No problem with Januzaj choosing his country of birth.

That has already happened. Australia lost Josip Simunic and Joey Didulica to Croatia. Tim Cahill played for Samoa as a 16 year old...

Meh.

new world continents are a much much different scenario. also simunic and didulica are ethnically croatian.

You replied to crzd, who mentioned the US (similar to Aus), with this.

sure you lot will start bitching as soon as other nations start leeching of talents of your nationality

I just mentioned how it has happened and that I'm fine with what they did.

It's obviously something we just disagree on. I'll try and refrain from making further comments on it in the future since we'll just go around in circles.

its not national football though, people bend the rules however the fuck they want them how it fits them . World cup should be teams recruited by nations cup it loses meaning.

sure you lot will start bitching as soon as other nations start leeching of talents of your nationality, but you will be first class hypocrites and of course you will bend the rules and make it seem that its different from me. whatever.

While things like Diego Costa who already played for Brazil is utter bullshit and him wanting to play at the WC or get paid by Spain to play for them. A player who wants to play for a country he feels a connection in I don't really have an issue for. Like if your adopted, you lived in that country your whole life or your wife and kids are from that country.

Too many players are using NT soccer for better club deals which kind of sucks. Also when countries bend their naturalization rules for certain players that they wouldn't do for any other citizen.

at the end of the day the WC is the big dance. Champions league is the prom but the WC is your wedding. It sucks never making it to prom but not having a wedding is a even bigger deal. Players get like ladies. O Shit I'm 27 I need to get on that. Let me play for X random country that will play me.

Equatorial Guinea in Africa that randomly calls us South American players, it has a bunch of random shitty Brazilian,Spanish, Colombian, Ecuadorian players on that team. Look at their team its all foreign players haha. They still suck

Naturalised players controversy
For more details on this topic, see List of naturalised Equatoguinean international football players.
In recent years, Equatorial Guinea has courted controversy by recruiting foreign players and giving them citizenship despite having little or no ties to the country. In 2009, South African journalist and FIFA archivist Mark Gleeson wrote that it was undermining the integrity of African football.[9]

In late 2005 and at the request of Ruslán Obiang Nsue, a son of President Teodoro Obiang, Brazilian coach Antônio Dumas recruited several Brazilian players to represent the Equatorial Guinea but CAF and FIFA turned a blind eye, despite complaints from other nations.

In 2012, having lost the first leg of a 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualification round 4-0 to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea recruited nine Brazilian players to help overturn the deficit for the second leg. Democratic Republic of the Congo head coach Claude Le Roy complained that that the Equatorial Guinea were acting like the United Nations of football.

Before the arrival of new coach Andoni Goikoetxea to Malabo, in March 2013, the Equatoguinean board made the squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Cape Verde and called nine Brazilian players again.[10] In May 2013, they joined Colombian-born Ecuadorian-based Jimmy Bermúdez, to who was going to pay him € 3,000 for each match he plays.[11]

Meh, now that I think back, I remember Simunic only jumped ship because Fwanky Farina wouldn't pick him, anyway.

Happy days...

Idk about Belgium, the one time I saw them against Croatia they looked great.

But teams that usually have a lot of immigrants (diff ethnicity or their family less than 2-3 full generations there) (France), have very little motivation and don't work together as a unit, unless those immigrants tend to all come from one place. I'm not discriminating against immigrants, either Im one myself, it's just an observation.

That used to be the problem with Belgium as well. But when Advocaat was assigned as coach, things all went better and the NT became an union, and now with Wilmots as coach it became even better.

They only look good against weak teams. Don't get me wrong, I go to Belgium A LOT because I have my very best friend there in Leuven and I love the country and culture and atmosphere, but I am just trying to be realistic about this team to prevent huge ass disappointment. And in my opinion it is so horribly overrated that it itches my ass cheeks. I was actually convinced of this by Belgians. One of them is Brussels Boy on this forum, though he never comes here anymore. Unfortunate, because he'd be good at discussing this shit.

