Skriniar would have been sold this year if Inter recieved the appropriate valuation and will probably sell if they do. So this argument is neither here nor there.

This whole issue is one of squad depth. If it's for bringing in a talent than great but it doesn't appear that way.

This is incredibly confusing from a competitive perspective. Kumbulla rumours died off a while ago, so our backup CBs are going to be pretty bad unless something unexpected happens...but its pretty known we have no money to spend.

I wonder how much of this is freeing his wages just so we can afford to pay Vidal.

From a sporting perspective, this is good news.

But I feel a little disappointed personally. Godin is a great player, person, and a champion. I want him to be playing for something important. Maybe a free transfer to PSG or Chelsea would also suit. But this is what it is.

I don't understand the concern about our defensive options here.
D'Ambrosio/Skriniar/De Vrij/Bastoni/Kolarov/(Darmian) are good enough. We get rid of Ranocchia and Godin, and there are two incoming ones. Both the incoming ones are better on the ball than the outgoing ones. And neither of them are expensive or on long term contracts. So these are clearly transfers for the coming season.

We probably will go for a young defender next year.

Godin is not going to reduce his salary that much. He will still make like 3x what Rano makes.

I was in favour of selling skriniar based on this season's performance, but it seems the club has faith that he can improve and increase his value which is currently at its lowest. Salary remains an issue apparently, so Godin making 5mil to he a backup is a waste of his talents and our resources.

Like said, we've been selling Skriniar for some time. No adequate offer has arrived. Apparently we now decided to pull the plug with Godin and send him away. Need to generate money / free room in salary budget some way.

Basically Vidal comes in and replaces Godin's salary.

Question: Does this make Skriniar the starting RCB so he can cover for Hakimi who lacks defensive prowess? Or Dambro because he can hold the ball and pass forward better? I'm guessing a rotation til one overtakes the over.

This mercato has been so unpredictable that any guess would be very risky. Even the reliable sources have no idea about our mercato. They report something only when the deal is at an advanced stage.

This is nothing else than financial move by Inter. We want to clean his salary out of the way. Pretty positive Conte isn't too happy.

I think Kumbulla would only replace Skriniar. I think their thought process it is if they can get 60 million for Skriniar, they can buy Kumbulla for 20-25, and pocket the 30-35 million.

I highly doubt they're going to spend money on Kumbulla with Skriniar here.

Sure as hell better not mean Dumbo starts. I know lately a lot if people seem to love him and of course I do appreciate that he gives it his all but he’s not good enough to be a starter. No fucking chance

Yeah, that's what I've thought about too. We need more quality to the defence but is Kumbulla the best choice here? They would eat each others minutes and both being young, they are like not going anywhere anytime soon. One scenario would be to get Kumbulla and groom him into the team and the club and then sell Skriniar next summer for big plusvalenza. Honestly I wouldn't like selling Skriniar but can see this kind of scenario.

Just releasing Godin only to save his salary cost is a bit letdown for me. We hurt ourselves quality-wise with this move. So if Vidal is the "replacement" then, we add to the midfield but subtract from the defence.
