The Fiorentina owners are multibillionaires actually and they could afford him and a championship squad if they wanted to. They just don't care. And it's not like Firenze cannot host a great Scudetto challenging team. It's a matter of desire mostly. They just don't want to be losing 10-15m a year, which is a stupid sum for the all the glory they could get back compared to their wallet size.

Why would Mourinho go to Fiorentina or Lazio? I think it would take more than losses of 10-15m a year to upgrade EL-level teams to title challengers.

Why would Mourinho go to Fiorentina or Lazio? I think it would take more than losses of 10-15m a year to upgrade EL-level teams to title challengers.

Because:
a) It's a great challenge to make them relevant and Mourinho used to thrive on that.
b) They have great fanbases that deserve more than the crap they receive.
c) There aren't that many other similar options out there where he doesn't himself become irrelevant. Imagine if he goes to a 'challenge' in Turkey, Belgium, Russia or even back to Portugal. Most people will forget he exists until that eventual European run once every 3-4 seasons.

If Marcelo Bielsa can go to fucking Leeds and Ramon Diaz can go to fucking nobodies at Oxford, Mourinho should be able to go to a club such as Lazio or Fiorentina. Or Roma, or Napoli. Even at a German club it'd be fine, but I just can't picture him over there. In France the only clubs that could afford him are PSG and Monaco, then there's Marseille and Lyon who can afford him but cannot give him more than 8 players lol.

It's obvious that the fun of football has been sucked out of him around 5 years ago, he needs to get it back. He can afford to give a discount to do what he loves.

Mourinho reached certain level of ego where is no going back.

Only out of the top club at the moment that could interest him is Arsenal. Reasons are obvious, he could compete against city rival Chelsea, he could fight United and he could continue to mock Wenger. Perfect destination for him, he could go against everybody.

I can't see Mourinho managing a team like Lazio or Fiorentina. When he does leave United, his next step will be international management. You can just see he's sick and tired of club football if not football itself.

He'll be back in a couple of years, nice to see that he needs us more than we need him.

His arrogant pose remains hilarious, but it only really works when he's actually winning. Now it's cringe and makes him look like he needs professional help.

He always dreamt of managing MU and it's sad that he can't succeed now that he's finally there. And I have longed for his return for years but with this behavior and the ugly way he lets MU play I wouldn't even want that anymore tbh... Oh Mou, you never should have left us.

If Spalletti fails this season, I'd welcome Mourinho back. Maybe it's a great fit once more, maybe it's just a decent one. It's not like we'll fail miserably, at worst we'll not win major trophies but we'll be relevant in Italy and Europe. If he doesn't bring as much joy, at least his methods will pave a way for Diego Simeone to come back to his second home if he ever wishes to leave Atleti.

Not surprised that he's not doing well or is not being liked at Manchester United. It's like expecting two substances that combust when meeting eachother to merge happily into something beautiful.

Come back home Jose. The ones thinking he’s lost the plot are delusional and haven’t watched the games. He’s got CB’s that aren’t even good enough to play in the Championship and Lukaku missing open goals. Plus he’s not been given the players he wanted by the board

And i dont think our board would be able to give him the players he wants either. If he comes back he needs to know our financial limitations

It's not a matter of getting who he wants. He didn't really get who he wanted at Inter either apart from Quaresma iirc.
The problem is that Man Utd is the richest club in the world and they promised him that he'll have a free reign and he doesn't even get to ask for specific characteristics he wants in players...

Manure has too many shit players to let Mourinho succeed. He wasn't even bad in his Chelsea stint. If he has anyway close to City's squad, he'll be winning league titles every season.

Even though he's a legend, we can't bring him back. He need to take time off.

I wouldn't take him back, honestly.

I've never found him a master tactician (his teams' successes were always founded on a few basic football concepts and the almost shamanic connection he was able to establish with his players), and now that he's kind of lost his mojo, he's simply become the caricature of his former, winning self. His teams play a boring, uninspiring, and often (especially against good opponents) passive football, and whenever things don't go his way, he starts bitching in the post-game interviews.

My opinion is that he should seriously look inside himself and start considering what he really wants to do in the next ten years or so. If he wants to continue coaching clubs, he should definitely take a break (one, maybe two seasons) and use that time to bring himself up-to-date about football tactics, because frankly it looks like he's stuck in the past.

As for his present job, it doesn't take a crystal ball to realise that his time there is running out... He will definitely not be there at the start of next season, but I wouldn't even rule out the fact that he might (be forced to) quit midway through this season. It was an ill-suited match from the start if you ask me, but it was his long-time dream that of filling SAF's boots, so he couldn't turn down the opportunity... The only thing I (partially) agree on with him is that the club makes a shit-ton of money every year and should therefore spend more in order to improve the roster, especially if you want to keep pace with a powerhouse like City and a Liverpool that finally seem on the rise again. I wrote "partially" because, even though Woodward is a cunt and all, a good manager should also focus on developping the players at his disposal, which frankly doesn't seem to be one of Mourinho's main concerns at the moment. Some players might not be United material, granted, but please let's not act as if he was coaching Chievo Verona.

That being said, I realise nostalgia, combined with the constant disappointments that marked our post-triplete era, may induce people to overlook all the reasons against his return. However, I think getting him back would be like Williams re-signing Mansell and Prost in hopes of winning another WCC. It simply doesn't work like this. People change, times change, and you can't expect a thing, however wonderful it was, to work again simply because it did ten years ago.