Netherlands will most likely be out before the end of the group stages and I've totally given up on them because all the players that were meant to be the key players for this WC are out for 6 months with broken bones, but there's a slight chance Belgium will be as well, though I'm expecting them to fly out in the round of 16 instead (just like Spain). No experience in this whatsoever, they haven't got a clue what's coming in terms of atmosphere and pressure and they aren't a very solid team, it doesn't work like an oiled machine on the field at all. It appears like that against shit teams because against those you can basically play tiki taka for free, since weak teams only hang in front of the goal, but as soon as a seriously skilled team is the opponent, a team with good attackers who will strike back at any given chance as well, they will usually fail... they often already do against weaker teams who do have the balls to attack back. It went horribly wrong against Colombia and Japan, draws against Wales and Ivory Coast, and those are not even what I call 'seriously skilled' teams yet... Only Colombia has good attackers.

If the FIFA ranking was any good and realistic and they wouldn't have had that short burst to the top 10 (which is already over anyway) or if they remained around spot ~30 (which would be way too low though), nobody would even have noticed them. The huge media attention they are getting now is only going to bite them in the ass as well, it puts pressure on them, could make them overconfident and underestimating the opponent thus losing. Many fans already got delusional and believe they are already world champions (something they blamed and hated us for doing in 2010... how ironic and hypocrite but who cares) and will thus be in more pain than they should have been after they suddenly get kicked out kinda early. I don't know why there's so much fuss about that new kid choosing Belgium either, I mean what kind of overrated shit is that. Proven nothing yet, he's freaking 19. It must be seen if he can improve on how good he is now or if he won't even be able to keep up his current form and fall back into oblivion instead. Pretty much the case with all these individual talents except for a few who are truly great players like Kompany, Mignolet/Courtois and Witsel.

Tbh, they would've been WAY better off as the underdog... I am hoping that I am wrong about all this though and they will get far, because this team is the only one I feel some kind of connection and sympathy with seeing how Belgium pretty much became my second country and I know everything about it. I spend nearly 25% of every year there... since we will fail it's the only other team I can root for, besides Juve infested Italy which I could only root for for the sake of it being Italy.

I guess we will have to wait and see. By the way, there's a good alternative for the FIFA ranking, one that is actually realistic and uses fair and realistic measurement techniques. Unsurprisingly, it's list is therefore TOTALLY different from FIFA one: http://www.rankfootball.com/. With Belgium currently sitting at spot 20...

But everything will be alright.

I honestly dk what to make of this Belgium team. Like Martijn said they look great against smaller teams, but struggle against big ones.

W Cup is all about mentality, Idk if they have that cohesion, football culture, experience and mentality to do great. Individually speaking they're pretty good.

Complete wild card. Can be anywhere from crashing out in group stages to reaching final.

They are the underdogs though. I dont think anyone is seriously expecting them to beat the Spain's or Brazil's of the world.

If he doesn't make the WC squad then it would be a big loss to Belgium. Yesterday he was unreal, dribbling past 2-3 players for fun. He alone should have got 2-3 penalties but denied everytime.

I didn't include the gif where he dribbled past few players before was hacked down (clear penalty but wasn't given). He created (IIRC) 6 chances in the game.

I think he's def going. There is a reason announcement that he'd play for Belgium was made right before the provisional squad for World Cup list is sent out in a few days. Some backdoor "negotiating".

I think that means Nainggolan is out.

Shame he has to beat Hazard and Mertens for the first team. There's Mirallas too, even Chadli (event ho he is better than Chadli).

Or they can play 4-2-3-1 with Hazard, Mertens, Mirallas/Januzaj behind striker (which would be very attacking) or use Januzaj as impact sub as he can play as LW, RW or AM.

Btw in a year or 2 he will be first choice player IMO.
