Calhanoglu is a strange move by Inter. I know we are kinda replacing Eriksen to give Inzaghi his "Alberto", but still. Gross wages of €9m pa, its an expensive transfer for an inconsistent, injury prone player with little to no resale value at those wages.

Specially coz of our financial constraints, it is even more important to focus on the right target(s), players like Gosens or Raspadori or Locatelli. The total cost pa for these players will not be that much higher than Calhanoglu.

I understand this that we need to focus on right players. But Raspadori would be a bench player for us. While Gosens would be excellent signing, he'd cost over 30m€. And we don't have that kind of money for a transfer fee. Also neither of these players would have replaced Eriksen.

Calhanoglu decision had to be made right now. Management decided to take it and I respect them for going for it and not just waiting for something to drop from the sky later in the market which quite possibly wouldn't have happened at all.

Well, Locatelli for Italy played in the exact position that Eriksen played for Inter last season. Gosens would be an excellent signing, one which we desperately need if we lose Hakimi on the other wing. Calhanoglu is too inconsistent to be a great signing for me.

Cost wise, after the loan and with the potential sale of Hakimi, I don't think cash flows are the main problem. Inter want to reduce running costs (mainly wages) and reduce losses as a business (by earning some plusvalenza). So the main thing to look at to compare Calhanoglu vs say Locatelli is their total annual costs.

If Locatelli costs 30m fee = 6m annual amortisation costs. Locatelli currently earns €1.5m gross. Assuming we double his wages, his total cost will be €9m pa. That gives a perspective on how expensive the "free" transfer of Calhanoglu really is at €9.25m pa gross. And that is before the agent fee, which is usually high in case of free transfers.

That said, I guess I can trust Marotta on this. He usually gets these things right. My biggest worry about signing someone like Calhanoglu at such high 9.25m wages is that it might mean we plan to sell another star player after Hakimi to achieve our 15-20% cost reduction target.

Free signing vs players that would cost 1-2-5-10-20-50 just to buy from another club on top of the salary that the free signing would get.

We will clear many wages this summer, Kolarov already gone, Radja, Joao Failio Mario, maybe Vidal will leave and Inzaghi opts for Vecino and Gags as cover. If Hakan does say 5g and 10 assists in the first season Id consider it huge success, but the player is super frustrating. At Milan he had the pressure to create everything, here with us he is surrounded by beasts. I have hope that Inzaghi will get him to play better next to Brozovic and Barella.

The only thing about this that's scary a bit is how will other players react to the rumors about his salary. Other than that this is alright move for Inter imo particularly having in mind ACM's yet another failure to keep or sell a starter.

You just put the numbers to fetch the total cost.
First of all, we haven't sold Hakimi yet. If we want to stand for those 70-80m we want, ther will be long negatiations.
Locatelli will cost more than 30m. I would say 40m plus bonuses.
3m gross salary. Locatelli would laugh with his ass. He knows very well, he is the most wanted midfielder in Serie A. I just don't think he will sign for less than 3m net.

Fuck their reaction. The biggest team in this world was decreasing their players salary because of Corona while our players even got their bonus.

Fabrizio Romano - Hakan Çalhanoğlu has just landed in Milano in order to complete his move as new Inter player. Medicals tomorrow, contract until June 2024 and done deal. Hakan leaves AC Milan as a free agent to join Inter.

I have a very hard time imagining that Locatelli can be had for €30M, honestly.

If the English clubs come calling, I expect €40m to even €50 tbh. When players do well in tournaments, their value rises significantly for better or worse.

Also I wonder if Inzaghi has plans for a 3-5-1-1 with Hakan arriving. As far as I’m aware, he’s much more an attacking mid than a CM.

As others pointed out, Locatelli is not that good comparison. The asking price is 40m€. And he's close to Juve. His salary wouldn't be 3m€ gross, which is about 1.5m€ net. I'd say it's more close to 3m€ net which is then close to 6m€ gross.

So the annual cost of Locatelli would be 8m€ amortization + 6m€ gross salary => 14m€. Even if the salary number would be a bit lower, not much, maybe million less (2.5m€ net salary), it'd be still 13m€.

And as said, that would need cash. And EVEN IF we could have all that, at this point of the summer, nothing of that is certain. We don't have the Hakimi money. Juve is after Locatelli, hard. Foreign clubs will be after him after the Euros. The competition is fierce. But Calhanoglu decision had to be made now. Not in July, not in August. But now, because we couldn't bank on him waiting for us as a free agent.

Timing is super important in the calciomercato. It plays a huge part in many deals. We were thrown into a very difficult situation when our starting player, possibly a key player for next season, got basically taken away from us. We had to act quick.

I agree Calhanoglu's salary is too high, it won't be easy negotiating salaries, negotiating salary cuts :)lol:) when we give such salary to a new player. But I also think we are covered in the Eriksen front and that way had the "freedom" to do this deal. It's a small reduction in salary costs compared to Eriksen.
