I think Conte aim one of Lautaro - Lukaku or Dybala - Dzeko.

I prefer Dybala - Dzeko than Lautaro - Lukaku.

Conte uses the middle CB almost as a midfielder at times...dribble out of the back and pass out of the back. Skriniar loved to make charging runs out of the back last season so it is not too crazy to think he will play there. Watch David Luiz at Chelsea.
