Revealed: Serie A's highest earners

Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo is Serie A’s runaway highest earner on €31m a season, with Matthijs de Ligt and Romelu Lukaku already second and third.

An investigation by Gazzetta dello Sport discovered Serie A was spending €1.36bn on gross salaries – the most in the League’s history.

That is chiefly down to Ronaldo’s extravagant income of almost €600,000 a week and Juve’s wage bill of €294m – more than double that of nearest challengers Inter (€139m).

Over half of the top 20 play for Juve, with De Ligt coming in second on €8m plus €4m in bonuses, just two months after his arrival from Ajax.

In third is Lukaku, whom Inter are paying €7.5m a season plus €1.5m in bonuses.

Further down, Kalidou Koulibaly is Napoli’s highest earner on €6m a season, as are Gianluigi Donnarumma for Milan (€6m) and Edin Dzeko for Roma (€5m + €1m).

As for the best of the rest, Franck Ribery earns €4m at Fiorentina – €2.3m more than Federico Chiesa.

Radja Nainggolan is on €3m back at Cagliari, Lazio trio Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Ciro Immobile and Lucas Leiva all pocket €2.5m and Mario Balotelli is taking €1.5m plus €3m in bonuses from Brescia.

Finally, despite their historic qualification for the Champions League, Atalanta have only the 13th-highest wage bill in Serie A.

man Lukaku earns alot - hope he earns it on the pitch. I don't know how Serie A can continue to compete with the wages the EPL teams hand out to these players.

The bottom side's wage bills are much more competitive than they once were. I remember a time when the bottom sides total wage bill was just over 10m

I can't believe Milan are paying €115 for such a shit squad.

Rabiot and Ramsey making a combined €14m is a good one though  Fucking Juve. Shit is gonna hit the fan one day with them doling out absurd salaries like that.

So in the end Roma had to offer a payrise to Dzeko to convince him to stay. It's also extraordinary of Napoli to maintain their status of the second best team of the league while keeping their wage bill low.

They don't give away player rights either which makes the task even harder

A rather hefty one.

I think one of the reasons they kept him was because there was no replacement. Striker market was weak.

Chill bro, the new tax law starts soon.

If any Italians here can speculate, and without going into a black hole of political discussion, how likely is it that a new government scraps this law and we're left with our dicks in our hands?

I haven't been following Italian news much, but it seems likely from a Mediterranean's point of view.

It would be unlawful to retroactively cancel the tax cuts, after contracts have been put in place, so even if they do a 180 degree turn on the matter we'd be safe.

I haven't been following Italian news much, but it seems likely from a Mediterranean's point of view.

first off, as Wobblz mentioned, even if the law was scrapped, the effects would not be retroactive, they would be applied to new contracts.

as for the speculating. when the law was approved, pd (the new party in the new government: they basically replaced "Lega") was critical of it, but specifically they were critical of it for not being "specific" enough: they called it a "fiscal dumping", as it would allow non-qualified foreign workers to take advantage of it, at the expense of italians (on the assumption that some people from abroad would accept any working condition).

so i wouldn't rule out that it's discussed, but pd didn't seem to have any objection to it with regard to qualified workers or professional athletes.

all in all, i guess it's not likely that the part of interest for us is discussed again, at least not in the near future.

besides, pd and m5s (the other big party leading the new government) have already discussed what is going to be scrapped: for example they have explicitly said that the "flat tax" (previously requested by "Lega") is not part of the new program, but they haven't mentioned the new tax rules applied to people coming to italy for work.

It's kind of hilarious... He refused all the previous suitors, because he didn't want to leave, now he's going to the only team that can still buy him? Lol. And that would mean change continent and say farewell to top level football.

He probably changed his mind after being left out of Juve CL list.

Al-Rayyan end Mandzukic talks
By Football Italia staff

Mario Mandzukic has officially terminated negotiations with Qatari club Al-Rayyan and could remain at Juventus until January.

There had already been strong reports the forward was cold on the idea of moving to Qatar, even for a possible €7m per season salary.

Now Al-Rayyan have released a statement confirming they have “suspended negotiations with Mario Mandzukic.”

The Croatian is still determined to make his mark in a major league and is therefore likely to wait until January for a new opportunity.

Manchester United have been mentioned as the main candidates for his signature.

The situation could be sped up if he terminated his contract with Juventus by mutual consent.

However, seeing as the Bianconeri were requesting a €10m transfer fee, that seems improbable.

The 33-year-old has been left off the Champions League squad and hasn’t been called up for Serie A duty in several weeks either.

His current deal with Juventus runs to June 2021 and was only extended in April, when Max Allegri was still the Coach.
