Okay, at what point does a coach's past successes become irrelevant though? If that coach you're alluding to was a player everyone would be in consensus that he was past it and would no longer be the player he once was. Of course a coach isn't a player, but if one is to ignore a downward trend in coaching do we then consider Capello, Lippi, or even Trapattoni?

That's a very weak argument. Mourinho won the epl in 2015 and Conte in 2017. Does that two year gap put Mourinho's success in the "past" but Conte's win is "recent"? So I guess 2016 is your threshold for recent vs past success? Not to forget that Mourinho won the EL in 2017 - or does an EL trophy not count as success? It's ridiculous to put Mourinho in the same category as the geriatric patients mentioned at the end there.

There are valid reasons to prefer Conte over Mourinho. But to classify Mourinho as a coach who's past it is simply false.

EL trophy does not count as success when you are Chelsea

The level of team that should be competing for that is Udinese not a team with a roster worth close to half a billion.

Man U winning it isn’t a big win either

It’s like a mid table level team competition and now they are letting all the big boys who crash out of champions in

I think that opposing Conte at Inter because of his past is taken way too much into account, but I understand why many people feel this way.

It happens in football and I'm very glad that this time for a change it's us who are signing one of their icons and not the other way around. To an Interista, it hurts so much more to see Cordoba or Cambiasso coaching Juve than Conte coaching Inter. What matters to me right now is that the fucker succeeds here and doesn't storm out in mid season.

From a long term planning perspective, Juve are still two steps ahead of Inter. They are changing to a new brand of football, making their game more entertaining and modern at the same time. And for the first time, Sarri will have a squad expected to win titles - I fear what he will be able to create over the next 2-3 years. This is why I wish it was Inter getting Sarri and Juve getting Conte.

But purely from a short term point of view, we may have a window of opportunity here. Sarri might take time to adjust and make his new squad learn to play Sarriball. Conte's style may not need that much time to implement. If Inter give him a few quality players that he needs, this season could be our chance to win the scudetto before Sarri develops something beautiful and perhaps a new winning cycle at Juve.

I can't be the only person who wouldn't mind Sarri being at Juventus at all, right? He's nuts, and he'd be dealing with Juve media. He already had an iffy time of it at Chelsea this year and had an episode or two this season; I can only imagine adding the same level of media alongside the expectations Juve is gonna have that Chelsea didn't this past season. It's a high-risk/high-reward ploy, in any case, IMO.

Question. How often have pure wingers outside of Caudrado played as wingbacks under Conte? Plus, I'm sure Cuadrado had at least played their in the past during his time at Fiorentina

It seems I got my prediction in the Calcio Mercato thread bang on. Had a couple players on the wrong side of the pitch but I'll take it.

Either way it seems like a solid enough team. If Perisic gets his shit together or we sign another left winger then this is a big improvement over the last season.

I would hate this. There has to be a different formation or different players coming in, because this doesn't look promising to me.

Too offensive, will never happen. More like Dumbo instead of Chiesa etc..
